When you put the switch in the fine adjustment position (the one with the up and down arrow), turning the knurled knob only raised If you turned it the other way, it would jam. We have no choice but to raise Furthermore, there was no evidence that the depth adjustment lock was locked. With the knurled knob, it was still possible to fine-tune the adjustment. Sadly, I'm unsure whether this is a defect in the design or a malfunction in I gave up and bought a Makita because all acrylic bases were chipped, and the unit did not come in a plastic bag in a box or anything protective.
