Questions & Answers
If you're using a 3/16" or larger drill bit in your dremel tool,
Drilling in wood, metal, or plastic is easier with this drill guide. If you look up a tile drill guide on Amazon or Google, you'll find a plethora of results. Some drill bits come with guides that keep the bit wet while drilling. Diamond hole saws are better for sizes greater than 3/16".
The only option I could think of was to use centering pins. A 3" beam, seven inches thick, was drilled in the edge and came through very close to center. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Drill a total of 20 holes. Everything worked out well.
I suppose you could do that with the SAE version of the product, which accepts 1/4" drill bits, but not with the metric version.

When the product number on the box is compared to the one on the box, it's clear that the product that was shipped was the same as what Amazon listed. It isn't at all what is described on the website, which is disappointing.
So far, I've drilled about 50 3/8" and 1/2" holes. I'll say that if you don't want to damage the piece you're working on, you'll have to press down on the guide with some force at first. If "damaging" the work piece isn't a concern, there are two holes in which a screw or nail can be used to keep the guide in place. I drilled away while holding the guide in place, and with a little wiggle as fatigue allowed, I was able to drill these 50 holes perfectly straight. I can't speak to the guide system's longevity, but it has already paid for itself with plenty of drilling time remaining. It's something I'd buy again if the opportunity arose.
While it wasn't perfect, it was a huge help in accomplishing my goals. For floating shelves, I needed to drill 5 inch deep holes in reclaimed cedar. I was concerned about drilling straight holes and ensuring that each hole was aligned in order for the shelf to hang straight. Though there appears to be some play, I believe the guides did assist in keeping me angled straight. Nonetheless, it was of great assistance to me. Also, the feature that allows you to rotate the pins so that they are against the sides makes it very easy to ensure that you are drilling in the center. I was grateful just for that. Overall, I would recommend it, especially for the price, as it was extremely helpful in completing my shelf project.
I needed to drill perfectly centered holes on the edge of the 2x4 on which the shelf rested to attach the bottom of the chains to it. This tool was ideal for the task at hand. It includes two pins that allow you to perfectly align and center the hole without having to measure the midpoint. My drill bit and the bushings got along swimmingly. This tool was excellent value for money.
It's better than guessing, and the few things I used it on were more accurate than I'll ever get with a hand-held drill. I also have a Big Gator drill guide and purchased this for the clear base, which allows me to see the center lines more clearly. In either case, I would center punch the holes and set the drill into it, then use this as a guide to keep the material square. Any more precision necessitates the use of a drill press or mill.
This is exactly what I was looking for. With a little wiggle, the bushings fit snugly, and the bits can spin freely without losing precision. Because of the tolerances in the parts, the accuracy in my tests can be off by a few degrees. br>br>I needed this for the 1/2" bushing because my homemade rigs couldn't get the job done accurately enough. This is well worth the $20 investment, especially if you need to drill on edges where other rigs fail. br>br>Despite the product description stating that nails should be used, the package included pins for centering. I've only used it for a few test holes, so I can't comment on its durability. Everything appears to be in good working order, but if that changes, I'll update this review.
This kit is very useful for aligning your drill bit on the center of a cylinder, but it only works if you hold the guide down with one hand. It would be a much better product if there was a way to clamp the guide in place so you could drill with both hands free and avoid snapping drill bits or getting a weak start. br>br>My guide started to get pretty scratched up after a while, but I think that was because my helper kept dipping the drill bit in the dirt to cool it off quickly between drillings, and the dirt started to find its way into the guide where it accumulated.
Drilling perpendicular holes in flat surfaces such as spheres and cylinders is simple with this tool. It's similar to having a drill press that you can carry around with you. For standard drill sizes, the device employs a variety of bushings. These bushings can twist (turn) in the plastic body, causing wear. It would also be beneficial if the manufacturer could provide adjustable collets for drilling hole depth control.
