Questions & Answers
I've never felt uncomfortable turning at 400 rpm because it's slow enough for my needs. Also, for what it's worth, I'm not a picky guy.
JWL is the code for my aircraft. 144VSK isn't capable of running backwards.
Yes, but use bolts or clamps to keep it in place.
It is up to you to make that decision. I bought it because of the price.

The lathe is excellent in and of itself. It's rock-solid and a blast to play. The indexing head is very useful to me. br>br>When putting the head stock together, I ran into some problems. The index plate had slipped out of its bushing, preventing it from resting properly on the table. WARNING: USE CAUTION. If you try to force the head down to the table, you risk damaging the bushing's soft material. I was able to turn the head stock upside down and reposition the index plate and bushing thanks to Customer Support's prompt assistance. It was difficult to turn it back over, but I managed it. I've managed to avoid a crisis and am now a contented turner!.
First and foremost, during the first week, the banjo cracked while outboard turning. Most likely because a minimum speed of 400 rpm is too fast for some projects. The machine vibrates all over the place as a result of this. In addition, the belt snapped in week two, and the speed control knob is a dreadful design. Save your money and invest in something that allows you to control the speed of your vehicle.
The only thing I don't care for is that the variable speed does not go low enough (400 rpm), which is insufficient for some applications. Aside from that, it's fantastic.
well made.
Just getting started with wood turning, and it was simple to set up and run right away; adjustments were simple to make, and the motor is much quieter than I expected.
As usual, Jet is fantastic and stands behind their product. I've been turning for six years and have only ever owned Jet lathes. However, if you order this from Amazon, do not go through Acme Tools because it arrived dented, with the tailstock dented and non-functional, as well as the wire box on the headstock sheared off. They have refused any partial refunds in excess of $500, which would not even cover the cost of parts. The only option they provide is a return and refund, which, based on customer feedback, does not always occur.
br>Easy to set up, despite its weight.
I also purchased the extension bed in order to turn large outboard wooden bowls. In every way, it's flawless. It's a huge improvement over the two green ones I've had previously. Jet is fantastic, and Amazon had it delivered to my shop via freight.
