Maybe one of those things where you have to order 5 and test each one separately to see which is the least out of roundness. Seems like most of the wheels on Amazon can have this issue, very sad. The one I have is being returned and I will purchase one from Home Depot.
We used one 60 grit paper and one 36 grit paper. It is best to use 60 grit. During spinning, the 36 grit appears to wobble and is unsafe. An improperly made or secured item is one that is improperly made.
Steel can be ground nicely for shaping tools using this approach. Our motor has a tapered spindle adapter of 1" diameter so I had to purchase a tapered spindle adapter separately. A number of plastic sheaths were used to size the inner diameter.
The idea is appealing to me. The wheel was a little too large for my unit, but it was easy to adapt. The vibration is gone with the new wheel, and now my 40 year old grinder is as good as new.
The bore on the wheel was too large, and the rubber bushings fit loosely, causing vibrations at high speeds. A grinding wheel was also packaged very poorly. It was placed in a bubble wrap envelope instead of a box, it was thrown on the doorstep, and it was handled in a way that should not be done to one. After throwing it in the trash, I was concerned that it would be returned to the trash and used by someone, resulting in.
Maybe there is a bit left to be done. The wheel is great. Although the wheel may not be as true as it could be, since I have to use all the arbor adapters for my grinder, I think the wheel may be more of a problem than the arbor adapters themselves. For the future, I plan to search for an arbor adapter that is more rigid. It is important to note that I have sharpened tools without any issues with it when it runs almost true.
I needed a relatively inexpensive stone to sharpen some old lathe tools, and this item did the job well. No bumps, gaps, or other imperfections exist on it. It is a true fit and very evenly round. This one is my favorite, and I plan to buy a few more in different grits and sizes. As a woodworker, I think a decent quality stone is sufficient for me, but for someone looking for professional results, they might need a better stone.
Stone of good quality.
