On a stovetop, for example? No! Because it is made of plastic, it will melt or burn. Also, I'm not aware of any building codes that would allow a range hood to have a 2" exhaust. Just putting it out there.
I'm not sure, but I think I can do it.

This is of no use to anyone. We purchased one to convert our 5" dust collector hose to 4" in order to fit our saw's port (with the intention of purchasing several more for our other tools that do not have 5" ports). The first issue was that it would not connect to the 5" hose! It's useless if you can't connect it to your hose. We then attempted to connect it to the smaller ports, but none of them would accept it. As a result of its inability to connect to the hose or any of our other tools, this is a useless piece of plastic for us. We would have returned it if we hadn't already cut it down to size. If you still want to buy it after reading this review, test fit it on both ends to make sure it will fit your needs before cutting it down to size.
It's useless because it's not designed to fit over the 4" dust exhaust on my machines (all steps are equal, not under or over so they'll fit in or on). The smallest end allows a shop vac small hose (1 1/8od x 7/8" I'd) to slip over it, but neither will they fit their own assortment of dust pickups. The problem is that you've now reduced the pickup to 3/4 of its original size, which is insufficient for any chips and only suitable for dust.
The space size, on the other hand, is quite large, so don't expect to be able to avoid using step spacing in your calculations.
I bought this to make my dust collector's 5 inch port into a 4 inch port. This was the only product that could handle sizes larger than 4 inches that I could find. It does not fit in either the inside or the outside of the building. I put it through its paces on my three-speed planer. I tried a 5 inch port and got the same result; the sizes are just different enough that I couldn't find a good fit. This product would be fantastic if it were made of rubber so that it could be squeezed onto the machine using a hose clamp. I'm sure I'll be able to put it to good use at some point.
This reducer is suitable for the majority of hoses and applications but it isn compatible with all of the different sizes of hoses used in dust collection systems. It won't fit on my 1 1/4-inch power tool hose, for example. "Duct tape, on the other hand, solved the problem!.
It's now possible for me to connect my vacuum cleaner to it.
good.
I should have read the instructions more carefully - This thing is a lot bigger than I anticipated (imagine a Devo hat). I gave it three stars because it is made of rigid plastic (rather than flexible rubber) and does not appear to fit any of my dust ports.
