Questions & Answers

This tool did not have the hose connector I was looking for can you search and let me know the link? I find it a bit inconvenient that Makita doesn't include the connector?

As others have noted, I am not thrilled with the design of the water. Fasteners that use the quick connect fitting are not available in local stores (home depot, lowe's, Ferguson & Co. Other) I tried for a few days to find a proper fit, but without success. It has a British 1/8th thread or BSP 1/8th as it is called. I found on amazon an adapter to convert it to a 1/4 inch This is not the right piece, and I spent too much time looking for it. Wishing you the best of luck!

What is the best way for me to polish my wet surface with a 5" backer pad? Can you tell me if the threads are ?

It is 5/8 yes and it can be done

Are there any products that can be used on Corian countertops?

don't see any problem with this kind of water-based finishing, but I believe Corian can be sanded and polished using traditional paint processing and buffing tools, so I don't see a reason to use this. It might be overkill to only have a polisher.

What can I use this for? I have a swimming pool that I want to polish. ?

A series of diamond grit pads are used, starting about 50 grit and going up to 3000 grit, and a polish pad is then used to polish the stone. If you have granite or marble, they can give it a glass smooth finish. In my opinion, cement based plaster that is used in swimming pools doesn't have a fine enough grain to be finished to this degree of Almost all of the coatings used to achieve the smoothness of glass I've seen use a coating.

You're the best! Lapidary artists will find this great! I think you've got a wonderful piece of equipment there
5/5

My favorite thing to do is polish rocks and boulders that I find along rivers. There are times when I just polish the rock and use it in the yard, and there are times when I carve it out and use it as a fountain or bird bath. For this type of project, it's really amazing! When I hold it with both hands, I do it more often than when I put it in a vice on the table and move the rock with my hands. My plan depends on the rock size I am working with and the goal I am trying to achieve.

There's no end to it! We're polishing large stones and boulders, and we can't get them to stop! A presentation on the use of wet polishers of this type was given by my lapidary club. As far as their Barranca was concerned These diamond polishers lasted just a few hours before they gave up the ghost. It seems even the warranty replacements did not last very In addition to my many hobbies, I knew Makita was a quality manufacturer of hand tools, so when I decided to purchase this polisher, I did not hesitate. This unit has yet to emit even a single wimper until I use it for long duration polishing sessions (up to 15 different grit pads at no less than 15 minutes each). If you need to polish stone, I highly recommend this unit. It is possible to find 4" lapidary grit pad kits that will fit this unit if you search on eBay. Many grit pad kits only have a few different grit pads to choose from. that offer a dozen or more different grit pads (*$45 - $125 This is $100). Besides the two hook backing attachments, my kit comes with one that comes with the Makita (Additionally, the one that comes with my kit can be used to complete the set). In order to use this unit correctly, I prefer the front end grip as opposed to the side grip. As a result, I am able to control and pressurize myself better. One thing else you should purchase to be able to provide water to the unit is a water supply. The garden hose quick connector 36004 I bought is manufactured by Gardena. This type of connector is required if you plan to use the water feature of the unit. To use the Makita PW5001C, you will first need to connect the unit to a standard garden hose with the Quick Connector you purchase separately. After that, connect the power cord to an outdoor outlet (where the Makita is located, you need to raise the power cord off the ground somewhere between the Makita and the The cord should be draped over an object like a brick or rock, or a The outlet is protected from water, so the water cannot pass all the way from the unit. It's not a good idea to mix water and electricity). You may also want to make sure that your work site is on a slope away from your electrical source! Now, you need to turn the water valve so that it is perpendicular to the long length of the unit (this is the Afterward, you may turn on the water at the faucet (no more than a quarter or half turn is needed. The only thing you need to do is to allow When you are ready to turn on the Makita unit, switch to the other end of the power cord and press the Reset button on the built-in GFCI unit (This will allow you to plug it in). You can now go back to the Makita and apply the grit pad you chose to the hook and the handle. Backing attachment (The hole in the pad should be lined up with the point in the backing attachment, to prevent water from getting in). Placing the Makita directly over the object to be polished will ensure a smooth finish. By turning the water valve slowly, you can ensure that the water is running through the unit. Rotate the polishing pads clockwise (towards the front of the unit) until water begins to trickle out of the ports in the center. On the Makita, push the power button located on the front panel. A power supply will be applied, and the Makita unit will gradually ramp-up Increase the speed of your computer. The Makita unit should be held with one hand at the back (Where the power cord is located), and the other hand should grasp the handle that you installed (Either on the front or side of the unit). Placing the Makita on top of your project and making sure the polishing pad is flat is a good way to get a good polish. A slow circular motion should be used when moving the unit. Observe how the water sprays on you after a few seconds. If it seems to be a bit hot (because more heat is created than is cooled), turn the valve to let more water You should try to let the water spray on you cool as long as possible. When you have reached the desired level of polishing with that particular grit pad, continue moving the pad in a circular motion keep the pad flat on the surface as you do so. Turn off the power by pushing the back of the power button first, then sliding it backward after. If you want to shut down for the day or to change grit pads, do so by first pushing the power button, then sliding it backward. As power is ramped down, it will gradually disappear. You can then turn off the water supply by closing the water valve (perpendicular). Be sure that when you are shutting down for the day, you get to the water spigot and turn off the water there first before attempting to disconnect the water at the Quick Connect adapter, or you are likely to get water in the wrong spot. If you don't like what you see, you can hide it in your eyes, ears, or You don't want to accidentally douse your innocent bystander wife with water.

