I'm not a big fan of big knockdown knives because it's all too easy to put too much pressure on one spot and ruin it. I also don't need the large one because I do a lot of patchwork and handyman work. I like the rubber end because it isn't as hard as a hard surface. To achieve the desired look, you can use as little or as much pressure as needed. Always test your work on a sample piece first to ensure that you're getting the desired result. Always dampen the rubber scrapper before using it, wipe it after every 1 to 3 runs, and keep it damp throughout. Finally, being as light as a feather can make a big difference. Best of luck to you. This product is fantastic!.
After a failed attempt with a large steel blade, the knock down knife worked perfectly. My Amazon order was unfortunately canceled, but I was able to locate a 6 inch version at a local store. The cancellations appear to be increasing in frequency. Having said that, the knife performed admirably; however, you should practice or begin your project in a hidden location. I also discovered that the knockdown texture can must be warm in order to properly spray. Before using it, I placed it in a hot garage or in the sun for a few minutes. The temperature in my basement storage was too cold at 70 degrees.
The tool worked well for my knockdown texture, but I only gave it three stars because the foam had a glued seam in the middle where two pieces of foam joined. I'm sure it doesn't come like this for everyone, but mine had the end of one foam piece and the start of the next during the manufacturing process. This is a problem with the quality of the product. Because the glued seam was harder than the rest of the soft foam edge, it scratched my knockdown texture when I first dragged it over it. I had to be extra cautious when dragging it in so that the seam didn't ruin the texture.
I had a problem with reapplying the knockdown texture when I was repairing my drywall. I couldn't seem to get the hang of it. Then I came across this knockdown knife and thought to myself, "What the hell, it's cheap enough. " I was surprised at how effective it was when I tried it. Without it, I would not have been able to complete the task.
This is excellent for matching texture in small repairs, such as patching holes. For texturing a larger area, such as an entire wall, you'd definitely need something bigger.
I was not able to make this work. It was a complete disaster when I tried to use it. It was covered in joint compound. I eventually settled on a puddy knife, which proved to be far more effective.
Remove the foam portion of the squeegee cape. It's just that it's a pain-in-the-neck situation. foam padding in the back.
It really works. Simply keep the foam moust in place for the best results.
