Selected User Reviews For POWERTEC 70234 2-1/2" Pipe Coupling, Clear
This system was purchased and set up by myself. Be aware that EVERY fitting/tube must be connected with multiple couplings. Because all tube and fitting ends are the same diameter, a coupling is required at every joint. This appears to be a poor example of engineering and design - Because every end of the fittings required a coupling, it appears that the couplings could have been molded into the ends of the fittings when they were manufactured. The kit includes 22 couplings, which is sufficient to outfit only the fittings included in the kit, but not enough to join/extend any tubes or use with any additional fittings you may order separately. I needed to add a y- to my list. fitting, which also necessitated the purchase of three additional couplings (the total cost of outfitting just one y-frame was nearly $40). due to the three couplings that are also required, each of which costs $9! In addition, the 90-degree elbow fittings included in a 2-pack are not usable. Because of their design, they are compatible with a 1/2" system. The inside bend of the 90 degree fitting is molded in such a way that the radius is removed, limiting airflow to about an inch (poor design/engineering). Who wants to put in a two-tiered security system? Only to be limited to 1" at every 90 degree elbow with a 1/2" system? I had to use a Dremel tool and a half-hour of my time to complete the project. To open up the passageway even more, use a round rasp to route out the inside of every 90-degree fitting. I recommend carefully planning your system and budgeting for couplings, fittings, and other components that are specific to your requirements. If you have a large system, ordering two of these kits could save you a lot of money over buying extra fittings and couplings. Finally, I'd like to express my gratitude for everything that you've done for me. The extra fittings I ordered separately all came with large permanent stickers that were applied directly to the end of the fitting where they needed to be joined. It was the worst place to put a sticker, and the worst kind of sticker to remove (it took an eternity). Hopefully, the manufacturer will either move these to a different location or change the sticker material to something that is easier to remove. Thank you for taking the time to listen to my story - I hope things are going well for you!.
Just finished installing a Jet 12 HP Vortex Dust Collector to connect a Ridgid Table Saw, Ridgid Sliding Miter Saw, Wen Planer, Bosch Router Table, and Ryobi Sander. I agree with one of the other reviewers that this is a poorly designed system in that you need a connector at every junction instead of fittings like plumbing PVC where the pipes go into the fittings, but every other system I looked at had the same problem. The system is now complete and working properly after much frustration. br>Here are some of the issues I discovered:
1. The couplings are extremely tight, making it difficult to connect the fittings to the pipe, particularly for the blast gatesbr>2. The first fitting to connect to the dust collector is a 90 elbow, as shown in the illustration. DO NOT USE THE KIT'S ELBOWS (there are two of them). It also shows that the Y Connector for each machine is lower than the main pipe. I followed the illustration and it worked fine when I was using a tool that produced mostly saw dust, but the first time I used the Planer, the larger shavings clogged up at the 90 and the shavings that backed up fell into the Y connectors in the other hook ups between the planer and the 90 degree fitting. I had to remove the 90 and replace it with two 45's, as well as turn the Y fitting pointing up to prevent clogging, and it appears to work fine. I'm not sure why they included two 90's because they are useless because the inside diameter of the 90 shrinks at the bend where the two 45's are installed. The value of s remains constant.
3. To connect each tool, I purchased the Powertec Anti Static Flexible PVC Dust Collection Hose. It was significantly more expensive than the standard hose, and it was more difficult to connect to the fittings and the machine; if I had to do it again, I would simply purchase the standard hose, which works perfectly. br>Conclusion: This is the most cost-effective method of getting the system up and running. Most other kits from other vendors may appear to be less expensive, but they do not include the pipe, which costs around $10 for a 3' piece. 00, making the pipe alone worth $80 in this set. Extra blast gates and Y connectors are inexpensive, so it's a no-brainer. . . do the math. My setup is working well for me, and I would recommend it to other small businesses.
I mistakenly assumed that purchasing a kit would be a simple way to save time and money, but I was completely wrong. The blast gates are the most important part of a kit like this, despite the fact that the piping and connectors are nice. Even after a month of use, two of the five blast gates are still not fully closed. Because they only offer a 30-day warranty, this effectively renders the entire system useless. So my advice is to not buy this kit; you can do it for a lot less money by just buying regular 2 inch pipe, and to stay away from any of their blast gates products. They're cheaply made, and when they get clogged with dust, they don't close all the way. This kit has five gates, and when two of them are already broken and don't close all the way, the system's ability to function properly is severely limited. So, my final piece of advice is to stay away from Powertec, this particular kit, and the blast gates sold separately. br>br>UPDATE: br>With the exception of one blast gate, all of the blast gates are now malfunctioning. One of them had broken apart, so I had to re-assemble it. the unit should be glued The others are clogged to the point of impossibility of closing. It appears that I will break them all open to remove the impacted dust, clean them, and then install a small bolt and nut in each corner so that when they clog again, which they will, I will be able to open them and clean them. You can avoid this product, as well as any others produced by this company.
There are two issues with this item: br>br>1 - If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, try using the words "innov During the installation process, it cracked. When *snap*, the hose clamp had just about reached its maximum tightness. Fracture at the hairline.
2 - I will continue to give this company a one-star rating on all of their products until they get their head out of their asses when it comes to advertising sticker placement. Tubes for vacuum systems are what you do. DO NOT APPLY NON-REMOVABLE STICKERS TO PIPE FITTINGS. For the love of God, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has told you this.
