There has never been a problem with my own, and when I used it on various materials it worked as intended, with no problems.
It was a misunderstanding on my part. alternate between the plastic and metal sides according to what works best for you. I use the plastic side to cut a hole in leather belts and it works

The handles are too far apart and unable to be squeezed easily. It is very difficult for me to use these as they open too wide. The handles take a lot of pressure to close, and I have to use both hands to get the handles close enough to squeeze the handles with one hand. Useless tool, just The tool would be an excellent choice if you have quite large hands and even greater strength. The cheap metal ones don't open so wide and are easier to grip. Otherwise, you may want to opt for the cheaper style.
I have gone through several hole punches and this is by far the best one I have ever bought. I think it's very well done. I was happily surprised and impressed by the experience. This is the last one I will buy from Michaels or Joanns (after this I will never buy another one). I highly recommend this book!.

My purchases of this product have been used often since I purchased I find it to be extremely useful. In spite of the leather being fairly thick, the hole-punching machine was able to make a hole in it without any problem. While it works on thick leather, it also works well on very thin leather when I ride. Regardless of the thickness of the leather, it makes my riding experience much more convenient. Stirrup straps are what I used it for.

I found that the reviews here complaining about the difficulty getting the punch materials out of the tube must have been using some sticky materials as I found the tiny punch outs in my punch fell right through the wheel. I am quite pleased with this item. One thing I will mention is to pay attention to the position of the brass disk, I punched a hole in the plastic part of the disk.
