Questions & Answers

What exactly do the fractions after the model number indicate? Ex: 4200- 4000- or 4/36 is a number that can be used to describe a number 6/50; Please explain what the numbers 4/36 and 6/50 mean. ?

4000/4/32 refers to the Dremel Rotary Model 4000, which includes four factory parts (Collet, Shield, Circle Drawing Guide, and so on) and 32 accessories (grinding discs, buffing wheels, wire wheels and brushes, abrasive wheels, and so on). The factory components are installed as needed. If you're removing rust with a wire wheel, you might want to put a Shield on the Collet to keep the wires from hitting you. The accessories are the parts that attach to the Tool and allow you to complete your tasks - Know that accessories are sold on Amazon at very low rates from the same shop in China that Dremel orders them from, and that they can be used to cut metal, grind metal, remove rust, sand, buff, and polish, among other things. There isn't any distinction. Dremel accessories aren't necessary, in my opinion. The only thing you'll need from Dremel that isn't available on Amazon are replacement carbon brushes for the Model 4000. The ones made in China that can be found on Amazon do not fit. None do. br>br>Model 4300/6/46 refers to the Dremel Tool Model 4300 (the most recent), which includes six factory attachments and 46 accessories. br>br>Factory attachments are extremely useful and should be taken into account. The accessories are useful because they allow you to try out different options for your work before investing in a 100-pack. By the way, there are three major differences between the 4300 and the 4000 models: It has a 2 amp motor, LED lights to help you see what you're doing, and it's brushless, so there's no need to replace carbon brushes. This is a simple replacement, but it must be ordered from Dremel.

The warranty is listed as 2 years in the technical specifications, but it is listed as 5 years in the body of the narrative. Which is the correct answer?

According to the Dremel website, the 4000 series has a two-year warranty. At least four Dremel rotary tools, the oldest of which is 20 years old, are in my possession. The 4000 is the most powerful. Only one Dremel tool has ever failed in my 40 years of owning and abusing them. It appears that the speed control has stopped working. It was otherwise in good condition, so I gave it to a friend who didn't have one and told him to send it to Dremel for repair and he'd get a refurbished unit for a low price. He listened to my advice and had it repaired. Dremel repaired the tool under warranty and returned it to him free of charge. Serial numbers and manufacture/sale dates are kept on file. There is no muss, no fuss, and the service is quick and efficient. I can assure you, however, that it is not frequently required.

How do you tell the difference between 2/30 and 6/50?

The 2/30 has two attachments and thirty accessories, while the 6/50 has six attachments and fifty accessories.

Is it possible for me to use 220 volts?

It won't run at 220 volts, and attempting to do so could result in injury, but 220 volts won't waste power and is more efficient than 120 volts. Because power = voltage x current, any device will draw the amount of power it requires. So if you double the voltage, the current will fall by 50%. Voltage Drop = current x resistance. The higher the current, the greater the voltage drops along the wires due to wire resistance. As the voltage drops, the motor continues to try to pull the same amount of power, which it does by drawing more current, which causes another voltage drop and thus more current, and so on. Heat, which is the enemy of all electrical devices, is also produced by current. Power is transmitted at tens of thousands of volts across hundreds of thousands of miles of wire in Europe to reduce current and thus voltage droops; higher voltage is more efficient at transmission!

Never put yourself in the way of a man's tools
5/5

The Dremel Widow has signed her name. My husband pleaded with me to get one of these, and he uses it for anything he can get his hands on! So it all began when he needed to grind down a part - br>br> As a result, he began his research and determined that a rotary tool was required. After doing his research, he discovered that this Dremel was the best quality one on the market. He then began to drop "subtle" hints in my direction - first texting me the product link, then casually remarking on how much more he could accomplish if he only had this one tool - After that, he told me it was a requirement, and then he explained why the tool was so valuable. What's a girl to do when she's in this situation? I placed an order for it. He then proceeded to ask me about every four hours or so how long it would take for it to arrive; thank goodness for Amazon's two-day shipping! I handed him the box, and he dashed to the garage to have some fun. I haven't seen him in a long time - I have no idea what he's going to do with it; all I know is that he's as happy as a tornado in a trailer park. I'm going to have to start calling myself a "Dremel Widow," and if anyone knows of a support group for people with similar problems, please let me know. I'm almost certain I received a refurbished dremel
3/5

