What is the punch and the starter included in this set?

All the punches in this set are In order for your punch to work, there is a recessed hole on the tip that will hold a role pin in place when you try to

How do you know if your punches are made of size I steel. The pouch was marked for size, but is there a similar marking on the punches?

There are no markings, so the test is negative.

There's a notice on the packaging saying it's made in China, but otherwise it seems to be decent

Is it possible to drive pins deeply enough to drive them fully (what is the maximum depth you can drill)?

Role pins are about half as long as the pins. I have found they do a very good job.

Selected User Reviews For Wheeler Engineering Roll Pin Starter Punch Set

The container was filled with liquid and brown crud
3/5

The reviews looked good so I decided to give them a try since I needed these to get spiral roll pins in without bending or damaging them. My first observation when I opened them was that some had brown sand looking junk in them. Then, I noticed another one had what looked like water filling the hole and when I removed that one, there were clearly greasy fingerprints There was a lot of dirt on the set, so I don't know if I got a used set or if they got dropped during production or came open during shipping. Although I'm sure they are going to work fine and I did spend 15-20 minutes cleaning out the holes, I would have expected a brand new tool set not to come with all the dirt and liquid it came with, so I only gave it 2 Interestingly, I saw that another reviewer encountered a similar issue with theirs, so I think there is an issue with quality control at the company. See the pictures below to see how they looked and how much crud I was able to get out of them when they arrived. Previously, I've seen some leftover production residue, but the level I see now is very low.

It is important to use the appropriate tool for the A few years ago I used needle-nose pliers to hold the roll pins in place while I was building a rifle
5/5

What a horrible thing to do. With this roll pin punch set, my task was made a thousand times easier, and I didn't scratch the roll this time around. Gunsmithing would be my dream job if I was able to use these tools all day. That was hilarious. Haha. You and your gun will never see that, but these tools will make your life much more convenient and they will make your gun look like it was professionally built.

Good for the build of a rifle
5/5

I bought these to build some AR-type rifles, and they worked almost perfect except for the roll pin for the gas block, which wouldn't release when the pin was inserted into the gas block it would just pull right out again! As I tried to remove the roll pin from the tool, the pliers got jammed up up and could not remove it, so I was forced I am very happy with how the others worked!.

I wanted to purchase the starter punch set so I could build an AR upper
5/5

I was building an upper for my first time and I needed the set to make things My home gunsmithing activities have increased over the past few years, and I have had a need for a set like this for a while. I have already started the pin in It is much easier to do the job when you have the right tools. As well as my roll pin punch set, I also enjoy it. The three sets of punches and my spares make a total of six punches. Because I have the right tools, I feel I have the ability to handle jobs that I wouldn't have been able to take on without them.

Don't let your fingers fall off
5/5

A few months ago, I didn't even know these punches existed until I saw them being used in an on-the-job safety course Watch the video to repair your line. It was always difficult for me to start Roll Pins as I would have my blunt head punches jump off the pin. I even hurt my hand from the hammer head whacking They eliminate these problems because they use a roll pin starter punch. It is possible to safely hold the roll pin into place with the Starter Punch by allowing the end of the roll pin to slide into the punch. These bags are extremely well made and come with a nice apron. It would be a good recommendation.

The pin size is off, and the pin can go in too far
3/5

The quality of the rolls are generally good, but I cannot figure out if it is because the roll pins are too long or the punches are too One pin hit into the starter punch as opposed to the part so deep I had to use a vise and a wrench to remove it. I saw this on two different sizes of parts. You need to be careful.

This is the third hand used by a mechanic for forklifts
5/5

Changing mast chains on my forklift was easy with these. The anchor pin is held in place by two roll pins that are perpendicular to each other, and it was difficult and painful to line up the roll pin with the anchor pin hole in the past. The pins fit well with the metric pins I dealt with, but they appear to be aimed at standard roll pin sizes.

It is probably a good set, but lacking in gunsmithing parts
3/5

gave this product 3 stars because, although it is indicated it can be used for gunsmithing, the tool does not come with a punch that is small enough to work on firearms. I returned them due to their appearance and the price. Although they appeared decent quality for the price, I needed a smaller punch, so I returned them.
