Questions & Answers

Is it equipped with rubber jaws to prevent silver and gold jewelry from being tarnished?

The jaws are not made of metal, but rather of hard plastic. I'm not sure if it'll cause any issues. I believe they may, but I am confident you could prevent this by placing something on the jaws. I got mine to solder electrical circuits, so I don't know much about gold or silver.

Is it possible to use this base with the panavise 315 circuit board holder?

Hello, No, you are unable to do so. The 315 circuit board holder is compatible with any model or series of panavise 300. If you have any questions, please contact Panavis at (541) 665-6666. Thanks ! Jameco Electronics is a company that specializes in electronic components.

Is it possible to use this to hold a plastic floral bouquet holder without it being crushed?

The weight of the plastic holder will determine whether it can support it as well. To hold delicate materials, the jaws are padded with neoprene.

What country did this item originate from?

There are no "Made in" stamps on the items. " marks on the vise, and "Pana Products Inc." is written on one side of the plastic vise clamp. Reno, Nevada is a city in the United States of America.

Selected User Reviews For PANAVISE Model 201 "Junior" Miniature Vise

For Intended Use, this is a useful tool
4/5

As long as I use this vise only for its intended purpose and am aware of its limitations. This is a useful little vise, but it does not replace the need for a 6" cast-iron vise on the garage workbench, as you probably already know. Also, for an additional $3, add the 239'speed control handle' to the 201 Junior. I'm not sure why PanaVise doesn't include it already. br>br>So I'm giving this little vise a 5 for functionality, concept, and manufacturing quality. However, material quality (and, more importantly, material selection) is a three-step process. Time, as well as limiting the amount of abuse, will tell the durability story. The end-of-the-line feature is one feature that was included in the design intentionally or unintentionally. On the way back, make a pit stop. If the vise jaws are opened more than two times, the screw will come loose. 875- inch. Nylon is used for the vice jaw, and cast aluminum is used for the base. br>br>Adjustment; br>br>Adjustment; br>br> I had about two-thirds of a pound of (roughly) two-thirds pound round, inch in diameter- I had some base magnets (RB50CX6) on hand, so I decided to mount them on the 201 Junior vise. I made a 1/4-inch (5mm) hole in the middle and enlarged it. inch to match the mounting holes on the vise base I also threw in some 2- To protect the surface from damage during the attachment and removal of the magnetic base, apply an inch wide Gorilla Clear Repair Tape to the bottom of the magnets. br>br>Mod enables me to mount the vice on a QuadHands base. Both the PanaVise 201 Junior and the QuadHands Deluxe workbenches have a plate for added stability and utility. When the vice was simply set on the workbench, the weight and surface area of the magnets attached to the base also improved vice stability. br>br>Overall, I recommend this small vice for hobbyists, electronics enthusiasts, and other light-duty projects.

