The spring is over, so buy a new one.

A new and much thicker #87 is on the horizon There's just something NOT the same about it! Having an official #87 that is over 30 years old is a great feeling. The precision instrument I bought was made very well, but it eventually just wore out so I bought a new one. The passage of time changes everything, often for the worse. With the "new" #87, the device is much thicker (especially in your hand), quite clunky, not well made, and extremely inaccurate. A large load spring on the new model applies way too much pressure, thus causing a deep impression and distortion. * * * The old one was marked with a U. There are several places where the new one says "" and another where it says "Crap Chinese crap. ". It's time for me to put an end to general tools. Nothing was bought for the first time, or at least nothing viewed before. AMF

Although it looks nice and compact, the functionality is lacking, only a few uses can be made of it. The gear never stays tuned to work and I've tried many times to adjust to adjust it so that it would work- This command has become reasonably loose with respect to what I can adjust. Nonetheless, it may need adjustment from time to time and I never bring it out of my pocket when I need it. You can buy a punch tool / rivet remover combo on Amazon if you really need one or you can buy one separately If you want to punch with both hands, get one with You can hold the end of it in your hand.
I have used both the larger diameter size and the slimline size, like this one, over the years. There was nothing special about this one am not sure if it was just me or if it was this particular design that As a result, the adjustment screw at the top did not accomplish both its purpose of accuracy and consistency. Toward the end, I eventually threw it out because I did not use it that much.
The auto center punch is a nice little tool. I tend to carry it around in my pocket because it is ideal for working on smaller softer materials (polycarbonate, styrene, brass, etc. ) The majority of my time is taken up with two full-time jobs There are auto punches that are large enough to punch plastic, but they are hard to handle and tend to smash I think this one will work well. There are three points on this point. Each point has a The burr shafts from old cutting burrs are used to make extra tips If you ground out a small groove and threw in a couple of turns of spring wire, you could use it to make a riveting head, prick punch, etc. Although, from time to time, it can malfunction.
Drill bits start on the mark and stay on the mark with the best bit starter tool. This is a replacement for one that had been in my possession for several years but had recently been abused (using it for a duty it was not designed to perform). I'm glad to have a new one in my collection.
You can see that the new one is thicker and feels cheaper in the hand. Interestingly, I dissected my old one in comparison to the new one, and there are some differences in its interior As can be seen in the photos, the shiny one is the new model, while the matte aluminum is one from years ago. However, it is not at all like my old one. It works, but its quality is far from my old one.
Thus, the GT 87 model, which is 8 inches, is not the model in question. The length of the shaft is 6". A little over five and a half inches Although it isn't a big deal, I find it rather distracting that it is described and sold as something that it isn't. A return for a refund was not worth the hassle, so I should have bought from a local merchant instead so that I can get what I actually ordered.
Please take caution! I was not able to engage the spring action punch on the one I received. It would take too much effort to return it. It can only be used as a scribe. I'll keep it for that purpose.
