This is an essential tool if you are a rockhound, a prospector, or like to dig through rocks. In addition to this, there are also three A brick/rock hammer and a Gad (Estwing also has one of those which is great) are the absolute minimum you would need to successfully dig through the earth for whatever it is you are looking for. There are 3 picks over 2 years old that I have, all of them are robust picks. There is probably one that is over 10 years old, but they are quite dull from many, many digging Highly recommend estwing's products. They make excellent tools even now! My experience with this company has never disappointed me!.
What else can I say, it is a good hammer, but it is the handle that makes it so great. The picture is easy to understand. The strange thing is that I actually got a new Hammer because I thought I lost my other Orange handled Hammer out many miles from home. This makes it easier to spot when moving dirt, and sometimes only the handle is visible, which also makes it easier to spot when packing up On my last field trip with the club, I spotted some orange stuff (like 1 inch of it) on top of the fuel tank of the pickup, in between the bed and cab. I believe it must have fallen off the tool box and wedged itself between the two. Even though it took me about 20 minutes to retrieve it, it would have slipped from my hands if not for the orange handle showing through all of the mud.
5 lbs and length of 26. 2 inches are perfect for heavy work! There is no bending or breaking of the handle. Bright orange is one of my favorite colors! You can easily identify which tool is yours since it is harder to lose, and fewer people have them, so you are less likely to lose it! Remember! In a flat-ended tool, the flat end will break into pieces while the pointed end will dig into the earth and pry. Chipping rocks with the pointed end will both cause the tool to dull and make it hazardous to use. AVOID DOUBLE BREAKS! ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES WHEN BREACHING ROCKIES!.
The standard of the hotel is excellent. As long as you follow the instructions (don't smash this thing into hard rock, etc. ), it will work just fine. Although, it is the orange handle that makes it stand out and is the reason why I purchased it. Blue ones are much more difficult to see in the field! Anyone who spends a lot of time in the field will find that losing hammers is a pretty frequent experience, and it is also an expensive one.
Rock hammer of the highest order. My rock hammer was picked up during a trip to Arkansas to look for quartz. As an orange, I chose it because it seemed less common than the blue ones that have been out for years now. With the pick end, I can dig around in compact dirt and pull out rocks more easily. It is not a good idea to hit rocks with that end. This is not the right place for it. My expectations for this hammer are that it will last a very long time. Currently I am developing my Eastwing collection and I plan to acquire more pieces.
We are thoroughly satisfied with our purchase. It is solid in the hand, has an excellent pick on the back so that quick work can be accomplished on some removal projects, and feels like it will last a lifetime.
In contrast to others who may have received less than excellent products, the pick I received is at once aesthetically pleasing and functionally excellent. In this regard, I did buy from Estwing directly, so perhaps the company sells the lesser products.
Putting in more effort will cost more, but the results are worth it. Buying American products keeps American workers employed and ensures quality products are produced.