Lockpicking Locksport: I have five vises that cost a lot more than this one
4/5

I use them to work with electronics as well as wood and metal. Lockpicking for fun rather than profit/crime is how I got into locksport. br>br>I used to have a much nicer vise, but it didn't tilt on a ball like this one does, so my hands got cramped. I also didn't want that nicer vise tethered to my workshop because I like to sit and watch TV while lockpicking. This is where the vise comes in. br>br> It's extremely adjustable, making it simple to achieve unusual angles that aid in awkard picking. br>br>For a vise, the vise is extremely light (it feels like aluminum and plastic). You could probably paint small figurines in it without clamping it to a block of wood or anything because it's quite heavy for its size. br>br>I needed to mount it to a base because I was clamping in heavy locks and applying tension to them. I chose a metal surgical tray with an indented (upwards) center to mount the vise. br>br>I went with a metal surgical tray with an indented (upwards) center to mount the vise. The mounting holes have been well countersunk. If you're mounting into a block of wood, the bolt/screw should go through the top of the block. br>br>I was mounting it on a surgical tray, so I started at the bottom and worked my way up. The bolts I used have large, smooth heads that serve as feet. When I use the vise, I do have to look at the comparatively unsightly nuts, but the flat bolt heads don't scratch table tops like the nuts do. br>br>I gave it a one-star rating because of the following: They call it fine/coarse adjustment, but it's the same knob that does the same thing. Yes, the wingnut-like portion of the knob can be held, but it is attached to the knobby part of the knob. br>br>As a result, you only get good jaw opening and closing. Too fine; I only switch between locks of similar size every few days, which is inconvenient. In a single day, I can't imagine switching between multiple sizes of work. They do sell a larger speed knob for this, but I don't like to reward bad business decisions. BTW, I was aware of the knob issue prior to putting it in, but still! br>br>At some point, I might just drill a hole through the diameter of the knob and insert a thin metal rod as a speed knob lever. br>br>For around $7, you can do a Panavise wide jaw mod to give this thing twice the opening. Panavise has three vises: br>br> This is the most affordable one, with a medium jaw opening; a more expensive one that is beefier but opens up LESS wide; and the most expensive one that is simple like this but opens up TWICE as wide. br>br>Vise can cost over $1000, so this one is a great deal for me. It's extremely affordable and adaptable. If you require a wider jaw opening, follow these instructions: br>br> Look into the $7 mod and see if you're capable of doing it- or pay three times as much for the Panavise. br>br>Their middle vise looks like a five-dollar anvil vise you'd find at a garage sale. Only it's more expensive, smaller, and lighter, and the jaws don't open all the way, which is odd, but many tools are specialized, so someone out there must like it for some reason. br>br>Panavise also offers circuit board holders. br>br>If you don't plan on clamping things of various sizes in it all day, this is a great vise. Opening and closing the vise is difficult due to the ultra-fine thread pitch. This might be the cheapest vise for you if you clamp single items into it and work on them for days at a time. br>br>For lock pickers who want to have a good time, this is probably a 5 star (super cheap and adjustable). br>br>For anyone else, the fine threads/non-woven fabric may make it unusable. coarse adjustment is already in place. br>br>I like it and would consider purchasing one as a gift for a lockpicking enthusiast (or for myself if I needed another lockpicking vise).

Models and fly fishing lures are both great uses for this material
5/5

This was purchased as a gift for a neighbor who enjoys building plastic model airplanes and fly fishing lures. To me, it seems like an odd pairing, but we're both veterans, so we're a different breed than civilians (read as: a little twisted in the head, but not stupid, just odd). Anyway, she finally informed me that she is "lady gaga" over this device, whatever that means. Her husband is delighted because she won't be making him nervous by spending time on the firing range. He thinks she'd be better off playing with her toys than worrying about another Reserve re-enlistment. the act of enlisting She brings her newest Star Trek models over, and I bring out my electronic Borg cube, and we have simulated battles over pizza, beer, and a Trek movie. Normally, I come out on top.

This is the most basic vise for any electronic hobbyist, and it's also a great smaller vise for holding PCBs and other small items
5/5

There are a lot of cheap holders out there that are nearly useless, but this is where you should start. You can expand its capabilities by adding more PanaVise parts to it. It's fine as a stand-alone soldering base, but mounting it to a board or base ring would make it a more solid fixture for heavier work. The vise comes with a knob "spinner" attachment (not shown here) that makes it much easier to use. The plastic jaws are very useful, but careless solder burns may make it a replacement item over time. The fittings are very good and should last a very long time. This will be a welcome upgrade if you've been suffering from the cheap "helping hands" grabbing fixture.

Excellent value for money! It's necessary for holding small, irregular shapes in place
5/5

I was able to use this vise within an hour of its arrival. I needed to roughen a small spot on several polished stones and then glue a "bail" (a jewelry term - see below) on top of it. who knew? ) on each stone's abrasive surface. The irregularly-shaped object was held in place by this vise. I made the stones rigid so I could use a diamond burr to grind a spot and then glue the bail on. With my regular bench, there was no way I could have completed this task. mountable vise, excellent value for money!.
