I immediately got rid of the smell. Even so, the tank has not exactly remained clean with it installed. After initial installation, a lot of loose rust came out, and the tank had to be cleaned out with a wand. During the week that it was in the tank, some black metallic debris accumulated in it. The magnesium rod does not show this problem, so it is not certain what caused it. As much as I dislike the smell of sulfur, I would rather deal with the metal in the water.
The water in our house smelled so bad that my son suggested changing the existing magnesium anode to aluminum. That was a good one! It was apparent there had been a change right away. Since aluminum corrodes more quickly than magnesium, I can afford to replace it every year for the same price.
This rod easily replaced an anode rod that had started to corrode in our camper. I've never seen an aluminum zinc rod before, but this one seems to last for a long time too. It also stopped the bad smell of water in the The factory should be required to provide this in all campers.
The rods I got were intended to replace the traditional rod that came with it. I was getting the rotten egg smell even after replacing the old filter, but after flushing the tank and installing this filter, I am not getting that smell any more.
They stopped bad water smell in my rv water heater, the rods were the same size as those that originally came with my water heater, I also had to get teflon thread tape to use them.
As a result of a process of elimination & As a result of reading the materials, we found out the hot water heater rod needed to be changed. Installing it was easy and it did away with the awful smell of hot water every time we used it.
It might be just our water quality, but this product worked as advertised for a short time.
There is no sign of any wear or tear It has only been a couple weeks and there is.
