Questions & Answers

Is there a 1/4" shank on this bit?

This bit is made with a 1/2" shank and would be too big for a 1/4" shank. The 13166q (1/2" radius) is our largest radius in 1/4" shank.

What is the difference between Yonico and Freud router bits?

I can't speak for Freud router bits, but many customers have told us that Yonico bits are just as good as Freud bits.

Will these be able to be used on a Shaper?

In an ideal world, you'd want to be able to run these much faster than a shaper. They can be used in a shaper, but the feed rate will need to be adjusted. However, cutting at the recommended speeds, which a shaper will not be able to do, is more efficient.

Is it possible to set this bit so that it only produces a round over profile with no beads on either side?

Simply replace the bearing with a 1/2" one. You can also buy a 1/2" bearing version of the same bit. 13162q is the number for that Yonico item.

What you pay for is exactly what you get
3/5

You get what you pay for, but let me expand on that. I've used a variety of router bits of varying quality over the last three decades as a woodworker. The Yonico bit is a mid-range to low-end bit that will get the job done if you use it carefully and patiently. They aren't top-of-the-line bits that will leave a much smoother edge, but you'll have to pay at least twice as much for those. I needed the bit to round over the corners of a white ash blanket chest, and I knew I'd have to do some hand sanding anyway, so the Yonico came in handy. Anyone who has worked with white ash knows how easily it chips when put through the paces of a router unless they are patient and know when to 'work in reverse. ' I avoided chipping by making several shallow cuts and ended up with a good-enough edge that only required a little sanding. I would have spent the money on a much better bit and skipped the Yonico if the design was more complicated than a round over bit. I had no qualms about using this bit because it was a simple round over bit, knowing that I would have to do some touch-up sanding to finish the job.

The blade and the bearing do not line up
3/5

Maybe I'm not using the router correctly—I've only recently started using one—but it appears that the bearing and blades on the bit I'm using aren't aligned. This subtracts about 1/32" from the bearing side of what you're routing. Check out the images. The right hand side of the blade is not vertically aligned with the bearing, as can be seen. I suppose I could sand that ridge down, but I was hoping for a smoother finish, especially given the positive feedback. My return period ended on May 27th, unfortunately. However, I was able to test it on some scrap wood, which was fortunate. However, for me, the bit is practically useless.

My 'Red' Bits are nearly as good as mine
5/5

I completed the routing of a 3/4-inch thick piece of wood. inch radius on 110 feet of birch, excellent surface finish, and no tear-out out. When routing a 3/4-inch cable, you must use common sense. In order to achieve the final dimension, I used a router table and five passes. Even if you use a high-quality bit, a large cut will result in a poor surface and tear out, so you must choose between going slowly or spending a lot of time filling and sanding. I've been working with wood for almost 50 years, and his bit is just as good as my'red' bits. It is something I strongly suggest.

Right out of the box, it performs as if it's been used a lot
3/5

I bought this router bit because it was the only one in a 5/16" radius that I could find. Because the quality appeared to be good, I installed it in my Bosch router table. I switched it on and slid a piece of straight-cut paper through it. Instead of a perfect clean edge, I got one with mini-grain Hemlock across. Chip outs and grain that has been raised This is usually a sign that the carbide isn't backwards compatible. It's either that the bit is very dull or that it's been ground fine enough to clear behind the cutting edge. It simply slides across my finger nail when I scrape the edge of the carbide across it. When you do that with a good sharp carbide, it "catches. " To use this bit for the project I'm working on, I'll either have to spend a lot of time sanding the edges I need to run, or I'll have to send it to a sharpener and pay more than the bit cost to have it re-sharpened. sharpening br>br>At this time, I'm afraid I can't recommend this section. The majority of buyers appear to be happy with this brand's quality, so I can't say that none of their products are of poor quality. However, the one I own is useless because- is used for the purpose it was created for.

