Questions & Answers

Is it capable of chopping through galvanized steel?

Yes, galvanized steel can be cut with this tool. One thing to keep in mind is that the gases released by the zinc are extremely harmful to your health, so make sure you have adequate ventilation and wear a mask to avoid inhaling the fumes.

Is it possible to cut four rebars with this blade?

It'll slicing through butter like a knife.

I need to cut a 1" case hardened steel shaft - what should I do? Hardness ranges from C60 to. Depth of 08" Is this a functional blade?

It will cut your shaft, but it may do so by burning through one or two disks. If you're cutting a lot of hard shafts, a chop saw with a 12" to 14" blade would be better.

Is it possible to use these with my Oster cable drill? If so, how big should the arbor be?

The arbor on the disc is 7/8". I believe you meant to type 'Porter Cable,' but in any case, I don't believe a drill has enough rpms, and you won't be protected by a grinder shield. You don't want to hurt yourself, so be careful and good luck.

Selected User Reviews For DEWALT Cutting Wheel, General Purpose Metal Cutting, 4-1/2-Inch, 5-Pack (DW8062B5)

I received the incorrect item and am unable to return or exchange it using Amazon's services! HELP! This product, the 4-pack, was ordered by me
3/5

My grinder came with a 1/2-inch cutting wheel, but I got a 6-inch cutting wheel instead. I don't have a grinder that big, or I'd keep them and place another order. I attempted to return or send something back using this website, but it would not allow me to do so. Although it states that the item is not returnable, I see that it comes with a 30-day warranty. I'm at a loss because I can't get in touch with anyone who can explain the simple mix-up. All I need is the correct size, and I'll gladly return these and change my review. The other Dewalt product that came with it is fantastic and performs admirably. I require assistance!.

These are the best value for money. They last a long time; I mostly cut 3/16 angle iron, so one disk will last anywhere from 25 to 30 cuts, depending on how hard you use it. *****Update**** The first disk lasted a long time, but the last two have only lasted about 7 minutes each. 10 cuts I'm not sure what's up, but if this keeps up, I won't be buying them again.

HFT's are far superior
5/5

I'd had it with HFT's cheapo cutting discs, which seemed to wear out quickly and occasionally shatter or splinter if the cut wasn't perfectly aligned. To see if it made a difference, I decided to splurge and buy something with a name brand sticker. It does! These will easily last twice as long as the previous ones and will also cut faster. So far, there hasn't been a single one that has shattered These are something I'll continue to buy.

They cut metal, that's for sure
5/5

I'd only been here a few months and had finally gotten around to moving a pile of rocks that had been in my mowing path for months. I discovered a foot-long spike protruding straight up from the ground in the middle of the pile during the process, and after about a half-hour of wrestling with it, I understood why the previous owner decided to pile rocks around it. They didn't have access to an angle grinder, most likely. After a quick trip to Amazon, these puppies arrived within two prime days. My spike had been cut below ground level after thirty seconds of a spark show. There's nothing like having the right tool for the job to get the job done!.

There is no need to be concerned
4/5

They're a little thicker than standard disks, but they last a little longer. Steel that is 1/8" thick is like butter, and steel that is 1/4" thick is like frozen butter. The number of revolutions per minute (RPMs) is important. If you go too slowly, it will wear out faster and produce chunky debris. Never exceed the maximum RPM recommended by the manufacturer.

Cuts quickly! These wheels slashed through the butter like a hot knife
5/5

I do a lot of fabrication, but one of my favorite things to do is repurpose old steel into new products. This means I spend a lot of time dismantling things (and occasionally correcting errors!). ) and these wheels are the quickest I've come across. They wear out at the same rate as any other blade, but they seem to cut faster and faster, which is a good thing. These will not let you down.

Cutting wheel that is both quick and effective
5/5

Metal bolts are easily cut through. Unlike a portable grinding disk, it grinds extremely quickly. I first tried a grinding disk, but the bolt end got so hot that it melted the nylon on the nylon insert locking nuts; this, on the other hand, did the job in about a minute. I was chopping off the heads of 38" zinc-plated steel carriage bolts. If you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this is the place to be. Look no further if you're off the wheel. . . this will get the job done quickly and almost effortlessly. Bolts can be cut flush with the nut if necessary, thanks to the blade's thinness. Easy to control and can be used as a grinding disk to make your bolts flush with the nut if you miss the mark, but make your cuts along the edge of the disk, as this is where the action happens. The flat surface would most likely wear out far too quickly; instead, use a grinder.

These aren't the same blades that you'd find in a big box store
3/5

While waiting for these to arrive, I bought a pack of these exact blades from a big box store and used four of them in the same material before switching to one of these. They had a lot more vibration right away, and it took only 5-minutes for them to notice. The blades began to chunk and became out of round after 10 seconds. useless. There was a lot of dust. br>br>I went back to the big box dewalt blade and had no problems; I tried another one and had the same issue. Switched back to a big box blade, which worked perfectly; tried a new one of these, which resulted in chunking and dust, as well as a blade failure. br>br>Other than the fact that these aren't the same blades, what's going on?.
