Questions & Answers

Is there a metal the hammer can punch through that is thickest? How much does it cost, and does it only punch through aluminum, or can it also punch steel, mild steel, etc?

The tool I have helped me use made a great job of punching through a copper gutter made of 20 gauge.

Are there any advantages to using this to punch many holes in 1/8" thick steel? What is the life expectancy of the bits? What should I do if I do not have ?

It's my mistake. Do your drill as usual. Only about 18ga punches can be used with the tool. You can also use softer materials like metal. One eighth inch is one tenth of an inch. There are 125 thousandths of an inch in one In 18 gauge. The rubber on the fender of your car is only a few thousand times thicker. 22 gauge is the most common gauge for fenders.

Could you please let me know if you have a slot punch?

There are round bits on each piece

A hole can be punched through a nickel-plated surface of 1mm thick with this device Are you using a template for your plates?

If it cuts through that thickness, I would think it would be fine. The last time I punched through 16 gauge copper sheet was many years ago. It is generally considered to be 18 gauge to measure 1mm.

A copy of a Roper Whitney punch made by the Chinese
3/5

The Roper Whitney tool is only 1/3 of the price of the original and official tool, so I guess this one will work. This type of punches shares a characteristic with all of them, and that is they all all come with a certain amount of free-swing There is a "play" or a "slop" between a moving punch piece and the bore into which it is supposed to slide. Punches are required to have an absolute minimum clearance between the punch tip and the receptacle for the punch tip in order to make clean holes in thinner gauge materials. On the other hand, if the sliding punch moves side to side In addition to the clearance between the punch tip and its receptacle, the distance between the punch and the receptacle must also be excessive. A hole that does not have adequate clearance can get trapped on the edge of the punch when the clearance is not provided. This is the kind of thing that you probably won't realize is happening until you push down on the handle and hear a sickening "CRACK". Now that you've broken it, you're out of luck- Suitable for punching pairs of all sizes. For my case, this punch kit was purchased to replace an older (but identical) kit that had two sets of broken punches due to the general play of The purchase of a newer and more recent car - I was expecting a quantum improvement in quality from the manufactured tool, but it only showed a slight improvement in quality. In the end, I had to make a set of special engine exhaust gaskets that were made either from graphite or from wire mesh reinforcements woven into the layers of soft graphite. This material can only be punched with a punch since there is no tool other than one to make clean holes. No drilling, no knives, no other cutting tools are needed. Having a punch. It is made up of wire mesh of a certain gauge number. If the clearance between the punch and the material is larger than the diameter of the wires in the mesh, the punch will not be able to shear the wires in the mesh in a manner that creates a clean hole. As much as I wanted this punch to accomplish that task, it did not. Due to too much clearance between the punching pieces, the wire mesh partially cut and left a "hanging chad" (remember those from a voting machine in Florida?) on the backside of the mesh. A pair of fine-tipped wire cutters cleared away the tag that was hanging off the gasket, but I had hoped for better performance. What would happen if Whitney hand punches were to become more popular? There's no way for me to find out, because I wouldn't risk spending this much money on something that may have the same tolerance levels as this 'budget' But aside from that, it seems to have a decent quality. The performance of the device on 'regular' sheet materials like metal and plastic will have to be determined over time.

The tool is very sturdy
5/5

In order to punch small holes in jewelry I make, I will be using this tool. In addition to its durability, I was happy to see how well it worked. No burrs or overlapping are present as a result of the smooth hole punching. I found the weight to be a little heavy, but manageable. Using 20 guage copper, I made some screws out of two layers of metal in a similar way and it worked well. I would like the instructions to be a bit more clarifying. ( There was not much information available for instructions). It just kind of came to me as a result of figuring it out on my own. Furthermore, I think it will be difficult to make a tiny hole in a very precise spot given the lack of visibility, but I'm sure I'll get better at it if I do this in good lighting. Overall, this is a very good tool, and I'm sure I will use it for many years to come. I would like one more size smaller than the smallest punch and die provided, but overall it was a very good tool.

Drilling is not the best way to drill
4/5

As a whole Punching steel that is 18 gauge or thinner is faster than drilling, even when the material is softer. Based on the weight and construction of the tool, the tool appears heavy duty. If you want thinner steel, this is the way to go. Detailed information If you punch 18 gauge black steel with the tool, it works well but if you punch 16 gauge black steel with it, it does not work at all and just causes dimples on the steel, regardless of I found it difficult to align the punch exactly at the point I had marked. There is very little or no deburring required after the hole is punched punching is a very clean operation.

Buying this would have been a wise move have been drilling holes into Mardi Gras Doubloons one after another for a long time now
5/5

I'm of an age where projects take up so much time. In order to make a doubloon vest, I have to cut them down to size. Several of my family members love the ones my grandmother had made, so I wanted to make some for other members of the family as well. The hole was drilling and sanding for nearly a minute each, then filing off the rough edges took an additional minute. I hate it. There were a lot of people there and it was noisy. It was on Amazon that I found this and decided to give it a shot. I am astounded! I'm saving a lot of time, plus my hearing is getting better! In this unit, holes are punched in the aluminum coins (about 14mm diam. Quite simply, 16 gauge) moves quickly, smoothly and with.

I can't believe it
5/5

The punches are clean when used as described. The 3mm punch has only been used once, but it is very impressive I'm punching holes in both aluminum and brass sheets which are 36 gauge. Punches that won't punch the brass at all and those that do leave a chad or burr on the back of the hole are the exceptions. There is no dust or debris left behind when you use this punch. I have to use the pliers with two hands, unless I can hold the metal in a vise or with a C-clamp, since they are too big to fit in my palms Generally, I hold smaller pieces of metal with one hand either in a clamp, or lying on their sides on the work surface. The mark on the metal might make it hard to see exactly where the hole will go, but I line the punch up with the pin on the metal pretty easily. When you use an awl or nail set to make a small indentation in the target metal, you can feel the pin in the center of the punch when it sits in the indentation, so you know if you have it ready properly to provide the hole you need. This punch was the most satisfying of the ones I tried, so I am very glad I found it!.

The only good tool is the one you use
5/5

Where have I been all this time? I need to buy this now! This punch has only been in my system for a few It was so exciting to get my hands on it that I did not wait for it to arrive, put it together and tried it right away. This is what I'm using My materials are neither super thin nor super strong, but I can punch a deep hole in them nicely and cleanly with a bit of aluminum that I am able to cut by hand. After I put the pin in the proper size and precisely punched 10 plates, it was done within minutes. The only thing I wish it had is As a first time fighter, it's hard to get a good grip and hit the right spot because I have good sized hands. I'm sure that as you use it, it will become easier. Thus, you can protect your hand from hand punching by buying it and trying it.
