With woods smaller than a 2x4, the product is fantastic. The case is as cheesy as they come, especially for a high-powered company and a high-priced product. Wow!.
This, as well as the K4, were purchased. K4 remained in my possession. br>br>Here's what I didn't care for: br>There are only three size settingsbr>While the locking handle is cool, it uses a friction ratchet to move and lock the thing into place. These, in my experience, wear out after a while and then don't have a strong, solid lock. It appears to be manufactured at a lower cost than the K4. It's probably made to last for a month after the warranty expires. br>br>The K4's stock is held in place by a solid metal lever mechanism. br>The K4 has 1/8-inch adjustments. br>I anticipate using it for many years.
This tool is reasonably good, but it is overpriced for what it is. There is only one item included in the kit. 25" x 2" 5 inch pocket screws I was disappointed to learn that these were too long for the 1/2" thick plywood project for which I purchased the tool. I had to order 1" screws on their own. I think a sample pack of 50 x 1" screws, as well as the other two lengths, should be included in the $100 price tag. Also, the 1/2" plywood I'm using is actually 15/32" thick, so even 1" pocket screws will put the point of the screws right up against the plywood's edge. They won't be able to get through, hopefully. Until these 1" screws arrive, I'll have no idea. UPDATE: The points of the 1" screws poked through the 1/2" plywood when they arrived. Each screw's point had to be ground down by a quarter inch. Kreg doesn't sell 3/4" coarse pocket screws, which is a shame.
I'd been using the Kreg R3 jig for years until a part of it finally broke. Even though I don't do a lot of pocket hole joinery, I figured it was time for an upgrade. This jig is insanely simple to work with! To tighten the workpiece, simply slide it into the jig and squeeze the trigger. The piece is held securely enough for drilling by the trigger clamp. The only thing that could make it better is if the drill bit and driver could be stored onboard. (I'm aware that add-ons are available for purchase, but I'll most likely build something for that. ).
Although I like the concept, I believe the design is poor. Because the jig rotates slightly, you must line it up and clamp it down firmly to prevent it from rotating while drilling holes. You'll have crooked holes if you don't.
This product is excellent; unlike the last one I purchased (not from this brand), it is not junk. It's simple to use, precise, and produces excellent results. Within minutes of unboxing, I was able to complete my project.
Tip: If you don't clamp your pieces, especially when gluing, the screw will pull the boards out of alignment, which is a problem.
Produces holes with a consistent angle. It was perfect for attaching the table aprons to a home computer desk project. The pocket holes and ease of use were a big plus for me. I drilled holes in 3/4 pine board that were perfectly centered and tightened with the included screws using an impact driver. I'm not a carpenter, but I sure made it look like I knew what I was doing- or instilled faith in me!.
It's a little awkward to use, but it's far superior to clamping and drilling by hand. It unquestionably expedites the procedure. I wish the clamp's mouth opened up a little more, and I wish it was made of stainless steel or something other than plastic; it feels like someone like me who overtightens things could easily break it.
