He's already working on Christmas gifts for the entire family!
Edit: I've been meaning to update this review for a while and finally got around to it. When I informed the seller that the lathe did not come with a push rod, they stopped responding. When turning a pen, the large (7") tool rest broke! A PEN! The threads on the tool rest carriage bolt are stripped because it is too short to allow for adjustment (tightening). I won't be able to replace the part with the bolt, so I'll have to weld it together. Overall, don't waste your money because the motor thermally shuts down several times per project.
The second lathe I received has a tailstock that fits snugly into the bed and is the same height off the bed as the headstock, allowing it to function normally. br>br>The manual isn't great, but if you go to grizzly dot com and look up the Shop Fox W1704, which appears to be the same lathe made in the same factory with upgraded locking handles and a different paint color scheme, you can get a better one. br>br>Please note that the lathe does not include item 21 (Small faceplate) from the parts drawing and parts list. In addition, the setup instructions in the manual call for three unknown-size bolts and washers to be screwed into the bottom of the lathe through the table top. The lathe does not come with these accessories. I may have to buy one of each possible bolt just to find out what I need because the lathe is too heavy to take to the hardware store to figure out which metric bolts will fit it. I'll update this as soon as I figure it out, if I remember. br>br>NOTE: THIS PAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED. Metric M8 x 1 (8mm diameter and 1mm per thread) bolts are required to fit the lathe's bottom.
It gets a one-star penalty for claiming to be a 230V lathe when it isn't. br>One star deducted for a broken tool rest (it comes mounted in the lathe and was most likely bumped during shipping; however, it was simple to fix). br>br>Be aware that the drive belt and the tension on the motor must be adjusted. br>br>Once you've got it dialed in, you'll be able to have a lot of fun turning wood. For a beginner, this is an excellent tool.
My setup can be seen in the photo. After reading your positive reviews, I decided to buy a lathe. As expected, it arrived on time. I bought this lathe to make blank fishing lures. It has a great cast iron construction and fantastic spindle runout. I've used it a couple of times now and am very happy with it. This is a lathe that I strongly recommend.
I've been using it for about 6 weeks and have had no issues with it; the only thing it lacks is the ability to reverse the chuck (which isn't a big deal). In conclusion, if you're looking for a mid-sized lathe at a reasonable price, this is it!.
This lathe did not meet my expectations. However, I am pleased to report that this lathe is extremely cool. This lathe has made me extremely happy. I'm using it to make hurl and resin dragon eggs, so there's plenty of powder. Some of them weigh between 3 and 4 pounds. I highly recommend this lathe because you can't go wrong for the price.
It's great; I'm using it to make fishing lures, and it's exactly what I needed and more.
This was purchased by my boyfriend in order to begin a new hobby and gain experience in woodworking. He's already figured out how to make cups, hair sticks, and a few other oddities. He describes it as "extremely simple to use" and "extremely relaxing. " The projects it can accommodate have some size restrictions- However, it does not take up a lot of garage space! - br>10/10 - br>10/10 - br>10/10 - br>10.
