When I bought this Dremel, I was a little hesitant. I've been using corded Dremel tools for over 40 years, and I've even replaced the brushes in the motors on a couple of them. I wasn't sure if the battery-operated one could match the corded ones in terms of power. I was surprised at how well it competed with my corded one. Furthermore, because of the battery, I was able to use it in places where I couldn't use my corded ones. I haven't completely depleted the battery yet, so I can't say how long it would last if used continuously, but it lasts long enough for the majority of the tasks I need it for. I'm finding that I'm reaching for the cordless one more and less, and that I'm using the corded ones less and less.

" This is supposed to indicate that it is still half-charged. I decided to give the new tool a go at polishing a knife blade. The tool ran for about five minutes before dying, using the buffing wheel and a little Flitz polish. I charged it for an hour, and it seemed to work as expected after that. The motor, however, overheated, and the tool did not polish the blade at all. Then I began to question why I had placed this order in the first place. They're useless for anything, as I already knew. That's why, for the past 70 years, I've managed to function without one. I was about to take the Dreadful out into my garage to meet my 10 pound sledge hammer, which was a real eye opener for other useless products I had been persuaded to buy in the past, when I had the idea that "maybe I can use this piece of crap to sharpen dart points. " "I recently purchased approximately 30 dart sets. As a dart point sharpener, it performs admirably. A piece of sand paper, on the other hand, does the same thing.

I got this as a Christmas present and I really liked it at first. It was simple to operate and provided ample power for small hobby projects, in my opinion. Then, about a week ago, I noticed that it was quickly running out of battery power. I'd get a maximum of ten. After having it plugged in overnight to charge, I got 15 minutes of use out of it. The battery charger kept going dead today, as if it was running out of juice. I double-checked the polarity of my 122vdc outlet, then plugged in my 12 volt ion craftsman charger, which worked perfectly, so I reseated the dremel battery and plugged it back in, only to see a small arc from the charger, indicating that it was dead. I'm guessing I only had one. It has been used for 5 hours.

PRO: My first Dremmel, which I bought on the advice of a knowledgeable friend. The power, mobility, and speed control are all excellent.
CONS: When used alone, it's too big for fine work. I purchased the add-on and am very pleased with it. For some tasks, batteries are sufficient. My friend works in the automotive industry, installing electrical components. That would be ideal. It's what I use to carve wood and stone with. These larger projects take longer than the batteries can provide. I bought a second battery, which helps, but it drains faster than the first. I wish I'd purchased a dremmel with a cord. That is, however, due to my lack of experience. It is deserving of five stars because it does exactly what it is supposed to do.
