Questions & Answers

Others have stated that 5/32 bits will not work unless a collet of the appropriate size is used. Is it possible that the rotozip collets will fit, or does anyone know where I could find one?

Roto zip cullets will do the trick. They've been my go-to for quite some time.

What is included in the package?

It comes with batteries, a charger, and an entire kit of parts, plus a free sawzall if you buy it now!

Is there a light that is LED?

That is an excellent query. It doesn't appear to require one, so I guess it isn't required. Because this tool is primarily used to cut Sheetrock by feel.

Widget with a fully charged or depleted battery, as well as accessories?

Only a wrench and a blade are included in the bare tool.

I bought this router to make holes in cabinets for outlets and other things
4/5

For the past 8 months, I've had this tool. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'll know that I'm a Makita fan, which may influence my opinion of their products. br>br>I bought this router to cut holes in cabinets for things like outlets and other things. It performs admirably for this purpose. I recently used it to cut out can lights and boxes in ship lap that we installed on a ceiling, and it worked flawlessly once again. br>br>Even with the battery, the tool is incredibly light. Because the battery is located on the tool's top side, it is extremely well balanced. It has a lot of power and has been shown to last a long time even when used with a 5. There is no battery in this device. Not to mention the fact that it is not tethered to a cord makes any task it is used for go much faster. However, I've discovered that you really need to just let the tool do its thing, as attempting to cut faster just snaps the bits. We're working with off-the-shelf roto-molding equipment. Home Depot sells the zip bits brand. I'm disappointed, however, that it only came with one size arbor, which means I can only use the smaller bits and the larger, heavier-duty ones are out. br>br>I'm assuming most guys will be using this for drywall, so dust management won't be an issue, but for what I use it for, it would be nice because this bad boy is extremely messy. It's a horrible experience to cut costs. Dust management isn't an option for this, as far as I can tell, and I've never seen it on similar competitors' tools. br>br>The bottom line is that this is a versatile tool that will be a valuable addition to your fleet. Although it lacks dust management and the ability to switch to larger style bits, it may cost you a little more in the long run for the smaller bits that will wear out and snap more frequently. Would I buy from them again? br>br> Without a doubt! Please let Amazon know if you found my review useful by clicking the helpful button below.

When it arrived, it was defective
3/5

Makita tools have long been a favorite of mine, owing to their "bulletproof" construction. br>br>Unfortunately, this tool had an excessive amount of vibration right out of the box. Unusable. br>br>I've returned the item and am hoping for a quick resolution through Amazon's usually excellent return process. Regardless, I've now missed my project deadline and am forced to go through the RMA process. It's a compelling reason to re-evaluate your situation. Consider purchasing items from your neighborhood. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> br>br>I got the replacement, and it, too, vibrates a lot. I'll keep it, but only because it's the only way I can charge my phone. Makita is the manufacturer of the entire tool set. After a few days of use, side-by-side comparisons were made. side by side with a rival team The competitor's unit is smaller, lighter, doesn't vibrate, and performs similarly to the Makita. I strongly advise you not to purchase this unit unless you already own all Makita batteries, as I do.

This is a fantastic spiral cutter
5/5

Own a few corded and cordless spiral cutting tools? The Makita has relegated them to a drawer once again. It has a lot of power and handles everything I've thrown at it with ease, including cutting materials that my other tools struggle with, such as thicker chipboard and plywood. There were no complaints, with the exception of the size, which was simply an adjustment. br>br>By the way, if anyone thinks this is a router, they are mistaken. Routers are routers, and that's all there is to them. This is a shortened version of a longer article. out too. A completely different mindset. Purchase a router to help you with task and feature routing. This one does not let the user down as a cutting tool.

Okay, but the fact that it supports LXT is probably the only reason to choose it
3/5

This tool will do the job if you want to use it with your other Makita LXT tools. If you're looking for something new and better than what's already out there, keep looking. Advantages: br>br> Works with LXT batteries, does the job, and uses RotoZip's collet conesbr>br>Cons: Only comes with one size cone, requires a separate wrench to change bits (although pliers or a crescent wrench would suffice), appears to be larger and heavier than it should be, and, worst of all, the guide ring does not slide down far enough to allow the properly seated bit to penetrate 1/2" drywall and ride on what's beneath the drywall. I had no choice but to leave the bit protruding far from the collet, putting it at risk of breaking. br>br>It's loud, and you'll get a lot of dust, as with pretty much any tool of this type.

With a few caveats, I recommend this drywall cutout tool
4/5

This drywall cutout tool, also known as a router in the trades, is one of my favorites. It does a great job, and it's nice not to have to tangle with cords. br>There are a few things I'd like to see happen.
1. I wish it were brushless, because it would have more power and last longer on batteries.
2. I wish it had an LED light, because it seems like we're always working in areas where a light would be very useful. br>3. I wish it came in a hard case with a charger and at least two additional batteries. Batteries with a capacity of 4 amp hours or more are preferred. 5 amp hour batteries, as this uses batteries more frequently than I'd like; however, if it were brushless, batteries would likely last longer. br>I'm happy with my equipment. In a hard case, so I can store them safely away from the inevitable bumps, scrapes, and bruises they'll receive in a bag, or worse, without any protection at all. Finally, this tool makes a noise as if it has a bad bearing when pushed. I don't believe it has, because a friend and coworker both have the same tool and sound the same. We shouldn't be pushing them as hard because they're cordless; they still get the job done, and they get it done well. I went with RotoZip XB- I tried using the DW10 5/32" bit to see if it would help, but the sound is still the same. On the plus side, these bits cut better and last much longer, despite being more expensive. I have yet to break one.

I've never used a better rotary tool
5/5

Makita has always exceeded my expectations, so I went into this with a critical mindset. I used this thing a lot while building my house, mostly on drywall but also on trim and other wood. It performs better than the corded Dewalt and Dremel units I previously used. The foot is easily adjustable, and the device is simple to operate. Because it is a power hog, it works best with 5Ah batteries. If I was using it heavily, I'd think I'd have to change the batteries every hour or so. However, the device's power and speed make replacing the battery well worth it. This is a fantastic tool!.
