It certainly has a lot of power, but it doesn't collect dust or chips. After designing a dust collection shroud on SolidWorks and sending it to a nearby 3D printer (my one was in Brooklyn and made and shipped for 45 dollars), I ended up sending my design out for 3D printing. For GRABCAD, you can download the free shroud I designed that fits a 2 inch hose. As well as filling the 3D printed shroud with epoxy to make it feel more solid, I used West Systems epoxy. 3 screws secure the shroud, and some silicone sealant (GE Clear II) is used to seal sinks and stuff.
It was a little pricey to have a dust collection system, but man does this thing let the dust fly off. This works well when I hook it up to my small cyclone and rigid SS shop vacuum. The amount of chips produced by 30 minutes of planing is around 30 gallons.

There is no denying that this planer gets the job done. I would agree that the exhaust is poorly situated, but my Shop-Vac was a little too small to reach the exhaust It was easy to fit the vac in there and most of the debris was lifted out. It is very handy to have the kickstand on the rear of the boat to keep your blades from wearing out. There are seven of them. High efficiency is achieved by using a motor with a 5 amp rating and a large sole plate. My latest cutting board project just couldn't be completed without this, since it reduced the finished time (and wear and tear on my arm muscles) by a huge margin. If I had to choose a model again, I would buy this one.
My use of this tool is to square up furniture Having a planer such as this is ideal for finish work as I am a hobbyist who builds solid wood furniture. I have to admit that it is a bit heavy, but I get used to it and it helps stabilize the process. If you're looking for a finer finish, this is the product for you. In addition, I would recommend getting a dust bag or hooking it up to a shop vac, since it does produce quite a bit of dust.
