The bits appear to be doing an excellent job cutting wood, there is no sign of runout, and the case is labeled with a spot for each of the bits.
Note that the only issue you may encounter is when you receive the kit for the first time. The bits will be individually wrapped in plastic and you will have to pull them out to place them in the box. It appears that the metal parts came loose during shipping, but this did not appear to have damaged the case or the metal parts. In regards to the actual case, it's made of fairly cheap plastic, but for some strange reason the texture makes it difficult to attach a label. I don't know why they insist on giving something that will be sitting on a shelf for the majority of its life a texture, but there you have it. A couple of cracks are present in the clear window of my case, which I have noticed since I purchased it. In what sense am I concerned? Not at all. Organizes the bits and keeps them in the case. It's not that I'm showing them my tools, it's to keep them from wandering away. However, if this matters to you, it would be better for you to send the bits & bytes To get a pristine case, you'll have to send it back a few times.
As far as the parts themselves go, I find them to be My 3/4 inch bit and the largest one had no problem cutting through a piece of 2x4 that was fairly hard. The bits kept slipping, however, since the shank is rounded, and it is difficult to tighten them in. It took several tries with the larger bit to get it right Make sure it is tightened and that the drill has cooled. Due to the non-responsive comment, one star has been docked Slippage while drilling due to hex shanks. It had a cracked "window" and the parts were all over the place. The second star was because my first delivery had a cracked "window". It was still in the BOX it arrived in, which was totally intact. After ordering it from Amazon, I had it swapped out and the new one arrived in the same condition as the first. A crack in the carry case front occurred during the shipping process but was not visible in the box. It seemed most of the pieces were scattered on top of It does not appear that whoever is packing them is putting them into their respective spots, which would prevent them from moving In any case, if it wasn't for the fact that the second delivery was just as bad as the first, I'd have ignored this. Due to the fact that I have not used them yet, I am not able to review the quality of the products. It is interesting to note that many of the negative reviews were about the condition of the product when it arrived (i. e. The case has bits all over it, the plastic window in the front is As protection for the window, I got cardboard on the inside of the case. Even though the smaller bits were scattered, they did not cause any harm. Due to the oiled nature of the bits, they are all wrapped in plastic. The insistence that we unwrap them took a while was a good idea, although some complained that it was time-consuming. As soon as the bits are opened and put in the case, they do not appear loose enough to be removed until you want them to. Although likely to wear out over time, the plastic retaining bumps can still be maintained for several uses.
The only time I've used these was on a fence gate to install a thumb latch. It was necessary to drill 1/2 inch diameter holes through a 2 x 4, attached to a fence plank, and therefore the overall thickness was 2+1/8". I wasn't sure if it was just this type of wood, but I expected it to chew through softwood like butter. The starter took a while to fire up, and once it did, I had to push really hard to get it to continue running. Fortunately, some parts of the wood were burned but thankfully no one is going to see it. As I was drilling, I had to drill a second hole adjacent to the first because As a beginner in woodworking, I was hesitant to spend a lot of money on bits however, if I find I have a lot of use for them in the future, I will upgrade if I can afford it. I'd like to move on to making cabinetry and furniture with a skilled hand and the tools I have are not sharp enough. I would recommend that you buy a better set if you think you will use them frequently or if your skill level is higher. The only thing I would have done had I not waited so long to use them was to return them. They ended up getting the job done, but at the cost of considerable.
The good news is that. Good condition was received for both the bits and the case. In my experience, I have seen no problems with the 3 so far on dry maple cutting end grain and with careful clearance. The bad news is that until I can use these to their full potential, there needs to be an extension. The shanking sizes, however, are not the same and none look to be the standard 3/8" that is required for extensions made for this use.
There was a crack on the front of the case and the bits were dislodged from their slots when it arrived, as most consumers mentioned. There was no padding inside the envelope in which the set was shipped. It should ship in a small box, according to my opinion. As such, the bits did not suffer from any damage, and the case itself still worked. Using one bit, I compared it to a Freud bit of similar size. It seemed to cut a little easier with the Freud bit, but there was no difference to be seen. There are only a few projects that require Forstner bits, and this set will likely be enough to complete them.
In a nutshell A hacksaw is the most out of the question for me when it comes to cutting a hole in cabinetry to pass wires. It comes in multiple sizes and is a useful kit. A carrying case is an excellent idea to keep everything neat and organized. It is made of plastic and all the pieces snap into place. This transparent cover allows you to see everything at a glance at all times. I can reorganize everything without having everything jumbled up in a bag, and it's very convenient. In addition, these are extremely sharp as well. The sharpness is still there, even if they've been dulled. But I don't know how long it will take to dull them.
I am living with the broken box as long as it is an outbreak of the pandemic in our country. I've had good luck with the bits I've used. It appears these bits are of higher quality than the ones on Amazon sold by Irwin and Porter Cable. How well will they hold up over time? Impossible to say, but for a hobbyist like me,.
