Questions & Answers

Can I order more than one at a time?

On the way home, I consumed one of the six I had. Drills from TX, six in a pack.

What is the tilt of the table when boring angled?

You can loosen and rotate the table with a wrench, but it requires some effort.

Can you tell me how tall the column is?

There are two drill chucks in this Jet 716000 drill press The column is 1/2 inch in diameter.

The table slots on this press do not fit hold downs. Is there any way to reposition them? Would hardware such as hold downs be useful?

If you want to hold it down, a carriage bolt will do the job.

The jet JWDP – In the match 12, WEN 4214 defeated 12
3/5

There is no such thing as the same thing. The reason why I only gave it 3 stars is because I have only had it for one day, and thus am not able to assess it fairly. originally bought a WEN 4214, but the one I received was defective. I have a project with maple and hard walnut and will be using a 1-inch 1/4" lathe. Bit forstner 1/4" in diameter. I needed to use my fire extinguisher on my first use of the WEN. The motor overheated and started smoking, so I used In the meantime, I was waiting for the WEN return to be processed when I went down to the store and bought In my shop, I have both of them side by side As I review the similarities and differences, I will highlight some of them. The smaller parts are probably manufactured in the same factory since many of them are the same. That includes things such as the wrenches, the column, the base, etc. , but the working parts are totally different, and I am more interested in those. There are a lot of differences between the two tables. In contrast, the Jet table is made of a much stronger cast iron with an extremely different tripod design Accessories can be mounted in the slots. I feel that the Jet's chuck is also more robust, but the motor is what makes the biggest difference to me. In spite of the fact that WEN talks about their motor as having 3/3 HP, Jet says it has 1/2 HP. I give Jet the better rating. While the WEN clearly was not up to the job drilling the 1-inch-diameter hole in my maple and hard walnut project, the Jet did the job perfectly. There are 1/4" holes in the cylinder. Neither the appearance nor the sound of the motors is the same. It ran very quietly and smoothly right out of the box on the WEN, but it made an odd clicking noise on the Jet. It is possible that they have very different internals, such as bearings, but I do not possess the tools to confirm this. Additionally, it is likely that their brains are Due to the difference in actual low and high speed that I am able to get while plugged into a 25 foot, 20 amp extension cord. They might perform better if directly plugged into the outlet instead of through an extension cord, but I cannot verify this. It is worth it for me to pay the premium because of the customer support provided by Jet. I had no response from WEN customer support and I have dealt with Jet before, so I trust their support.

Despite being the best value for the money, it is not without its flaws
3/5

I love machine tools and designing tooling, so let's start there. It was possible for me to correct the problems I found, but not everyone will be able to. There were two factors contributing to the warping of the cast baseplate. It was necessary to grind the 4 "feet" in the casting to fix this problem, using the machined surface in place as a guide. The variable pulley mechanism had been difficult to adjust and was unable to produce the full range of RPM's advertised in the advertisement. As I KNOW more about how these systems work, I was able to properly disassemble and correct lube the moving parts in a manner that prevented any lube migration to the belt. This is not something 95% of buyers would be able to do correctly in their absence. Now, I have the full (and even better) rpm range advertised. I can also adjust the speed much more easily Although there is a slight wobble with the chuck, I plan to replace it with one with better stability. A small drill diameter will limit your precision, and this would be a problem. Be careful not to overdo it It is crucial that you tighten the black knobs on the spindles or the variable speed lever, as they can An overall good press for the money, but it would have been faster to make it work if simply a few clicks could have been made.

This bench top model is very heavy and very solid
5/5

It arrived in good shape, was well packaged, and was protected by foam inserts to ensure safe delivery.
We have accounted for every part. A light oil is applied to prevent rust. It is easy to put together. In the early part of the week, I looked at a Sears model. There was a nice table with holes and slots on it. Having clamps and other equipment bolted to the table would have been more convenient. The fact Jet had a television wasn't apparent to me A slot. A set will have to be purchased. (This isn't an issue. The oil moat around the table is nice and makes clamping much easier and more versatile. I may drill and tap some holes in the table to make it more versatile. We will find it easier to clean with this. I am quite pleased with my purchase, all in all. Several people reported that the digital readout stayed on all the time. My experience is that by turning on the light and then turning it off, the readout switches off also.

A 'Friday' build must have been sent to me
3/5

As a result, the table cannot be set at a 90 degree angle to the vertical support pipe (and thus It is also the clamp that locks and unlocks the table vertically, as well as the mechanism for allowing the table to rotate around the vertical support pipe, so when you loosen the clamp to elevate or lower the table, the entire assembly may rotate out of position. A long hole can be a pain in the ass when you're trying to bore it. In the end, the hokey laser guide cannot be adjusted so that the cross-section of the target is not in the shadow of the chuck unless you set the vertical position of the crossover far below the tip of the cutting The steaming pile of chinesium would have been returned after the first week of purchase if purchased locally.

You get a lot of press for your At this price, exactly what I was looking for
5/5

I mainly use hardwood presses and 1/4" or less hot rolled steel presses. For these, this is the perfect press. When I try to use a dial indicator with a magnetic base, The top of the arbor has a diameter of 001 runout. On the shaft of a chucked Freud forstner bit is number 002. There is a great deal of control over the speed of the build. There's only one small flaw the table requires T nuts instead of through bolts, but this allows you to drill metal while the cooling system operates. Although the chuck is great, it has some metal cuttings that I wouldn't have expected to find inside the chuck Its functioning is not affected by these. One of the nicks on the arbor was large enough to catch my fingernail (pic), but did not have a significant impact on the Even though I would love a $2k drill press, the $1600 that this press will give me'll suffice for my purposes.

This is a large piece of work
5/5

It was important for me to have a drill press that I could move when not in use. Weight-wise, the jet weighs 90 pounds and you can forget about it unless you are a weightlifter. Then I must mention how big it is. Even so, a friend of mine who is a woodworker thinks Jet is the best. So, if you have a place for it, it could be a great purchase.
