During the installation process there is a switch that allows you to reverse the direction. You should not rely on this switch to "break loose" previously tightened bolts, but to back things off as you're working. In response to your pipe question, if you are still able to feel the click, then there is no problem. If you apply 1 pound of torque 250 feet away or 250 pounds one foot away, the torque is the same.
A couple of days ago I discovered this (6/7/2019) on the "We also look for partners who are experts in their fields, whether or not they're traditionally associated with the tool industry. It is our intent to work with the most qualified subcontractors and suppliers in the United States. We want to work with the best partners anywhere in the world to ensure the best tool is made. There is a country of origin listed on the product page of each tool. In the near future, less than 10 percent of our tools will be made in China, while 15 percent will be made in the United States. In all that we do, we are committed to challenging ourselves and our colleagues to always strive to achieve "We bring you an enterprise content management system that's better designed, engineered, and more intentionally made than any other on the market."
It does come with an injection molded plastic case that is strong and basic. The wrench is stored in it and mine is red.
In spite of my 1/4" torque wrench clicking for 5 years of professional use, my Tekton tools are lifetime. A new one was mailed to me that same day with two day delivery from Tekton after sending an email with a picture. We have also warrantied a few other Torx sockets and so forth, no problems. Almost like the old Craftsman, but much easier since all the ordering is done through the email - no running to the mall required!

My position is in a calibration lab, so when I got this torque wrench I took it to my job to verify that the accuracy was indeed four percent. At the lower torque ranges, the torque wrench failed to provide accurate measurement to 4%. As far as the readings are concerned, the torque wrench is also not aligned properly. You will actually find that it is 10FtLb more than you expect when you set it up. For my second torque wrench, I'm doing a 1 for 1 swap. As well, I will test the new one I receive to verify that what I pay for is what I am getting.
I was able to accurately test it. Testing took place on a torque transducer, which gave me the opportunity to accurately evaluate the product. The results were documented so that others may also take note.
This product performed exceptionally well right With a score of 1, this test passed. There is an average tolerance of 5%. It is rated as +/- 4% accuracy. We will test it again after 6 months of use and proper storage to see if it has kept its value. They are working well for me now. Updated 8/6/2018 It's been over 2 years since I used this wrench. In the past, I have always unloaded (set to zero) the wrench after each use, and then stored it in its original container. Regardless of the lack of adjustments for the past 29 months, the test results from the wrench have not changed significantly and remain within 2% of the tolerance outlined. In a normal ISO system, tolerances are usually +/- 4%, which means the wrench is still twice as accurate as the standard.
Here is the updated version (please read). This is junk. My first use out of the box was to torque 100 ft/lbs on a sway bar link, and it pulled the bolt out with no click, no click, no click. I tested it against one of the old beam style wrenches, and it was way off. I found the brand hard to locate a replacement for one smashed thumb and one hard to find bolt. I won't be purchasing The instructions on the tv were easy to follow, and I am not unfamiliar with I guess it will make a great paper weight since it doesn't have a return option.
Update There is nothing I can do about it. Since I am prone to making mistakes, I admit my errors when I do, and I was most definitely wrong in this instance. In setting the torque value, I accidentally set it one setting too high which isn't hard to do. The markings on the torque value are ambiguous but once I figured it out, setting it right at the bottom of the torque value worked great.
There is merit to the other reviewers' point of view. As far as I can tell, mine looks like it has On the item you will find scratches and marks throughout. This is something I am able to handle. It doesn't work for me, and I can't imagine how. I tried it on a lower setting as well but it didn't work. The item will be returned because I am disappointed. You may have better luck in the future.
My method for testing this torque wrench' accuracy was to compare it with an existing Snap-on torque wrench I owned, as well as an AC/Delco digital torque adapter. It was certified that the AC/Delco unit was within 0. 5 percent of its target value. A torque of 3% of the actual torque is required. As mentioned by some, the Tekton wrench did not come with a certification, but instead had a sticker that claimed it was certified. Straight out of the box, it measured ridiculously out of spec, but after it had been exercised, it measured on the outside range. About two to five percent of the torque that was applied was too much for the setting. Seldom was too little torque applied. As a result of using it for a while, I now realize that it needs to be exercised at least five times at 50% of max torque before anyone tries to torque It should be exercised again if it was sitting overnight. In the operator's manual, it does not mention this, but you ought to know that this must be done with click type wrenches. As opposed to the Snap-on wrench, I think I got better and more accurate results with the Snap-on, even without exerting as much pressure. It is no secret that the Snap-on cost ten times, if not more, than I would say that it is a pretty good wrench for the money, as long as you remember to exercise it every time you use it. Snap-ons are not known for their amazing spit and polish. A polished finish will cost a few more dollars if you want chrome and shine.
In order to fix and replace the two valve cover bolts on my BMW, I had to hire a lot of labor and pay for A low torque setting will not result in a click. I was more than disappointed with this product when I purchased it because it made so many claims regarding accuracy. . . Now that I see other people are frustrated too, I can no longer blame myself. The unit was returned to the manufacturer after the return period had expired after I wrote this review. As a result, I contacted the company, who informed me that you MUST store the torque wrench at the lowest setting, not below which could have been what My perception has always been that it should be set below any setting to keep it loose, but they insist it cannot be set below lowest torque setting or it can lose A new one was sent to me just now. Although I do not use them every day, I will report if they do work on low torque settings in the future.
