These items haven't been honed in any way. br>Flattened on first usebr>br>I transferred six holes into very mild hot roll steel with great care, and the tip was completely flat by the end of the six holes. br>br>After just one use, the tip had become completely flat. br>br>When it comes to transfer punches, I'm very gentle. When transferring, I use a very light tap and always use a brass hammer. These are a waste of time. If you're going to work with aluminum only, don't buy them. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> The majority of them appear to be hardened, while others do not appear to be. br>br>After 20 transfers into the same mild steel, the 17/32 held up. br>Both the 9/32 and the 11/32 mushroomed and lost their tips almost immediately.
I wasn't expecting much, but the punches were placed in the holder and then placed in the box without any additional packaging to prevent them from banging around. The top of the box was shattered with numerous small holes, and one of the punches was visibly bent. The sizing isn't very precise, ranging from exactly as labeled to a couple of thou under from the various punches (traditionally, you want them under by 1 thou in the general case), so if you need that level of accuracy, this isn't the tool for you. However, they are inexpensive, and they work well for woodworking and other applications where being a couple of thou off is acceptable. I'd prefer something better, but for the time being, this is the best I can do.
This product arrived ahead of schedule, which was nice, and it was made in China, which was to be expected (given the price). The only flaw I can find is that the diameters of the individual transfer punches are not stamped on the punches. The sizes of the transfer punches are labeled on the plastic carrying case (though not very clearly).
They haven't been hardened in any way. I attempted to transfer a hole pattern onto Cold Rolled Steel - 4th. NO TIP TO SPEAK OF IN THE HOLE! Complete JUNK! br>.
self-starter. If you're a craftsman or fabricator who works 40 hours a week, look elsewhere, but if you're a do-it-yourselfer, this is the place to be. If you're a do-it-yourselfer around the house, these will suffice; however, the steel is quite soft, so I don't think you'll be able to keep your tips on it for very long.
I ordered these right away, and they have not let me down.
Very soft metal, not the right size (a 1/2in drill bit shank doesn't fit in a 1/2in hole), and some of the tip was already worn.
Stupidity at its finest. Metal that isn't too hard. The proportions are incorrect. Some sizes are missing, while others are duplicates.