I paid the 'New' price for this dremel, but I believe it was refurbished. Everything appeared to have been thrown into the case at random, and one of the accessories was in a zip-lock bag. The loc bag was re-used, the dremel had dings from use, and the manufacturer's box had been re-used. Hot glue was used to adhere the pieces together. When I pay the new price for something, I expect it to be brand new.

Junk
3/5

I own a total of four Dremel tools of this type. The first one lasted for decades, despite being heavily used. The last three haven't been worthwhile to own. These are worthless due to their lack of dependability. I've put off buying other products because of the cost, but it would have been worthwhile if I didn't have to replace them so frequently. This one isn't quite two years old and hasn't seen much use (unlike the first one I purchased). Last night, I took it out and discovered that the speed controller had failed - Regardless of the setting, it only runs at full rpm. Furthermore, it has lost its torque. Never again will I purchase a Dremel tool. The quality has been ruined wherever they've outsourced their manufacturing.

A word or two about collets
4/5

A number of buyer complaints about the collet on this Dremel can be found in the reviews. I recently purchased this model and believe I have a better understanding of the issue that at least some users are experiencing. br>br>Let's start with a definition. The mandrel (also known as an accessory shank by Dremel) is the solid shaft on which the cutting or grinding tool is mounted. This mandrel slides into a silver-colored slot on the Dremel when you install the cutter. The collet is a multi-colored hollow tube. The dark- The collet nut is a metal nut that surrounds the collet and secures it to the unit. br>br>All of the accessories that come with this Dremel model work with 1/8"-inch drill bits. mandrels/shanks of various diameters Most of Dremel's other accessories have this shank size, though some have 3/32", 1/16", or 1/32" shanks. br>br>When my Dremel 4000 arrived, I discovered that none of the 1/8" shanks that came with it fit into the collet. I believe that some of the other buyers who encountered this issue came to the conclusion that their Dremels had been delivered with the incorrect-sized bits. a collet of a specific size br>br>However, when I disassembled it, I discovered that the collet had simply been jammed tightly into the collet nut, narrowing its diameter to the point where the shanks couldn't fit. I took the collet nut off the Dremel and pushed the collet out of the back end of the collet nut with a small screwdriver. The collet was able to open up to its full diameter as a result of this. All of the shanks that came with it are now compatible. br>br>So, if you buy one of these and the shanks don't seem to fit into the collet, give this a try before assuming it's the wrong size; Dremel could probably use some quality control on this to ensure everything works properly. Dremel sells a 4485 Collet Nut Kit (about $6-$8) if you need a different collet size for other mandrels/shanks that aren't included in this kit. The four collet sizes listed above are available for $7 in 2015 at hardware stores.

Cutting wall tile and drywall is a breeze with this tool! I'm a 59-year-old woodworker and do-it-yourselfer who has been doing so for as long as I can remember
5/5

I have every tool imaginable in my home workshop, but I have never owned a Dremel. When I needed to cut some unsupported shower tile to get to a leaking bypass valve, I bought this tool. I was skeptical at first, but it cut the tile much easier than I had anticipated. Because it's a rotary tool, I was able to cut the unsupported shower tile without putting too much pressure on it, which could have broken it. The shower tile is 15 years old, and we don't have any matching replacement tiles, so that would have been a minor disaster. It worked so well that I used the Dremel tool to cut drywall several times after that. This coming weekend, I'll be using it to cut a window in the metal column of my drill press so that I can install a counter weight for my drill press table. This tool has become a must-have for me! I'm excited to put it to use on some wood carving projects I've been considering!.

The equipment was adequate in and of itself, and it met expectations
3/5

The equipment was adequate in and of itself, and it met expectations. However, after four months of use, it abruptly stopped working for no apparent reason. I'll ask for a WARRANTY on it.
