Questions & Answers
Yes, a homemade item will fit in the stand. In fact, I would argue that a well-constructed homemade stand would be more durable than the Jet-made one. br>Here are a few things to think about when making your own stand.br>1. Is the display going to be portable or fixed? Mobile is convenient for cleaning and working in tight spaces, but it is less stable and susceptible to vibration. Stationary stands are far more stable and can be loaded with "dead weight," such as sand or concrete mix bags. These also have a vibration-reducing effect.
2. Height, weight, and mobility should all be factors to consider when building the stand. Think about lighting and tool storage as well. You can make angled tool holders in the front with pvc pipe by filling the bottom several inches with rigid foam or devising a way to create spray foam plugs, which will protect the tool edges as you slide them into the pipe.br>br>Hope this helps. I would strongly advise you to build your own stand, which you can customize to fit your specific space, needs, and budget.
Jet, I believe, sells a separate extension leg to accommodate the lathe bed extension. However, I only purchased the lathe and lathe bed extension, after which I constructed the stand for that combination. I'm sorry, but I'm unable to offer any additional assistance.
To save money, I constructed my own stand. It's about 5 feet long and holds the main piece as well as the extension piece. I also have it set low enough that when I stand up, the spindle is about elbow height.
Because I mounted the main part of my lathe on a stand from my previous lathe, I built a support extension for it. This lathe appears to be designed for bench use. I never looked to see if the main part or extension had a stand. Please accept my apologies for not being able to assist you further.

With some tweaking of the bolts attaching to the existing bed and the bolts attaching the far end of extension to the support leg, the casting was of good quality and lined up nicely with the existing lathe bed. With only a slight bump, the banjo and tailstock glide smoothly over the junction. When the bed and stand extensions are both fully extended, it feels solid. Caution: Make sure you get the right stand extension for your existing Jet 1221VS stand: there are two different stands for this model lathe, and the stand extensions must match the stand model you have; they are not interchangeable. The main lathe stand in the Amazon product photo for the bed extension is the 719202 stand, while the stand extension is Jet 719203. The only Jet stand extension available on Amazon is the Jet 719203A, which is designed to fit only the Jet 719202A stand and is made in a slightly different way, though both are very sturdy. I had to order the 719203 stand extension from somewhere else because Amazon didn't have it in stock. It's difficult to come across them. The 719203A appears to be available from the majority of vendors. I believe the Jet 719202/719203 stand/stand extension has been replaced by the Jet 719202A/719203A stand/stand extension, which is available on Amazon. The newer one was released in 2017, I believe. The Jet 1221VS, on the other hand, has only one bed extension, which makes things a little easier.
Everything about this lathe is as advertised, with the exception of the space between the spurs, which I could only use up to 20". The power is more than adequate for the lathe's size. The fit and finish are excellent, the lathe is quiet, vibration free due to the weight, and the machining is excellent. The extension I purchased adds to the value of the lathe because it fits cleanly and smoothly to the main section. I'd like to see Jet upgrade the yoke to a 1" tool holder receiver, allowing for a longer, wider rest. br> There are less expensive lathes on the market, some of which are larger, but after speaking with others, I chose the Jet 1221 because it has more power, cleaner machining, and a very smooth operation. It's something I'd buy again if the opportunity arose.
The extension was two days ahead of schedule and in perfect condition. In preparation for receiving the extension, I had already extended the work table on which the lathe is mounted. It was simple and quick to set up. The instructions are simple and straightforward, and the extension and lathe bed are perfectly aligned. Between the two, the tail stock and tool rest are easily interchangeable. I'm excited to take advantage of the substantial increase in bed capacity.
This is a bed extender, not a stand. My wife wanted to buy me a Jet Lathe stand for my birthday, but she bought me this instead. Because of their deceptive advertisement, we were forced to pay for return shipping.
The holes for mounting it to the lathe bed are misaligned, causing the bed extension to sit 3/32" below the level of the lathe bed. This indicates that the banjo is not moving smoothly across the juncture, and that the tailstock is out of alignment with the headstock. Because the mounting holes have no play, there is no way to fix this problem. They are not slotted, but are straight tapped. Worst of all, I attempted to purchase this lathe's stand, bed extension, and stand extension all at the same time. I got the bed extension and the stand extension, but until recently, the main stand was unavailable. I assembled everything, discovered the issue, and discovered that my deadline for returning this lemon and replacing it with one that lines up had passed about two weeks ago. When I try to contact the seller, I get Amazon's wacky messaging assistant, which just redirects me to the return page, where I'm told that this item isn't returnable. Essentially, I'm out $200 because I didn't trial fit the item sooner, but I believe in leaving everything boxed in its original packaging to avoid accidental breakage in a store (aside from a quick glance to confirm that you received the correct object). br>Jet produces excellent lathes, but this is a dismal performance. It's a shame, because this model would have offered the same amount of storage as their 1440 model.
The item arrived undamaged and appeared to be in good working order. Unfortunately, the bed extension was 1/4 inch off when I attached it to the lathe. The bed extension was taller than the lathe's bed. There is no way to change anything. Either the holes in the extension or the holes in the lathe are not aligned properly. I'm going to return the extension and try again, but if the problem is with the lathe, I won't be able to attach a bed extension. br>Without a hitch, I was able to return the bed extension. A new extension was delivered, but it did not match the previous one. This time I sat down far too low. Increased the size of the hole in the bed extension to 1/2 inch, but it's still not right. I've placed an order for larger drill bits. It's possible that the hole will have to be reduced to 3/4 inch. A larger washer is required, but with the locking washer, it should be possible to secure. I'm hoping the lathe movement doesn't cause any slippage. Factory milling left a lot to be desired.
I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with it, but it's a perfect fit. I finished in five minutes.
It's convenient to be able to move the tailstock out of the way. The additional spindle capacity of 20" is obviously beneficial as well. Excellent use of $200.
