Can you tell me how big the shank is?

An impressive 1/2" diameter is found on the shank.

Is it possible to remove the bearing in order to cut a cove in the wood's center?

It is possible to remove the bearing but cutting would be impossible because of the shaft where it is mounted. If you need to cut a large cove, I suggest using the Amana Tool ball tip router bits.

The store offered a bit that was cheaper than one without a bearing. In order to match the cove on drawer fronts, I tried to use the same material. I was able to accomplish everything I needed with it.
