Questions & Answers

The spindle is made of plastic, but can it be made of metal Can dollhouse miniature furniture be made with the same sort of legs, etc. seen on tables and chairs?

In certain circumstances, you can answer yes to your question. It is a very light machine that will be most useful if attached to a stable surface PROXXON 37020 DB 250 MICRO WOODTURNING LATHE is included with the PROXXON 37020 model. Additionally, it has a low torque and is constructed of light materials, and does not perform well when wood tuning bits are used on any material. You can achieve this task, however, if a soft wood is used, along with successively finer grits of sandpaper applied to the piece of wood. You can still use this lathe as long as you don't use hardwoods and you don't get hurried with it. Lastly, I have found this lathe to be just right for my applications and the micro-engineers at MICRO-EECH are absolutely wonderful!!! MarkMark is a very good company to do business

Is it large enough to hold a #2MT mandrel?

This lathe is equipped with a fitting that can hold collets up to 5/16 inches in diameter. In addition to the fitting, you can also use a 3 or 4 jaw chuck. The diameter of a #2MT mandrel is No, it wouldn't fit. It measures 9 inches in diameter, so I can't see how

What is the maximum size of the workpiece this lathe can handle? Could you recommend me a lathe that is at least adequate and can turn pens and spindles made of hardwood wood?

As long as you stay within the limitations of this micro lathe, you can turn hardwood spindles. A small turning for ship models and other very small turnings can be made with this machine. It works well for milling masts, spars, and other small turnings for small parts. Work such as pens, knobs, small candlesticks, seasonal ornaments and spindles of a similar size requires a mini lathe such as the Jet or Rikon that is better suited to this larger task. A mini lathe comparable to this Proxxon micro is also available, but they are larger and more robust. The mini lathe uses the same miniature tools you would use on the micro, and they may be cheaper

What is the height from base (floor) to the center of the ?

I would like to talk about I am 25 inches tall. Having said that, a micro lathe is made very small, and due to the available chucks, the motor's relatively low speed, and the mechanism securing the tool rest, the size of a workpiece is even smaller than it appears from a measurement. Furthermore, the lathe is so light that its weight or security must be secured to it. A board of oak I bought at a home improvement store served as my board. Here's an Amazon link to the Nova Comet II, a bench top lathe you can use to make stuff<extra_id_9> it's big enough to make stuff on. A friend of mine has one and he loves it so much!

I was looking for something that would suit my needs
4/5

I find this to be a very good value for the price, and the expected use is great. It provides a convenient way for me to hold custom mandrels for polishing jobs. In this case, a tailstock is necessary. It would have been nice if some of the adjustments were a little easier (the thumbscrews can be tough on your fingers) but all in all, I'm satisfied with my purchase My overall experience has been excellent. To see if I could turn a dowel, I decided to turn a small piece of wood just for the fun of it. It is difficult to perfectly center your shot (a centre-to-center shot is one of the challenges There is a 3-month trial available that includes the finder) and I'd strongly suggest checking it out You might want to consider getting a jaw chuck if you intend to use it primarily. In accordance with what other reviewers have pointed out, the tool rest is incredibly small. It means you have to move it around a lot for anything long, but it also means you can work on very short items more easily. I'm sure an even longer one could be made without a lot of.

An updated review has been published
4/5

An updated review is available Although I previously gave the tool a negative review, I have since had time to pay more attention to it. As of now, it appears to be going well. The wood I’ve used for turning includes stabilized wood and a few other pen blanks. Having updated my " Star " rating, I now have " 4 stars" instead of 5 stars. This is a review from many years ago The rest of a sloppy machined tool Box is filled with loose parts and the rest of the lathe has a few minor dings. A great deal of action occurs with tail stocks. On the website listed for their support service, furniture is for sale.

This lathe is fantastic--does a lot of work, has a great name, and its very affordable
5/5

Micro lathes like this are great. As soon as we saw the lathe, we were blown away by how quiet and fast it This is a great product. The lathe has been used by my son for turning miniature dollhouse vases, bowls, plates, cups, etc. He is able to use it inside without making a lot of noise. We use it with the jaw chuck that fits this lathe. You may also.

This is perfect
5/5

Miniature lathe designed beautifully and constructed superbly. It was too small for what I needed to use it for, so it was returned, but it is of top quality and workmanship. No problem. Plugging it into a computer and running it was fine. It is smooth and free of vibrations throughout the range of RPM.

This is an excellent lathe for beginners
4/5

My favorite thing about this lathe is its versatility. Despite its good blanche and low vibration, it has a good feel. Solidity is a hallmark of the tool bed. Easily adjustable and stable, the live center holds up I like the tool support as it is easy to set up and convenient. Using the speed control you can adjust between hard and soft woods and thick and thin workpieces without affecting the quality. I found this lathe to be very well made.

It is a good machine
4/5

During the holidays, I was looking for miniature wooden ornaments, and I kept thinking that I could make my own if I had a lathe. It has great features for small objects, so I am glad I came back to this model after passing over others. I had never heard of this brand before, so I passed it over because I had never heard of it before. Furthermore, the product is compact, packaged in a box measuring about 20x6x4 inches, which I appreciate since I don't plan on keeping it in the garage for the entire a lot of It took me just two columns of the booklet to read the entire operating instructions regarding woodturning, and I had no idea what I was doing. As well as the wording, the parts can be confusing, such as when they refer to the same part as a "check key" at one point but as a "centering (sic) key" at In addition, the tool rest is described as having a "knurled screw," but there is nothing sharp about it. I forgot to mention that knob on that tool rest gets in the way of your chisel a lot, and that it is only 2 3/8" long, so you sometimes have to stop to slide it over. odd size of the collet chucks on this lathe may be explained by the fact that the machine comes from Europe 15/64, 7/64, 5/32, 5/16, and 13/32 are made up of 5/64, 7/64, 5/32, and 5/32. These are close to where you are. Several sizes of dowel can be turned, but if you want to turn something smaller than 3/16 or 1/4 inch, the chucks won't hold it. There is a "drive spike" included for dowels too large for the chucks, but to hold it in the drive spindle, you have to use the 13/32" collet, which isn't in any of the directions. For now, I have temporarily disposed of the lathe, and instead ordered a Proxxon three jaw chuck that is designed to handle dowels ranging in thickness from 1/16 inch to around one inch thick, but it costs a bunch more than I was planning on. In the same vein, if you are starting out like me, you will It's a Proxxon set, and even though they're made in China, they seem to work well, especially on birch dowels. In addition to the book, I bought "Learn to Turn," and I hope that my further expenses will be limited to wood in the following months.
