Is it possible to use this to smooth a scuffed tabletop? What is the purpose of the coffee table? Alternatively, individual boards can be used. Thanks?

You certainly have the capability. To become proficient, you'll need a lot of practice. My grade is a six. For this, I used a 1/4 makita, but the narrower versions, such as this, are much more useful and work faster than a belt sander. To finish, I sand with a belt sander. Once everything is as flat as I can make it, I'll even out the overlapping grooves. This is about the only way to go if you're working with end grain (like a large stump table), as the belt sander moves even slower.

This is a fantastic little machine that completed a difficult task admirably
5/5

I love this machine because it quickly leveled my large hardwood work bench, including end grain, with no effort. I had been hand planning it for several hours and this finished the job in a short amount of time. I had a couple of slats with squirrelly grain in them and was having a hard time going over this area with my jack plane. It would chip out, but the Makita planer, using shallow cuts and going slowly, would simply smooth it out, eliminating the chip outs, making a significant difference in finishing the leveling of the top. br>br>It's small and portable, and it works well on flat surfaces as well as on the sides. One disadvantage is that the chip exhaust is only on one side, which means that if you need to go in a specific direction, such as pointing up plaining on the side, it will be in your face. Although a collector bag is available as an accessory, Makita should have included an elbow that fits the exhaust port and allows you to direct where the dust and chips go. I've since bought a smaller dust hose that will fit it, which should help keep the chips from flying all over the place.

This is an excellent cordless tool
5/5

The product is manufactured in the United Kingdom. I used it right away, right out of the box, on a job where the nearest electrical outlet was a half mile away or I had to rely on a portable generator. br>It was a breeze to plan warped screen doors for a cabin in the woods - The shavings came out nice and clean. Using a BL1850 battery that is fully charged - It was no problem for me to plan for eight doors - However, I did not put it through an all-encompassing test. a day of exercise - As a result, I'm not sure how long it'll last. br>It won't completely replace my corded planers, but it'll suffice for the purpose for which I bought it - It appeals to me. Mine was designed and manufactured in the United Kingdom.

It has a flaw
3/5

It works fine once it's turned on, but there appears to be a safety system in place that prevents it from turning on (or there's a strange short in the wiring). There hasn't been any other mention of this problem, so it could be a problem with my unit. It's impossible to start the planer unless it's in contact with something. However, there is a random element; I must continue pressing it down in various ways until I reach the "magic spot," at which point the blade will begin spinning. I can move it around and use it just fine once it's started, but figuring out how to start it is *extremely* frustrating. I've gone through all of the documentation and user questions and can't find anything that describes the problem I'm having. I'd give it four stars if it would just turn on, but as it stands, every time I try to use it, it makes me angry.

This is a fantastic tool for people who have specific requirements
5/5

I used this planer on two large rough sawn slabs of 8/4 ponderosa pine from a local sawmill, each measuring 30" x 96". Because these slabs were too large and heavy for my wood shop, I worked outside to clean one rough face for a picnic table project. The cordless feature made this job much easier, and despite the 3-hour time limit, The cleanup with a belt sander was much faster than sanding alone because the 1/4" width required multiple passes. My expectations for the outcome were exceeded.

ONE OF THE BEST CORDLESS PLANNERS ON THE MARKET
5/5

This cordless planer performs admirably. It's a little tricky at first, but after a few passes, you'll get the hang of it. The depth selector is useful, but it does leave a lot of snipe at the end of the board, so keep that in mind. The battery life is adequate, but it is highly dependent on the type of wood used and the depth to which it is planed. This instrument appears to be designed for people who are right-handed. I'm left-handed, and when I use the planer with my left hand, the dust port is facing me, spitting shavings all over me. . . . When using it, think about using a shop vac. When you sit the planer down, it also has a built-in stand that elevates the blades off the surface.

It's a powerful tool that's also fairly simple to use
5/5

As a novice DIYer, I was able to use this tool to repair protruding studs while preparing for drywall installation. I couldn't have solved the problem without this planer. In a matter of minutes, I was able to remove nearly 1/4" from a stud. There was no mess because I plugged the hose from my shop vac into the outlet port.

For a homekeeper, this is a lovely tool
5/5

There were a lot of doors that were jamming shut at the top, or wouldn't close because they were painted too thick for the frame, or were installed in the winter and expanded in the summer due to humidity. All of them open after one pass with this beast. Now it's time to close up shop like a pro! If you go forward off the edge, across the grain of course (doh! ), you have to be careful not to split the wood. br>br>I haven't tried it (yet) for planing on tools with more than one width.

It's perfectly level and performs admirably
5/5

The cordless planer is unquestionably beneficial. I tried the Makita planer with a cord, but it was not level - I tried everything I could to make that model work, but nothing worked. Note that, unlike the cordless version, which comes with a round exhaust piece, the corded planer requires an additional adapter to collect chips with a shop vac. br>br>I am very pleased with this product.
