Questions & Answers
The distance between the centers is 42 inches. This is the lathe I have, and I love it. There is no type of bed extension that I have found. To make it easier to work on bowls, the headstock can be moved down the bed and the tasilstock can be removed. Bill br>Bill br>Bill br>Bill br>Bill br>
There is no swiveling (or swinging) of the headstock. The headstock can be unlatched and slid all the way down to the far end of the bed. The oversize banks will then be able to extend past the lathe bed. A 22-inch blank can be swung over the bed of this lathe. The benefit is that the headstock and tailstock are never out of alignment. Shop Fox does not appear to offer an outboard tool rest. They are made by other companies as well. My W1852 is one of my favorites.
Selected User Reviews For Shop Fox W1852 Wood Lathe, 22" x 42"
The packaging was good, and there was no shipping damage, so the Shop Fox 1852 is nearly perfect. To assemble the parts by myself, I used a small lift (which is not advised). Only eight bolts were needed to complete the project. Four leveling assemblies needed to be adjusted as well. Because this is a large piece of equipment, I can see how shipping damage could be an issue. The lathe (which runs on 220 volts) started right up. I simply connected it to the power source. The variable forward/backward speed is one of my favorite features. I've been able to focus on my woodworking projects rather than worrying about equipment issues. br>br>In Tennessee, we're having a good time.
