I had to sharpen each of these chisels twice while carving three numbers three inches tall, but I also used them while they were dull for a while. Even though the metal has been hardened, it is not sufficiently hard to carve stone unless you sharpen it frequently. The plastic handles slide up and down the chisel sharts, which is a less serious issue. When aiming hammer blows, this isn't a big deal, but it is a little annoying. br>On the plus side, the bright orange color helps them stand out from the crowd.
This set is ideal for hounding on the rocks. I've taken them on seven different trips in search of topaz and other natural gems. They haven't broken or bent like some of the other sets I've used.
I had no trouble removing these full-size stones from my fireplace with these chisels, particularly the flat head one. There was no dulling, just hammering the concrete, and separating the concrete from the stone usually only took a few good strikes. A hammer weighing three pounds was used.
I ordered this set twice and only received one chisel each time. Thanks to Amazon, I was able to return both times. One of the chisels appeared to be of good quality. without ever putting it to the test I ended up having to order the two chisels separately, which cost me more money.
They work great; I know some reviewers complained about the handles slipping, but that's not a big deal; simply tap them back into place and you're good to go. I'm not sure how to rate the sharpness of the tips; they didn't break or dull, but they took a while to get started digging in.
After only a few uses, both of these had chipped quite a bit. However, I believe I was hitting them too hard with a hammer that was too heavy for these sized chisels (I was using a 5 lb. hammer; These chisels shouldn't be used on anything heavier than 2 lbs, in my opinion.
These are definitely built to last. I'm not being nice to these, and they're doing a fantastic job.
