Questions & Answers

Is it possible to cut flush against a wall with this, or does the blade need to be set back an inch?

Thank you for reaching out to us with your query. The PL1632 planer does not have the ability to cut flush against a wall. There will be a gap between the front of the shoe and the blade that it will not be able to bridge. Please contact one of our Bosch Product Specialists if you have any additional questions. 877- BOSCH- 99 (1- 877- 267- 2499).

Is it capable of plane horizontal surfaces in the same way that a bench top planer can?

Obviously, it is not a benchtop planer and must be used by hand, but it is the ideal tool for smoothing a board, a door, or even a floor surface, or for bringing something down to size to fit. It's not a "benchtop planer" or a "jointer" for making perfectly dimensional lumber. " I use mine to fit doors into pre-existing frames because you can shave a door to a perfect fit and remove old finishes by lightly planing."

What is the current status of the depth adj? to 3/16?

Thank you for reaching out to us with your query. The PL1632 is a 0"-sized device. Plane depth of 1/16" Please contact one of our Bosch Product Specialists if you have any additional questions. 877- BOSCH- 99 (1- 877- 267- 2499).

Is this some sort of whitcase?

Thank you for reaching out to us with your query. There is no carrying case or bag included with the PL1632. The L-Case is a good option if you want a carrying case. PL1632 and Boxx 3 are compatible. The PL2632K is a similar planer with a case and a few extra features as an alternative. Selected User Reviews For Bosch PL1632 6.5 Amp Hand Planer, 3-1/4"

Only marginally better than my other Bosch tools
3/5

Because I haven't had a bad experience with Bosch tools before, I bought this item on the spur of the moment. Bosch has consistently been one of the strongest tool brands in my previous experiences, both in terms of performance and in terms of detail polish. br>br>On my first order, I was given a planer that appeared to have been used previously. On some of the plane's surfaces, there was a sticky residue, and the bag was stained. I requested a replacement after returning it. On the plane surface of the second unit, there is a sticky residue as well. There appear to be some light grinding marks as well. When I first started planeing, I noticed that the dust collection quickly stopped working (after only a few passes), and sawdust was blown all over my table. When I looked inside the bag, I noticed a lot of loose thread all over the place (see photo). It worked like a web, allowing only a small amount of shavings to enter the bag. It quickly became clogged. I got back to work after cleaning out the bag and cutting out all of the thread. I was working with the planer for about a minute or two when the bag began to fly away while I was cutting. After shooting off four or five rounds, I've decided 5 times that it isn't a matter of how well I seat the bag on the planer, but rather that it simply doesn't fit. So I wrapped a couple layers of tape around the planer port to increase the OD and make it fit better. br>br>It appears to be working now that I've cleaned the planer surface, clipped the bag threads, and taped the output port. I decided to test the cut accuracy in a couple of ways after having a rocky start with the tool. First, there's the consistency of cut depth from left to right (which, in my opinion, is the most important), and then there's the actual depth. The left-to-right depth was excellent, with only a few thousand differences (0. 002"). Based on the dial setting, the depth of cut was reasonable, ranging from 0. 003"- 008" short of the true size. The largest difference was 1/16 of a percent (or 0. 0625"), for which I received a score of 0 "0545" is the cut number. br>br>It wasn't all bad; as other reviews have mentioned (such as the lock-on feature), there are a few nice features. off switch, as well as the parking brake). The machine has a solid feel to it and appears to cut reasonably well. The planer has plenty of power and hasn't burned anything yet. The finish isn't the best I've seen, but it'll do the job for me (doors, thinning small boards, flattening lathe blanks, and so on). However, I would not expect this level of overall quality from a less expensive brand. Perhaps in the 50s. Around the $60 mark. This experience has changed my opinion of Bosch tools, and I'll be conducting more in-depth reviews in the future before purchasing them.

