You'll need a 7mm MT2 mandrel and some tools to get started. Ensure that the bushings and drill bit are included in your pen kit order. A buffing system may be required depending on how the pens are finished. Get a set of micro pads for acrylics because they really bring out the shine. I also use a "french polish" and shellac to give the finished product a long-lasting hard coat. Good luck, and have fun with the lathe.
Yes! It's just not available on Amazon. They cost around $150 at Rockler and Woodcraft.

I bought this for my husband, and although I have no idea what it is, he loves it. The day it arrived, I immediately took it to the basement and put it to use. I'm delighted that he's content.
For Christmas, my wife surprised me with a wood lathe. "TOOL TIME" and "HOME IMPROVEMENT" are two of her favorite shows. (Better, bigger, more powerful, and so on!) Thank you, but I returned the lathe because it was too expensive, too big, too heavy, too big to turn an oil drum, and too big to fit in my shop. I chose the Jet after conducting extensive research. It "turned out" to be precisely what I needed. The highlights include: I would highly recommend this lathe to anyone looking for this type of lathe because it is reasonably priced, ideal for new users, easy to operate, and of high quality construction. Caution: To get the most out of this machine, you'll need additional tools and accessories, which will cost at least as much as the lathe itself. BUT IT WILL BE WORTH IT!.
I purchased this lathe after conducting extensive research and am very pleased with my decision. I've used both variable-speed and fixed-speed lathes, and I don't miss the variable-speed feature at all. I have turned both wood and brass on this lathe without issue; the motor is plenty powerful. Changing speeds is quick and easy, and I rarely use more than 2 or 3 speeds on a single project. Overall, it fulfills all of my expectations for a wood lathe; I recommend it without reservation.
I began turning pens in September 2017 and have so far produced about 60 of them. It's a well-known fact. The only disadvantage of this lathe is that changing the RPMs requires shutting it down and resetting the belt to the desired speed. I would have chosen the Jet Variable Speed lathe in the same 1015 series if I had known better as a newcomer to the hobby. Overall, a fantastic product that, despite being more expensive than a beginner's lathe, delivers on its promises.
To reduce material to the desired size (soft or hard woods), you'll need to use medium speeds. The machine is on its own circuit, and the tools are razor sharp, but it will not cut, plane, peel, or scrape without bogging down or coming to a complete stop. I sliced it in half and returned it. The motor was making a loud hum, so it's possible I've had a problem with it from the beginning; I like the lathe, but the motor appeared to be severely underpowered! The machine was delayed for nearly 30 days due to COVID.
This lathe has been in use for about three weeks. So far, it's performed admirably and appears to be excellent value for money, making it ideal for beginners, particularly those looking to get into turning without spending a lot of money on a full-fledged machine. full-size or standard-sized a lathe that is highlighted It's simple to change the RPMs by adjusting the belt and pulleys. The only issue I have is that the ON/OFF switch on the lathe came with a broken plastic bezel. I contacted the dealer, and they have placed an order for a replacement part. This is a product that I can recommend.
It came highly recommended by friends and delivered on all of their promises. The machine is well-built and runs smoothly, making it ideal for turning pens and bottle stoppers.
It would be nice if it had a little more punch. It's well-made and performs admirably. I wish it had a bit more power, but it's adequate for making pins and other small items.
