Questions & Answers

Is this something that can be used on steel that has been hardened?

I'm a retired Master Machinist with over 30 years of experience. Because Starrett Punches are tempered to 60 Rockwell C, they will leave a center mark on any metal with a hardness lower than that. Rockwell 60C is only for finished, hardened, and ground final products, for which a jobber/HSS drill would never be used in the first place.

How long will it be in total?

The length is 4 inches (according to the Travers Tool team).

Is this sping up to date?

Steel is used in its construction.

I worked as a machinist for 35 years, so I know what I'm talking about. Starrett makes the best steel. br> The knurling is excellent. As if you were an arrow, you were perfectly straight. It's worked for me on mild steel, tool steel, aluminum, brass, and even wood. br>I've never missed a beat in my life. br>Buy the best once and for all. br>Made in the United States, which is extremely important to me. br>I highly recommendbr>Thank you for reading.

Make sure everything is in order! What a powerful combination! This center punch has made me extremely happy
5/5

I needed a tool that could do what it's supposed to do while also being strong enough to drive out drilled-out rivets, and this fits the bill. This punch's durable materials allow it to withstand my abuse without warping or damaging the sharp center point. br>br>On top of that, it looks great. The only issue I have is with how it was delivered. It was in a tiny envelope the same color as the box and on the bottom of the box, so I almost tossed it out with the box. I got lucky and noticed it as I was about to throw out the box, and I was curious as to what it was because there was no indication on the envelope as to what it could be. Obviously, this is a seller issue and has nothing to do with the product, but I thought it was worth noting in case anyone else purchases from the same seller.

AR builds are highly recommended
5/5

Rather than purchasing a set of punches, many of which I will likely never use, I decided to purchase only the ones I will need for my AR builds. Starett is an excellent brand to have in your arsenal. Avoid the low-cost nonsense! Sizes 5/32 tapered point, 5/32 drive pin, 3/32 tapered point, 3/32 drive pin, 1/8 tapered point, and 1/8 drive pin are a good place to start. I think the pin on the barrel gas block is missing. However, I am far from an expert. The measurements listed above are a good place to start.

The Starrett quality is undeniable, and this centerpunch outlasts the competition
5/5

This centerpunch is possibly 40% more than other punches but it's very hard steel and I am impressed after hammering it during the procedure to drill and tap solid steel during It's going to last a long time. I've bought low-cost ones before, and they usually become dull after a few uses. Quality implements are made by Starrett. For the price, the quality is unquestionably good.

This is something that will be passed down through the generations
5/5

This center punch has a knurled grip and a sharp point, making it a long-lasting, almost indestructible center punch. This is something you could probably pass down to your children, who could then pass it down to their children. The only criticism I have is that the round grip section makes it easy to roll away. Having said that, I wish the manufacturer would make the knurled grip section square or hexagonal to avoid this. Even after all these years, it's still a great tool to have in your arsenal.

"Old Reliable" has been reintroduced as a new product
5/5

Everything I've come to associate with the Starrett moniker. If it says Starrett, you can bet it's of machinist quality. There's an old adage about buying tools: "If it says Starrett, you can bet it's made by a machinist. " Buy quality and you'll only cry once; buy cheap and you'll cry twice. br>I bought this punch to go with our new drill press table in the shop, and I was relieved to find that it was identical to the ones I've had for 15 years. It is impossible to outgrow the importance of quality! br>In general - Excellent product, excellent price, and prompt delivery.

That's all I've got to say on the subject
5/5

Until now, I had no idea what a Starrett was. If you didn't realize it before, now you do. They're extremely strong and durable. Machined to perfection. For the price, these are a no-brainer. Why not stash a few in your toolbox's upper right hand drawer? How did I figure that out? If you didn't already know, you now do.

This punch is well-made
5/5

Finely worked tool steel has a certain allure. br>br>This punch is very well made for the price. The knurling is fantastic, providing excellent grip even when wearing gloves. The point is nice and sharp, and when hammer tapped, it makes a perfect 1/8" divot. br>br>On a custom jeep bumper, this has withstood about a dozen punches so far. I'm about to install a wood floor in my trailer, and it'll have to take 60 punches to keep the bit from drilling holes for the hardware.
