Is there anything else I need to buy (like a battery) in order to use it? I'm completely clueless when it comes to power tools, am I right?

Hello there, and thank you for taking the time to write ACME Tools. Because the DWFP12231 Brad Nailer is a pneumatic tool, you'll need an air compressor and a hose with the correct fittings to use it. Aside from that, this device is simple and straightforward to operate.

What's the difference between a brad nailer and a finishing nailer that's 18 gauge and 16 gauge? Do I need to put up trim, build a bookcase, and lay down a decking floor?

Finish nails are made from heavier 16 or 15 gauge wire, whereas brad nails are used to fasten smaller crown and baseboard trim to help prevent splitting and promote a cleaner look with less touch-ups. After the nails have been nailed, you'll need to do some clean-up work.

Can anyone recommend a good air compressor to use with this nailer? I'm not an expert on tools and don't want to overspend?

Three of these nailers can be powered by a Husky 4 gallon portable. It was around $250 for me. There's a lot of silence here. These are both less expensive than buying a battery.

Junk. After three months of very light use, it stopped working. The nailer head became stuck due to a cracked piston ring. The piston sealer ring was cracked and broken when I took it apart. Many previous reviews stated that the nailer would not retract, which is exactly what happened to mine; I will not pay to ship it to DeWalt for repair because of an obvious defect; and one that the manufacturer is clearly aware of due to the large number of similar complaints. DeWalt's refusal to back up its claims of dependability and customer satisfaction is unfortunate. DeWalt will not be my first choice for tools in the future, and I will think twice even if it is the only option, as I was on hold for over 45 minutes the first three times I tried to contact customer service before hanging up. I left my phone number to be called "without losing my place in line" the last time, and I didn't get a call back for nearly two hours. br>br>UPDATE: br>br> The second of these, which I purchased within a month of the first, met the same fate as the first. When I disassembled it, I discovered the same damage as before, so I contacted DeWalt again, only to receive the same unresponsiveness. DeWalt is not a brand I'll buy again.

There's a reason why it's lemon-yellow
3/5

This was purchased to face nail and tongue nail some end rows of bamboo where my 18 gauge flooring nailer would not fit, as well as to replace the baseboard moulding. The best way to put it is that I'm completely frustrated. I used DeWalt, GripRite, and Porter Cable nails in sizes ranging from 1 1/4" to 2" for comparison. br>First and foremost, there is the following problem: The nails are sunk about 1/8 of an inch no matter how deep I set the depth. Before nailing, run the minimum recommended psi of 70 and use moderate tool pressure to keep the work tight. And that's assuming a nail comes out at all! br>Now I'll get to the second point: Pull the trigger and pop several times when nailing, only to discover a nice small hole in my work with no nail. Over and over again VERY INCONVENIENT! When I used 2 inch nails to install the baseboard, I would find the stud, shoot the nail, and then discover that the baseboard was not snug against the wall. Hmmm, I think I just missed the stub by a smidgeon. Move about a half inch to the right, fire another, and the baseboard is still loose. Regrettably, I've yet again failed to notice the stud. What in the world is going on here? This was something I used to excel at. Move a half inch to the left of the first hole; I'm sure I'll hit the stud this time, so shoot a nail. Arrgghh! When I get down on the floor to take a closer look, I discover three nice holes in my stained pine baseboard and not a single nail. Take a look at the latest issue of a nail magazine. Inside the magazine was a full strip, and it was tightly locked, hmm. Yes, this is the fourth hole, so close it up and fire another. OMG. IT FINALLY HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. YIPPEE FOR ME! You've got to be kidding me, haven't you? There's nothing like having four holes to fill for a single nail to add to the workload. I ordered a replacement, so we'll see how that goes as well.

There are a lot of Dewalt brand tools, and they work great the majority of the time, and they are my favorite
3/5

I have a lot of Dewalt brand tools, and they work great most of the time, so they are my go-to brand, and this tool was no exception when I first used it. I prefer this to my older Bostitch one in terms of overall functionality. The oring on the cylinder broke after 7 months in the middle of a project, which is why I gave it a 2 star rating. I use this tool moderately and expect a higher standard from Dewalt's tools.

When something works, it's fantastic
3/5

It's light weight and does a good job until it stops firing and destroys my new molding. It'll either have to be unjammed or fiddled with with the brads, which are correctly installed and Dewalt brads. Then it'll start working again until something goes wrong. A cheap brad nailer was already in my possession. I was looking for one that wouldn't ruin my molding. I guess it's just wishful thinking on my end. When it worked, the psi was set to 100, and they sunk perfectly. I was looking forward to having a good tool to work with. I wish this brad nailer was up to the task.

The first time I used it, there was a leak in the air
3/5

I only gave this nailer one star because of how quickly it arrived. When I removed the carry box from the plastic sleeve, I noticed that the zip tie that Dewalt usually includes with their boxes was missing. When I connected my air hose to the tool, I heard air escaping from the front of the nailer almost immediately. I decided to try shooting brads with it. Yes, it fired them, but it was losing so much air that after each brad I drove, my small compressor kicked in. br>I wasn't going to buy a Dewalt because the Bostitch and Dewalt brad nailers are nearly identical, with the same model number. But, because this nailer had a much better warranty than others, I decided to give it a shot. My previous experience with Bostitch brad nailers has shown that they only last 2 or 3 years before needing to be rebuilt, and that rebuilding is more expensive than buying a new one. I've had two Bostitch 18 gauge staple nailers fail, and this is the third brad nailer I've had fail prematurely. I've had good luck with other Dewalt power tools, but I can't recommend Dewalt or Bostitch's pneumatic brad or staplers. br>I'm going to return this nailer and get a refund. I'm going to buy something else.

It is not a long-lasting product
3/5

This product was purchased seven months ago and has only been used three times. The trigger stopped resetting and will no longer work while nailing in some trim. I dialed Dewalt's number and left a message. 800- 433- 9258, and they were initially helpful, offering to send me a mailing label so that it could be delivered to a service center. There was no label left after 30 minutes. I noticed they had dialed my cell phone and requested that I call them back because the representative had forgotten to ask for my home address. I tried calling them back for 30 minutes and was told the call could not be taken at this time; I also tried their chat line and waited 25 minutes to connect. The product was poor, and their customer service was even worse.

Air was pumped into the handle
3/5

Dewalt is a brand I really like. However, the first time I used this nail gun, it broke, and it wasn't until after Amazon's return deadline had passed. The nail gun's handle became clogged with air and began to leak.
