Questions & Answers

Are accessories for shop vacs from other brands compatible with craftsman shop vacs?

Hello Amazon customers,br>br>We regret that we are unable to guarantee the Shop- We never tested Vac brand accessories, so they should fit. How strong is the suction power (water lift rating)?

Hello Butch,br>br>This vacuum has a 47-inch water lift. When there is no air movement, this is the amount of pressure created by the vacuum. If you're looking for airflow, it's measured in cubic feet per minute (CFM), and this vacuum has a suction power of 177 CFM. br>br>If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Service department at 1-888-888-888-888. 800- 325- Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., dial 1184. 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We'll be happy to help you at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. br>br>Sincerely, br>Customer Support for Craftsman Wet/Dry Vac

I want to sand some paint and dry wall with this attached to an orbital sander, and I'm not sure how well it handles fine dust. ?

I haven't used this model for drywall sanding (yet), but it's more powerful than my previous model, which worked fine; it also depends on the quality of your sander's dust collector. The vent has a filter that should catch the majority of the dust and prevent it from blowing out the vent port.

Please tell me where I can get a wet sleeve to vacuum up the water. If you don't use a sleeve, will the vacuum be ruined?

Hello Cheryl Carlo,br>br>The CMXZVBE38773 wet foam filter is available on Amazon. For wet pickups, you'll need to remove the paper filter and replace it with this one; for small amounts of liquid pickup, you can keep the original paper filter. That filter must be removed for large amounts and should not damage the vacuum. Always keep an eye on the vacuum cleaner while it's in use. br>br>If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact our Customer Service department at 1-888-888-888-888. 800- 325- Between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., dial 1184. 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. We'll be happy to help you at 1:00 p.m. Central Time. br>br>Sincerely, br>Customer Support for Craftsman Wet/Dry Vac

The best suction of any vacuum I looked into, with a 20 gallon canister
5/5

Not a toy, but a real shop vacuum. Before purchasing a product, anyone should evaluate his or her own requirements, applications, and budget. A product that is ideal for one person may not be ideal for another. Before making a purchase decision, I read a lot of product reviews, and I read a lot of one and five star reviews from people who I don't believe know what they're talking about, so reviews aren't much help if you can't assess the reviewer. So here are my two cents. br>br> I'm a serious home hobbyist wood and metal worker who used to work in the industry. I had a Craftsman heavy duty 20 gallon shop vac that had just died after 40 years of excellent service, and when I went shopping for a replacement, I was astounded at how inexpensive everything is now, from all vendors: Instead of metal, plastic is used, which is less expensive and less durable. Unfortunately, most local stores do not stock 20 gallon shop vacs, preferring to focus on lower-cost, smaller items. As a replacement, I purchased a Rigid 14 gallon heavy-duty vac and was disappointed right away. The vacuum was weak, and the 14-gallon canister was far too small. Because the canister is so short, the filter quickly becomes engulfed in debris and begins to lose suction even before the canister is half full. br>br>As a result, I started looking for information on the internet. Many of the major vacuum manufacturers don't even offer a 20 gallon model, but Craftsman offered two or more. I compared all of the Craftsman models' specifications and decided to go with the CRAFTSMAN CMXEVBE17596, which has significantly more suction (measured in CFM) than the others. I've had a lot of time with it now, and it has the same vacuum strength as my dead vac (which is critical for me), as well as matching it in other performance areas. Here's what was most important to me at the end of the day: Wet/dry capability, a 20-gallon canister, a 20-foot power cord (anything less is a joke if you really want to use this as a shop vac), and high suction (190 CFM according to Craftsman, and HP or peak HP is a meaningless measurement because air movement is the only thing that matters). The only remaining concern is the unit's long-term viability. In every other way, I'm content. br>br>In my opinion, the optional dust bag that lines the canister is useless. It simply performs the same function as the canister: collects whatever your vacuum sucks up, but you have to pay for each time you use one and discard the other. This is a waste of money.

Except for the noxious odor, I give it a five-star rating
4/5

I was relieved and pleased that the black plastic parts of my Craftsman shop vacuum did not stink like so many of today's plastics do when it arrived today. Black plastic (from China) frequently has a strong toxic odor that does not go away when opened. I liked how simple it was to assemble the vacuum and how it was designed to hold the hose and other accessories. It's simple to maneuver and won't fall over. br>br>However, I just used the vacuum for about ten minutes, and the heat from the engine has created a very toxic stench, to the point where I'm feeling nauseous or headachey right now. It was filling the room with a foul odor, I could tell. As a result, it appears that the warmth of the engine is causing some sort of intense off-roading. gassing. I'm not sure what to do, and I may have to return the device. I'll put it in the sun for an afternoon to see if it helps, but I really wish whatever material was used to make certain black plastic parts over the last few years could be changed because a lot of products these days have this horrible odor that makes me physically sick.

There was a lot less noise than I had anticipated
5/5

This was purchased to aid in the dust collection for a table saw/router table rolling bench that I am constructing. I was going to put a cyclone dust separator in front of it and make a sound baffle, but after using it, I decided that wasn't necessary. This is why: br>br> br>1) This unit is noticeably quieter than my previous DeWalt 2. a shop vac with a capacity of 5 gallons It's not silent, but I can talk over it, and the noise has a low higher frequency content, making it suitable for use while sawing or routing. Continuous use could be a problem, but it's not an issue in my case. br>br>2) Inside the vacuum, there are collection bags. There are two advantages to this. The $5 per bag is well worth it because it contains finer dust and is easier to dispose of. If I find that the bags are filling up too quickly, I'll add a front-end cyclone, but it's still great to have the bags catch the fine dust that passes through the cyclone. br>br>To clean up the shop, this vacuum has plenty of suction power. The tool storage onboard is adequate. It is easy to roll and does not tip over. Overall, I'm very happy with the results.

This ain't it if you're looking for the best shop vacuum
3/5

Ok, this is my third Craftsman Max hp shop vac, and I'm not sure if it's because of the bags, which are a pain in the A**, or what, but it doesn't have the suction of the previous two! As a powerful shop vac, this thing is useless. My previous one could suck wet sand and dig or bore down into the ground, as I had done previously to remove a spa. I have all the accessories, reducers, hoses, ends, silencers, etc. I've owned many and Craftsman was king. Very disappointing, household dusting is fine but man's work in the shop is not. Skip this one, my girlfriend despises it and says it's worthless. Is it possible that I received a dud? I'm not sure, but this isn't going to cut it.

In terms of Shop Vacs, it's the best I've ever used
5/5

Five out of five stars. I wish they could buy the replacement filters at the same time as the main item.

Craftsman is not a good choice
3/5

To nickle and dime you, Craftsman no longer includes the plastic muffer with this model, but they did previously. As a result, they were able to extort $14 from me. I had refused to buy Crafrsman in the past, but the Woodshop management insisted that I do so this time. Now I've managed to persuade them to change their minds. The old craftsman was only around for a year.

Solid
5/5

6 Gallon 16 Gallon 5HP:
Pro: Suction is excellent, and it does not flip when the hose is pulled. Hose has a really good one. Attachment to the tank is made with a hand clip. When the wet tank is full, the motor is shut off by a floater. Storage options for vac tools are actually functional.
Con: There was no foam filter included in the package (only a regular filter and one disposable bag). br>Conclusion: "No flipping" comes at a cost: it's a little wide. br> I'm glad I decided against repairing my old ShopVac and instead purchased this one. It's a lot better than my old one (16 Gal 6HP Shop VaC) was when I first got it.
