the first one of this size I've ever used, previously I've only used benchtop The reason I decided to buy the Grizzly was that I did a lot of research before I bought another model. Please note
You can control the speed very well with the speed control. Having a variable frequency drive on a lathe is so convenient, and I've never owned one before. Using the first gear setting, I can get speeds ranging from 50rpm to over 2000rpm. This is probably all I ever need. As well as giving real-time rpm information, the digital readout also does that. I like how heavy it is. A really effective way to dampen vibration when you first turn it on and when you have an Please note
Controls are easy to use. Above the speed knob there is a selector that allows you to move forwards, neutrally, and backwards. It really comes into its own when hollowing so that you don't have to reach out over the ways to get into the near side. Hollowing in reverse usually takes me a few hours to get used to, but once I got the hang of it, I got used to it. In addition to sanding, reverse is quite useful. Please note
The price is higher than other machines with comparable quality, functionality, and size. *Pros Please note
At low speeds, there is a low torque. An example of such a machine is a variable frequency drive (i. e. With a speed control lathe, such as this one), there will be a substantial reduction in torque output when it is at The spindle can be stopped with your bare hands if the spindle rotates below 400rpm and if you use too aggressive of a cut, the spindle will bite and stop if it is moving higher This was known to me before I purchased the lathe, and I still managed to rough out my blanks just fine. The headstock is now equipped with a hand wheel. On all the other lathes I've used, there was a wheel on the outer side of the headstock that allowed you to rotate the spindle manually. For whatever reason, Grizzly did not include one. As much as I enjoy doing it, it is odd and a bit annoying if you like switching between spur centers and chucks often. When threading chucks on or off, the indexing pin must be used to lock the spindle in place. Please note
It is impossible for the live center to knockout the tailstock automatically. Grizzly did not offer this feature for its lathe, a feature I've had on smaller machines before. In order to remove the live center, you have to use the knockout tool. Overall, I like this lathe a lot and I'll probably have it for a long time. I love how it works. Despite the things I listed as cons, this purchase was not enough to turn me away from it. As far as I'm concerned, it does all that I need it to.
The two of you need to be strong. It was later that I realized the motor and other end of the wiring slide off, so I could have done it To help, it is better if you have two people. your toes to be crushed.
So far, this has been a fantastic tool. A very good feature is the ability to reverse directions and to vary the speed. It will be easier for me later on, as I am a newbie.
Having built three lathes, this one is my third. Ultimately, I will be turning this lathe for the last time. The program performs well in every area. Sturdy and heavy, it is made of metal. It remains stable even if the bowl blank is out of balance. It has a great feature, too, which is the fact that you can set it to neutral for a short while, inspect your work, then turn it back to forward to get the machine moving again. A machine that costs much more often does as well as this one. You should check out a video on youtube comparing it to a Jet lathe.
It had to be returned before it could even be A part of it was damaged en route. Because the company did not have a replacement, we went directly to Grizzly to purchase one. Our experience with Grizzly products has been excellent.