If you just need to change pads, you just have to turn off the water and power at the unit, change pads, and turn on the power and water again. You'll enjoy it!.

This polisher does a great job
5/5

We modified the water feed for better performance. My decision to purchase the Makita tool was based on other reviews and past Makita tools that I have owned before. This is an excellent tool and I have been very pleased with it, except for the clunky connecting of the water feed. By attaching air fittings to the polisher's water valve I modified it. To connect it to a garden hose, I used a 20' piece of 1/4 inch poly tube and an adapter. There is electrical tape at the end of the polisher that covers the sharp edges of the hose clamp. In addition to the lightweight, flexible hose being long and easy to unhook from the polisher for storage, it is also easy to grip. All worked out well, it was cheap and there are a lot of parts.

This review gives you tips and hints on how to make it better

The gardena parts package that others suggested with the grinder order was the solution to the water feed adapters not coming with the grinder. After reading reviews I ordered the add-on to the grinder order to obtain the water feed adapters. It worked fine when I got it, however I was concerned that the plastic pieces at the back would become overly strained and break under the weight of the hose when I unplugged it. Nonetheless, people are not supposed to worry about the first brass fitting with a farrel nut in An outgoing 1/8" NPT fitting is located on the black hose side. Because of this, you can adapt the 1/8" pipe fitting in any way you desire. To do this, I went to the hardware store and got brass fittings from a brass fittings section and moved from 1/8" NPT to 1/2" NPT, then 1/2" NPT to a female swivel garden hose fitting. My only addition after that was a plastic male/female adapter with a plastic ball valve (2 1/2" long) to control the flow of water. I am very satisfied with the result. If you plan on using a 50-grit buffing pad, I recommend testing them on a scrap piece of granite tile or marble tile first, since the 50 grit is extremely rough and you may spend more There is no doubt you would need all the diamond pads in the different grits. Additionally, I would recommend using a hand squeegie since the scratches are harder to spot when the work is wet. You can see what you're doing much more clearly when you use a squeegie to wipe the water away. Hopefully this will be of some help to.

You're the best

The fact that the unit's water feed is connected should cause me to give it 3 or 4 stars. My favorite part of the tool, however, is that I really like it As a quick guide Here is how I connected the polisher to the Please note that An example of a quick connect is as follows Tubing made of vinyl with an inside diameter of 1/4". This is a 10 foot long fence. Please note that There is only one website on the web that sells the following '3/4" x 1/4" Swivel Connector Female Garden Hose To Hose Barb. Please note that The barb ends are clamped using two clamps as well. This thin vinyl tubing is ideal because the thicker one gets caught and pushes the polisher back.

It was a fail by Makita, the adapter was not included, and customer service was horrible
3/5

It is necessary to use the correct adapter when connecting water to the garden hose. My local hardware store, Makita's supplier, or even a hardware store could not help me so I contacted the customer service department at Makita. By sending them one email, they responded with a rude response telling them to not spam their support mailbox. Rather than just asking for the correct part number, or even the correct size since it is not stated in the manual, I requested the correct part number. The customer service from Makita was extremely unprofessional for a part that should have been there from the first. I will be returning the product just because of the poor service they provided. This product is not worth the headache, again this part cannot be found at your local hardware store. From my experience, I DO NOT recommend this product. If you're going to spend your money and time on this one, or any Makita I suggest you pass on it.
