Questions & Answers

Can you tell me what size arbor bushings this wheel has? It is difficult to follow all the contradictory information. ?

There are arbor bushings in four sizes 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", and 7/8" on each wheel.

Can you tell me if this is a 60-grit According to the specification, the following is required I like the 60 very much. Could you please clarify what you mean by that?

In the one I bought, the grit is 150. It is available in 60, but is too rough for the tools available for lathes. A 60 is usually reserved for rotary lawn mowers or dressing struck tools.

Can you tell me how many revolutions per minute this wheel runs at?

There are 4,140 revolutions per minute

Do you have a soft wheel here? The Scotch-based product that I've been buying seems a little too sweet to me These are abrasive deburring wheels that have a soft material embedded in the abrasive. ?

In a similar manner to the Scotch Brite Wheel, this wheel works to remove burrs. Whether it is metal removal, tool sharpening, deburring, or deburring, our offering covers it all A white aluminum oxide is used for high-temperature ceramics For speed tool steels, brown aluminum oxide is used for carbon steel, and silicon carbide is used for non-carbon steel The two most common materials for tooling are ferrous metals and carbides.

Having me around is a good thing
4/5

Even though all the reviews were out of balance, I nearly did not buy. It was a 150 grit wheel that I purchased. This was the first time I'd balanced a wheel, so I had no idea of this As part of the package, you received detailed instructions on how to tame up the thing, as well as get it balanced for a quiet ride. When it was first put on, it wobbled a little. However, after 10 minutes of trial and error, I was able to get the right result. There was no issue and everything is fine now. In my experience, getting this wheel adjusted is a very simple process, and it is a good wheel, but perhaps too expensive for what it is now compared to what it used to cost. My only complaint was the blue plastic insert that ended up being a poor The center pieces also had to be glued together and the wheel must be bonded to the center pieces. I found it to work, but I might want to buy some better after market universal part. If you are in the market for a grinder, you should consider this option. When I use mine, I use a One Way setup to grind.

VERY OFF BALANCED and VERY SOFT
3/5

It took me some time to review it after I used it for a while. In my case, my goal was to sharpen lathe tools made of High Speed Steel. While unpacking, the bushing provided for my arbor was so loose it dropped out at the wheel. That's not a good sign for this sort of wheel. Once I mounted the device on my grinder, the vibration nearly caused the grinder to fall I dressed the stone for a second time after clamping the grinder down and tweaking the fitting on the arbor. It produced a vast cloud of white dust at the first touch of this SMOOTH stone because of the large amount of material which came off. It is imperative that you wear a mask. It did improve the balance, but the wheel was still not I can get a decent edge now, but given how soft the stone is, it will require frequent dressing to keep its edge, which is actually shortened the lifespan of the stone radically. With the purchase of a Trend diamond "stone" set, I have made honing much more efficient (my knives are razor sharp now!). The grinder stone should only be used when the shape needs to be refined. I would suggest that you pass on this product if you are looking to sharpen planer blades or chisel blades. If you are working with mild steel and looking for a fairly smooth finish, this perhaps might be the right tool.

With a little patience, it mounts and works just fine
5/5

It came double packed in air envelopes and was in perfect condition when it arrived. many reviews on this wheel report trouble installing and getting it to run true, let me describe the steps I took to mount and truing mine.

After taking off the old wheel, I cleaned the shaft and cups. The removal of rust, slag, and the like. It took me only a few seconds to mount the bushing against the inside cup and slide the wheel into place. As I tightened the nut finger tight, I held the outside cup tight against the wheel. By spinning the wheel, I could tell that it wobbled side to side and that it was about 3/16 out of true, so I removed it and completed the process again after reconfiguring the bushings. Getting the wheel as true as I could get it took me four attempts before I was satisfied with it. I then tightened up the nut and started the grinder. The grind was a little wobbly as the grinder reached speed, but it was over quickly and the out of round was 1/16. The vibration disappeared as soon as I turned the wheel off. All of the wheel's functions are working as they should. Cuts quickly and with a cool cut. In order to get a machined bushing with a $20 wheel, it is unreasonable to expect Also, the bushing does not determine the direction in which a wheel will spin. A grinder's performance is dependent upon the cup surfaces and how they engage with the wheel, especially on a cheap model. Order the right sized bushing from McMaster or buy the nesting steel bushings offered here on Amazon if you think that makes a difference. You're better off with a little patience.

A little wobbly and a little off-center
3/5

A lot of reviewers have commented on the cheesy center adapters on this wheel, which they certainly Then I thought I could use a lathe to turn one out of delrin that was as precise as possible. Although that worked well in terms of the side wobble and the 1/8" off center hole, I wasn't prepared for them. There is probably a reason why adapters come with so much slop in them. My option is to either try and true it with a diamond grinding wheel (messy) or to just toss it in the junk bin. That was a waste of time. A 60 grit version of that wheel is going to arrive in a few days. In the event that they are both the same type of wobbly off-center wheel, I will probably return them both.

The wheels have the potential to be good, but may require a lot of work to get them into shape
3/5

It was disappointing to receive two such letters. The arbor was badly out of balance and they were both badly out of balance. It is bolted to two sets of hockey pucks that isolate the top and bottom of the through-bolted bench, as the factory supplied wheels failed to eliminate both. I had to machine new bushings and flanges and they were still worse than my factory wheels. Now that I have matched the sides and front as well as balancing them, they are performing In any case, Norton was very cheap, so I expected better quality control.

This is a very good wheel, however it is not very fine
4/5

It is a good basic stone with the following 1) This was listed as being a very fine grit, yet only a After grinding lathe gouges, you get a somewhat rough finish on the surface. I would not describe this as Very Fine in any way. Unless I have a third stone or I do a finishing job with an Arkansas stone, I will need to invest in a new stone to get good There was a problem with the bushings for the arbor because they were not very well matched. Thus, when I used them for mounting stones on a 1/2" arbor, the stones sagged down and looked out of round at the top. You will need to get steel or bronze sleeves or bushings for any shaft other than 1" if you are mounting on a shaft other than 1".

The wheel is OK, but the quality assurance could be better
3/5

This is my second attempt. I found the first wheel to be out of round and have lateral runout I couldn't use it. I had a terrible experience with the supplied bushings. They were so loose a rat could slide between the bushing and the wheel on my second attempt. About 0 was the diameter of the hole where the wheel center was supposed to be. The 996x1 number. The number "006". It was about 0 on the wheel A best-fit bushing was made for 97" wide After using dead-center, the wheel had a 27 thou out lateral dimension, and a 15 thou out radial dimension You can use washers on them. There was a possibility that it could be balanced, but it wasn't good right The runout on my grinder shaft is 1 thou, so the results are much worse and can clearly be seen. Bushings were thrown out of the way Don't look back. A better bushing set was with the first wheel, a worse one with the other.
