Despite the great saw, there's a problem
3/5

There are many features that make this saw competitive with others in its class. A saw that has a very high degree of accuracy was my goal I do not have a degree With bevelled cross cuts of up to 12", you can make a great looking cut. It surprised me to discover about 12 holes on the map when I inspected it A gentle check of the deflection of the miter will reveal how much play is present. It can be surprising that this play was not caused by the slide poles but rather by a malfunctioning turntable mechanism. Under the unit, I found an elongated part which links the front lock lever controls to the miter detent engagement, and I also found the finger that engages the detent. Plastic is used in the construction of this elongated part. A small allen screw is located at the fulcrum of the part, and this is where most of the lateral play originates. The screw was tightened enough to reduce the play to about 1/3 of its original size To an extent. In reality, the resultant play of the saw at its full slide extension for a 12" cut is over 1/16" (you It is unacceptable for me to see so much play. There is no doubt that over time, this plastic part will wear and become less rigid. The fact that someone would create an otherwise superb saw like this and then use a plastic part in adjusting the miter angle surprised me. On Youtube, I find reviews where it is clearly not a strong point of this saw for miter accuracy. We were able to return the saw easily to Amazon. It's likely I'll purchase another saw from Amazon, probably a Makita that will cost a lot more. Makita has assured me that there are no plastic parts in the critical miter mechanism.

The saw might be good for framing the walls
3/5

Due to the fact that it might make a good, cheaper carpenter's saw, I decided to award it two stars rather than just one. In case you just need it to cut the end off of a 2x12 and get it within a 1/16" of where you aimed, then it's fine. But, unfortunately, I'm a woodworker and it's not the best tool for that task. It took me an hour and a half to set up the 90 degree bevel and the 0o degree mitre after I bought it, and it was still not accurate at all. You cannot fine-tune in any way. It's much better to have a 22deg detent on the mitre than a 0deg detent, so all those detents are unnecessary. As a result of the saw flexing a lot when using the slide, the blade leaves marks, the angle of the cut isn't smooth, and there is a lot of noise from the wheels. It is a joke to use the laser guide. The blade guard gets in the way of the adjusters when they are near the work piece, so you cannot adjust it while trimming the work piece. As long as the blade guard is between the laser and the working component, it cannot be adjusted in the fully upright position. As the top assembly flexes on the way down, if you set the laser to be accurate in the up position (where you can most easily adjust your work piece) then it will move an eighth of an inch to one side or another when you get down close to It would be nice to be able to say something nice I suppose it is a deal to get a 10" sliding bevel mitre saw for $229, but what good is it if you can't use it to cut things?.

The saw is a great buy for the price
5/5

I am now on my 4th miter saw from Hitachi/Metabo. As with all these beasts, it's heavy, but that's what makes it precise. YOU NEED TO READ THE MANUAL if you want to use this machine! For the saw to be perfect square, there are a dozen adjustments to make, and you can't figure it out by guesswork. Although it cuts like a fiend, it is still quite painful. In my opinion, the 10 inch saw is superior to the 12 inch due to its ability to swing right to 60 degrees. This will save you a lot of energy and time if you do the trim or millwork yourself. (Three years ago) I bought an $800 Bosch compound saw. But for the money, this one could take on it. There is nothing to disappoint you.

The saw I got was of excellent quality and for a great price
5/5

A crazy good deal (50% off) landed me this saw last Xmas. Having said that, I am not a licensed contractor trust me, everything in the box appears to be ready to go. The straight cuts on all sides are checked with a square. My favorite feature is the preset degrees and being able to lock in at gradual levels. A great feature of this saw is being able to control the bevel angle directly from the front. It seems to be the major advantage of the saw, that it enables you to change all angles right from the swing arm, without needing to reach around You can make 90% of your settings adjustments at the handle of the swing arm. Dust collection is manageable with a bag my shop vac is rigged up well enough to facilitate dust collection. A bag is just a way to stop things from flying around. Do you think the bag needs to be larger? There was no real adjustment I made other than to loosen the fence and slide it forward as much as possible (maybe a centimeter will do? My problem was that I was unable to get through rough sawn 4x4s at any angle other than 90 degrees. This helped me solve There is nothing complex about the depth limiter, yet it is extremely effective. It was really easy to knock out a bunch of lap joints, at any angle, after setting it up once. The best I can do is play around with my materials, a lot of rough work (decking, basic shelving, some carpentry, speed projects basically, Having a rigged DeWalt stand for this gave me a lot more portability with the saw and I find myself using it more often now. Thanks so much! I'm very happy with this saw. The price I got it for ($200) makes me feel like I robbed a.

A downgrade to 3 stars is warranted
3/5

Now that I've had it for 9 months, I've started to use it more often. Originally I gave it 5 stars, but now I am giving it 3 stars instead. My shop room in my apartment was greatly enhanced by it. As soon as I mounted the Diablo 60T blade, I exceeded my target We have cut over 200 pieces with it so far, ranging from small molding strips to 2x4s and 4x4s, at corners and angles of all kinds. I noticed that accuracy was not one of its strongest points after using it for about two months. There was no point in cutting (and there still isn't). It will cut three sides square on a fresh piece of wood, but the fourth side will not be squared. There's no way I can cut a square piece of wood with It has been checked again and again, the sliders have been cleaned, the laser has been aligned, and the bolts have been re-checked I have tried edging the blade, using a carpenter's square and a digital angle finder to check the miter stops and bevel markings, and I'm still at a loss as to why it won't cut. As I am about to unbolt it from the table, I am going to look underneath it. Please let me know if anybody out there has any ideas or information. I would like to wish you all a happy and prosperous 2019. I appreciate it.
