I've owned a few Panavises over the years, and the products they produce today are of the same high quality as they've always been, which is refreshing to see in this day and age of manufacturing and the demise of so many businesses. They've also managed to keep the price fairly consistent over the last 25 years, which is impressive. The final finishing and the finish itself are a little less than they were previously, but it's a minor difference. If you have a problem, just let them know and they'll take care of it for you. br>br>These are great for holding work in just the right position, and they're solid and sturdy enough to handle work that would cause most mini vises to slip or shift. The lower height of this base is ideal for benchwork that may include soldering, painting, or filing. It's reasonably stable on its own, with enough weight to prevent it from scooting off or tipping over without much leverage, but it's simple to bolt it down or purchase one of their other wider base plates.
To be honest, I had hoped for a higher level of quality. br>Like the PanaVise Desk Clamp, the unit should come with a metal handle. Tightening and loosening things is much easier with this tool. br>Could also use thicker/higher-quality metal for the rotating bar's inner clamps, which will hold the PanaVise jaws of your choice. I went with the one with the extra-wide opening. Even the quality of that is debatable, but I'll write a separate article about it. TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL; TL DRbr>Overall, I like the low-profile base's form factor, but I think it could use a metal handle and a better material to screw the inner clamps into. br>It hasn't broken yet, but I'm afraid I won't be able to tighten it enough.
I now have four Panavise base units, but this is the first low-profile model I've bought. On my workbench, I'm using it to hold a vintage articulated lamp with a magnifying lens. To fill the receptacle in this base unit, I needed to use brass shims around the lamp base stud. It's fastened to my workbench and complements the lamp perfectly.
The precision vise for delicate work was exactly what I needed. Because my work area is entirely made of metal, I used the low-profile base and added the magnet so I could place the work piece wherever I wanted.
This, along with the low-profile head, were purchased for use at my jeweler's bench. Despite the fact that most vises are adjustable, fine detail work with them is difficult on a regular basis because they stick too far up, out, or both. This is a refined, well-made product of high quality. built-in unit that adjusts easily, locks securely, and can keep your work at a reasonable level All of my PanaVise products are fantastic, and I highly recommend them to jewelers and other detail-oriented individuals. workers.
I finally gave in and bought a PanaVise system with the 315 head, and I'm in love with it. I recommend buying the 305 mini vise as well because the jaws on the 315 are larger and work on 75% of the boards but not so much on the small boards with com With a twist of the knob, I can now toggle between the two. Another piece of advice: don't bolt it to your bench; instead, bolt it to a nice flat piece of hardwood with that sticky style shelf liner on the bottom; it will stay put, won't tip over, and you'll be able to move it back when you need the bench.
This was part of a Panavise set that I purchased. This can be used for both small wiring jobs and the construction of wire harnesses. I think this is the best purchase I've ever made!.
It was fantastic in every way. I don't have any pet peeves.
