Product Description

2-1/2 horsepower (maximum motor HP), 12.7 lb-ft. With the 0 Amp electronic variable speed motor, even the toughest hardwoods will be rout in style
The motor has a variable speed with full feedback control to maintain a constant speed under load between 8,000 and 24,000. The motor has a soft start that reduces start-up torque for better control.
With the micro-fine depth adjustment ring, you can adjust the depth in 1/64-inch increments, and vertically to keep the switch or cordset in the same place
Easily adjust depth and change the base of the flanges without tools thanks to the tool-free steel motor cam lock

Questions & Answers

In order to get a simple router table, I want to buy one. The DW618 is my first woodworking machine, but I am not sure what it is compatible with. What is the compatibility of the RA1181 with Bosch?

In fact, yes. After the top is secured on the table, the legs must be secured. It is a good idea to connect the router to the switch box before installing the plate. Multiple holes in the plate allow it to accept routers from a variety of manufacturers. For you to attach it, you might need one or two extra screws of the appropriate length, if I remember correctly. Table works beautifully, but height adjustment is awkward (you must reach under the table, push the router up while rotating the dial in one hand. To simplify my work, I clamp the table to a bench to raise it to a comfortable height, and then push it up and rotate it from below. There is no doubt that the wheel has been rotated a full 180 degrees (forget if it is 1/8" or not, I'm It's my understanding that some router/table combinations can be fine-adjusted from above (the setting is incorporated into the router, I believe). As a result, this system has only one downside. My current favorite tool/tool combination is the Dewalt/Bosch, as I have used it for some time now with excellent results on long, When moving the piece smoothly against the fence, it is crucial to secure the table properly and move it slowly. Keep in mind that your route should be as simple as possible.

Is there a collet for router bits with a 1/2 inch shank included with the tool? There should not be a need to ask this question! ?

The collets came in both 1/2 and 1/4 sizes in my unit. This router is used both on a table and free hand and does an outstanding job. It's important not to buy an edge guide from Dewalt since they label them differently. It won't fit as it is designed for the palm router, so you should not buy a 618 edge guide.

If the motor was unable to be mounted on a base, what would be its diameter?

3 is the number. This is 5. It is technically 3 mm on my micrometer. Defining the motor as a 497" The base was removed, the unit was turned upside down, and the measurement was made.

120 volts is the only voltage it works on

Don't be foolish! There are only a few pieces of this rig! This machine is a good value for the money in my opinion as an expert
3/5

It turns out I was wrong about that. A straight 1" bit was being used to rabbet 3/8" deep on a sheet of poplar plywood full length 8' edge and I had just gotten halfway through my second rabbet when I smelled burning plastic and then had the motor emit smoke. As a router, it can only do a few things. Makita will be the next stop for me.

Dead on arrival
5/5

My impression of Dewalt is that their bearings are bad out of the box. I just ordered this and it was bad out of the box. During that time, it was so hot that you couldn't touch the collet to remove the bit, since it ran for 30 seconds. Returned a replacement and it behaved the same way. Should the next replacement turn out to be bad, I will make a purchase somewhere else. Dewalt should offer this kind of product warranty if it is the kind of product I am looking for.

A great deal for a robust two and a half HP router
5/5

There are a few points I have to make about some criticisms that I have seen of I want to start by saying that my 8 yr old DW618 has taken a beating and keeps on ticking. In conclusion, I will not argue with what others have stated, but I'm extremely impressed with how durable this router is. It is for this primary reason that I chose to purchase a DW618 as my second router. In addition, I read a review claiming that this tool was not suitable for use with router tables. As previously stated, I was using my old router at the time. I have used that tool heavily for the past two years and 90% of the time I have mounted it.

This product is easy to use, easy to setup, and features Being a new user of routers, 90% of what I am doing is just rounding over bits to break the edge of Although I have been using Skil brand routers, I saw this one and decided that since I have been getting mostly Dewalt tools, I'd give it a whirl, and I have not regretted it one bit
3/5

I am on this site today to buy a plunge base for it since it has a soft start to prevent jerking in your hands. It has a fixed base and a plunge base that can be interchanged, too (I am looking at a plunge base). My bit changes are easy and rapid, and I have had zero difficulty adjusting the depth of the cut to get the perfect roundover without failing. I just use a scrap piece of wood from my cutoffs to dial it in, and I am As far as security and convenience go, the locking mechanism is secure and tight, but not difficult to use, and it will stay in place once.

A grade on a scale of one to five Although this tool is incredibly expensive, I am disappointed by the design of the adjustment dial - a weak point for any tool of this caliber
5/5

The grip and use of the device are too difficult. Rubberizing the surface and projecting the dial that much further would have been more useful by DeWalt The design effort must have spotted this problem. This is one tool which I should have done the recon at the store in person rather than buying it online based on my faith in DeWalt. It is important to learn from your mistakes. As a whole, the router is working well. The unit would also have been nice if an optional holding tray or case had been included, such as those found in other DeWalt tools.

As far as 2013 goes, things are going well
3/5

This thing has a few bad reviews on Amazon, so I was hesitant about buying it. Following my reading of them and noticing an improvement over 2012, I decided to take the plunge (pun intended) and order this Fixed Router. This thing does not have any bells and whistles, but it's got an awesome A few rabbets were cut and then some template work was done. This little beast gets the job done, but it is a mess. Obviously, I'll change it if the motor burns, but one (negative) review revealed that using this 3-in-1 will result in a burnt motor A 4 day a week schedule for over 3 years eventually led to burnout. For a buck fifty router, I'd say that's within my expectations. It is super simple to adjust. The first time I used it, I was able to get a great cut, although that is not the primary purpose for which it is intended. The router in question is pretty standard. Hopefully, the motor will last for at least a year, and I'll probably buy another one without a plunger. A brief update I have used this router for a lot of things including cutting trim, template work, cutting dice, tongue / groove cuts, roundovers, etc. has performed very well for a long time now. It's been a year since I first had a problem with this router, so I'm not sure what issues were noted previously. Because my jigs are now made to go with these measurements, I plan to buy another one just like it. The following is the latest update dated During the past year, I have continued to use this router on a weekly/monthly basis. In fact, I just used it to trim and profile a walnut countertop that had a thickness of 1 1/4 inch. The application continues to function normally with no hiccups. My favorite thing about this router is its speed and reliability. no longer use it in my router table because I upgraded to a triton 3 1/4 hp router but I still use it for hand work. The two craftsman routers I bought cheaply just went to the landfill.
