Questions & Answers

The 9" model of the ABC is 380y, the catalog number before that was 379C. What if you wanted to use this kit for those purposes as well?

Thanks for taking the time to ask a question! It would be around the early to mid 1930's before the workshop series of lathes came out due to the catalog number 380Y. It is a substantially different design, so this kit would be less useful to you since the earlier lathes used very little felt and did not have There are some sections of the manual that could prove useful for general rebuilding, but we cannot claim that it would be an instruction manual for your lathe in particular. Alternatively, you can order the manual by itself on Amazon without purchasing I wish you all the best,

What would this look like on a 10?

I do not intend to use this kit for the South Bend 10K, which was only made for the 9" ABC.

It was before I knew that the kit was available that I purchased the book separately. Do I have to buy the book with the kit?

This unit works well and is made of high quality components. It requires only a few minutes to read the manual that comes with the kit, which is a great tool in its own right. Even someone new to disassembling and refreshing lathes will find it easy to understand.