Electric shocks and clogging on a regular basis
3/5

1) I first became aware that I was experiencing minor electrical shocks. They made me feel like I was walking through a cloud of static electricity. When I asked if this was normal, the answer was a resounding no. br>br>2) The export hole constantly clogs, and if you use the bag, it will clog almost immediately. I should've realized what I was getting myself into. Some YouTube tool reviewers only used vacuum cleaners in their videos. They were avoiding the bag, so it must be an issue. (Hasn't it been a long time since you read a review that was Even without the collection bag, this planer will clog and start spraying chips in front of the planer on the piece you are trying to level, making it harder until you get to the end of the pass and clear the problem. This occurred in the year 1632. Perhaps the other is superior, but the design appears to be identical. 3) The "Spring-Summer-Summer-Summer-Summer-Summer-Summer-Summer-Sum The "loaded stand" clogs up as well and then vanishes, leaving you with a slowing blade that will come into contact with something. I don't put things down until they completely stop, which means I have to check the "Spring-Fall-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter-Winter" box You'll be resting on the blade if I don't make sure the loaded stand is down before I put the tool down. There's no point in "Spring-cleaning" if you don't have to. then "loaded stand" comes to mind. 4) The depth setting is constantly shifting. After that, I ordered a Makita, which clicks for each depth setting, indicating that it cannot slide. br>br>5) The Makita makes it simple to remove and sharpen the blades. So far, it appears to be a superior product. br>br>In Bosch, I'm disappointed. I have a number of their older power tools and consider myself fortunate that I was able to find them used. This tool isn't as good as the older ones.

All of a sudden, everything started to fall out of place
3/5

Customer service is atrocious. *Update: Updated on November 20th, 2011 - On November 9th, I finally got a new one. I found two people at Bosch who assisted me in getting a replacement and were communicatively proactive. They deserve kudos for dealing with a grumpy individual like myself. It was fantastic. Unfortunately, the replacement tool had the same issue as the original. Furthermore, instead of sending me a new tool, they sent me a refurbished tool, which means I received someone else's broken return that they (in theory) repaired. So here I am, 5 months after purchasing a tool that is stuck and can't plane any lower than the current zero setting, which isn't zero. It's a shame because this tool isn't very complex. After that, I'm not going to buy any more Bosch products. Good luck if you decide to buy it. When I was reviewing planers, I wanted to buy this once and get a nice tool. br>br>I hope your experience is better than mine. br>br>When I was reviewing planers, I wanted to buy this once and get a nice tool. As a result, I bypassed some of the less expensive brands in favor of a few high-end options. Bosch is the most expensive tool money can buy, with a decent reputation to boot. There were a few reports of it being misaligned to the point where you couldn't get a "zero" cut even though it was set to zero, but these were few and far between. One reviewer complained that the aluminum plate was so soft that it scratched wood (yeah, right, he stepped on a screw). Okay, I got the tool, I cut half the thickness with it set to zero and zip off, so the blade should be hidden. There's no way to fix this without dismantling the tool and reassembling it from the ground up. Assembling, which is a dreadful prospect; there is no manual or reference anywhere, so reverse engineering would be required. On July 31, I purchased the tool. I was incarcerated for a few weeks and decided to test it out after three weeks. Customer service has been terrible, with responses taking up to a week to arrive. I'm on my fourth iteration. In the midst of this, I tried their chat, but their chat person never responded until three days later, when I received a random text from precious. (huh? Because I didn't connect the text to Bosch and didn't respond in under 10 minutes, she closed my ticket and I had to start over. After three weeks, they demote me to level 2. I finally find someone who seems to be able to help, and it appears that we will be able to work out a solution. After 5 days, I receive an email from level 1 instructing me to send my tool with these labels to be repaired. That's exactly what I was trying to stay away from. What is the time frame for this? We don't know because it is determined by the factory's backlog. 2 months! Oh, my goodness. It's unusual for me to write a negative review, but this is the worst experience I've had outside of the DMV, so think about that before purchasing this product; my only option is to spend my money elsewhere. I had to return it within 30 days, which I failed to do due to my failure to check it sooner, as well as Bosch customer service's utter incompetence.
