The upper and lower ball bearings are both permanently lubricated.

Is this pump capable of handling the output of a 12-unit apartment building while the sewer line is disconnected for construction, or do I need something bigger?

I used it to calculate the capacity of a single-family basement. I don't think it'll be able to support a 12-unit apartment complex. You can, however, contact the manufacturer's customer service department, which was extremely helpful in answering my questions. I hope this is of assistance!

How big should the pump basin be to allow the float switch to rise freely?

a minimum of 2 feet by 2 feet - Perhaps a smaller basin would suffice.

Pump is excellent, but packaging is lacking

The pump is working perfectly and has been for several weeks. Because there was almost no protection provided, I gave the packaging one star. My power cord was abraided and squished between the heavy pump and whatever else was being shipped when it arrived. Before I could use the pump, I had to fix the power cord. I was going to return it, but the cord was relatively simple to repair, and I needed to get the pump up and running.

It should be packaged better before being sent

I would have liked to use this because I've used liberty pumps before and trust them. However, the packaging was so poor that the wire was broken when it arrived, rendering it useless. I wish they had sent a more appropriate package. However, I exchanged it for a different version LE51A, which came in better packaging and worked flawlessly.

It's pumped the same way it's always been

The pump performs as expected, and it arrived promptly. I'm not sure how, but it was less expensive than the local shops, despite the fact that it was a large shipping pump. It works perfectly and accomplishes the task for which it was purchased. If you don't need it right away, schedule a replacement and save money.