This is an excellent router bit
5/5

Yonico 13171-1 is a one-of-a-kind Yonico product. The 1/2" Radius Round Over Router Bit has a length of 15 inches. Steel, carbide, and yellow enamel glory weigh in at 5 ounces. br>br>I'm currently constructing an all-electric vehicle. For my wife, I built a redwood potting shed with a fold-out table. potting table that has been raised Because I'm not using any metal hardware in the potting shed's construction (no nails, screws, or metal hinges), I wanted the table pivot point to be sturdy. As a result, I went with a radius of one kilometer. 1/2" to ensure there was enough material around the wooden hinge pin to support the table's weight and whatever was placed on it. I considered belt sanding, using various power saws, routing with a smaller radius, and combining all of the aforementioned methods to get a gentle radius to the top edge of the table near the pivot point. In the end, I could see the outcome being less than pleasing to the eye. I decided to use a large router bit to route the radius, and after some research and reading reviews, I decided on the Yonico 13171 1-inch router bit. Router Bit with a 1/2" Radius Round Over. I chose this brand based on a number of factors, including my previous experience with it (see below), other reviews, and price point. I clicked the "Add to Cart" button and waited for my new router bit to arrive. It arrived in an Express Delivery envelope within three business days, thanks to the US Postal Service. The router bit was also wrapped in a layer of flexible corregated cardboard before being securely taped shut. The router bit is kept (barely) contained. Yonico's standard soft plastic pouch (it's a big bit) I looked over the packaging and router bit for any signs of damage from the shipping process. The router bit was pristine, with no nicks or cracks, and the packaging was in perfect condition. br>br>When you're three, This router bit, which measures 1/2" in diameter, commands respect when it comes to ensuring that your router is set to the proper speed. If things go wrong, it has the potential to cause serious injury to both the body and the equipment. In my Bosch RA1171 router table, I have a Bosch 1617EVS. The Bosch 1617EVS router manual (page 15) is ambiguous about the specific speed setting, stating a range of 8,000-10,000 RPM. 13,500- For "Nonferrous metals, larger diameter bits, and cutters," set the dial to 16,500 (dial settings 1, 2, and 3). The PrecisionBits are a collection of precision bits. Bit diameters of 2 mm are recommended on the com site. 3/8" - 1/2" 1/2" has an 8,000 RPM maximum speed. 12,000 revolutions per minute. Given those considerations, as well as the nature of the wood and the amount of material to be removed, I chose 8,000 RPM as a safe bet. br>br>I tossed the bit, adjusted the height, put on my Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and fired up the router. NOTE: You won't be using any of the plastic router table inserts on the Bosch RA1171 Router Table. The bit's diameter just _fits_ into the router mounting plate's opening. Check that the opening on your mounting plate can accept a 3-inch bit before you buy it. router bit with a diameter of 1/2" br>br>ADDITIONALLY, PLEASE NOTE: Because the outside edge of the bit would make contact with the fence facing, I had to completely remove the RA1171 router table fence. I could have built a sacrificial fence and SLOWLY routed a zero-degree path through it. I could have made a clearance opening by simply removing the fence and all featherboards from the table top and making sure my fingers were out of harm's way. Yes, it was extremely dangerous, but it all worked out in the end. br>br>I wanted to make sure the speed was correct, so I cut some scrap redwood to test it out. I created a few slow-moving videos. To remove material gently, feed shallow cuts. I then repeated the process on the project stock once I was satisfied. Yonico 13171-1 is a one-of-a-kind Yonico product. The 1/2" Radius Round Over Router Bit performed admirably on every cut and remained razor-sharp after more than a dozen 22"-long cuts. If you're doing a long run, make sure you use a backing board, as tear-resistant paper can be difficult to work with. It's significant to be out on an unbacked board, whereas a fully-backed board isn't. The cut was perfect thanks to the backed board. Using 220-grit sandpaper, do some light hand sanding. grit sandpaper on the project stock, the end result was a very smooth and graceful 1-inch thick veneer. 1/2" roundover with a lovely fold-over potting table that has been raised What matters most is that my wife is _extremely_ pleased. I bought the Yonico 17702 Professional Quality Router Bit Set, the Yonico 15133 Drawer Front Joint Router Bit, and the Yonico 14522 5 Bit Straight/Dado Router Bit Set. All of the bits from these sets that I've used so far have performed admirably, so I recommend these router bits to any weekend woodworker or home hobbyist looking for affordable router bits that perform just as well as more expensive bits. Yonico router bits, in my opinion and experience, are not "one-size-fits-all. " As I've seen in other reviews, there are some "time use" bits. Yonico router bits will last a long time if they are used and cared for properly. br>br>With that said (or written in this case), Yonico router bits are excellent for short-term or infrequent use. Upgrade to one of the more reputable manufacturers if you find yourself using a specific profile more frequently or if you use router bits for professional purposes. Thank you, Yonico! br>br>.

Does a good job
5/5

I've been using this bit for a few months now, and it's fantastic. It's something I use on a regular basis. I have a battery-powered router, which works well, but I wish I had a plug-in router. The cuts aren't as sharp as they are when the speed slows due to battery drain. The bit, on the other hand, has no such issue. I only required one bit, and this appeared to be the one that would work. It has, in fact. Thanks.
