Questions & Answers

Where can I find information about the steel used for the machete?

The diameter of the circumference was exactly 12 inches 3.1 cm) Blade Color Black Blade Finish Zinc Phosphate Blade Grind Full Flat Taper with Flat Bevel Edge Type Plain Hardness 50-65 A 55 HRC handle will be black with a fixed sheath type sold separately. The lock type will be a fixed lock with a black sheath type.

This machete is supposed to be full tang, is it not? What is the quality of the material?

This is true. This is a very sturdy product. As a fan of the Ontario Knife brand, I have owned a number of their products over the years and never been disappointed, including their machetes. There's no doubt in my mind that this blade deserves your attention.

In comparison with the tramontina machete from Brazil, what are the differences?

It is hard to choose one over the other. For cutting a little bit of all types of material, I find Transontina to be more versatile. It is reliable for heavy-duty chopping without having to sharpen frequently, although this Ontario may need to be stropped every now and then. Get a Tramontina if you have to clear a lot of stuff. The Ontario is the best choice for heavy duty cutting power.

Why is the model 6144 of this machete different from the model 6165?

6165 does not exist, as far as I know. This may be due to a mistake Because Ontario doesn't list it on their website, I typed it in. I have owned the 6144 for a couple of years and have been pleased with my purchase. Due to its blade flex, it does not deflect, and it keeps its edge for a long period of

Originally known as "Mil-" It is called "Spec Tools
5/5

". As I have reached the age of 68, I have tried out, bought, used, and even broken several cutting tools. All of these blades come in different price ranges, and offer a confusing range of choice with different types of steel, lengths and weights, shape and sharpness of the blade, handles, and full tang or partial tang design. For about 70 years, the province of Ontario has been producing these 18" machetes. The Machete is the one tool I would want to carry if I were only allowed to carry one of the cutting/chopping tools I've used over the years. If I could only carry one, this mil-spec machete would be it. An Ontario machete with a $22 price tag My personal experience with the 99 is that it is one of the most value-driven tools I have With its good edge retention and ease of sharpening, it is a good knife. Despite its well-balanced design, it can handle any task assigned to it with ease. In terms of my favorite, I absolutely love the Esee Lite Machete, but it costs around $81 . The Ontario machete is often referred to as a poor man's Esee Lite, but at a cost of only one quarter of the Esee, it represents an incredible value. I spray the handles of my tools with fluorescent orange because I often work in the Southwest Florida wetlands. It is so much easier to find a dropped object if it is A machete can be used to chop down large diameter trees, clear brush, cut through hanging vines, sharpen tent stakes, and slice firewood. It can also be used to fight off the creatures large and small, as well as a defensive weapon. It is both one of the best and at the same time reasonably priced. If you need a good cutting tool, this Ontario 18" Military is a great place to start.

Machete on the market that is superior to any other
5/5

Compared to other machetes on the market, this one is the most effective. I received it on time and in good shape. It was mailed to me, and almost 30 minutes later my land lady called me and asked me if I could remove two trees from her property. She asked if I had a chainsaw, so I said that I would see if there was anything The machete I got off of the UPS truck was perfect for cutting sweetgum trees out of her driveway that were 6 to 8 inches tall. You will find no cracks, chips, or warping. Despite its age, it still remains sharp as when it was first received. My experience with machetes has been mixed. There have been many companies, all of which coat more than this one and each of them failed when I started to use them. As soon as I started sweating, the handle became slick, but when I put on a leather glove, that issue was solved. Leaving behind the past will never be an option. There will always be one machete I look at above all others. There will be nothing to disappoint you. Due to the price, I was skeptical. Don't be like me. It will leave you amazed if you purchase it. This just goes to show that made in America is always the best choice.

I really like the design of this machete for hanging up or for use as a desk ornament
3/5

This is a beautiful looking machete you can hang up on the wall or keep in your showcase, never employing it in the field. Small branches less than 1 inch in diameter struck this piece of trash and caused it to break in half after 20 strikes.

It is a great blade, but the handle needs some attention
5/5

Martindale always used to be the one I used, but these ones are bit It has a softer steel and a longer blade that is thinner and cheaper. Martindale machetes are cheap, functional, and can easily be sharpened, and likely to be dulled as well. In the end, I went with an Ontario after reading reviews and taking my third Martindale. About 4 inches shorter but the same weight as the last knife, this one is about 4 inches shorter. The compact form factor gives you almost as much leverage and cutting power as the larger variety. thickness of the metal on the blade makes it highly resistant to snapping, but be prepared to put some effort into it if you're sharpening it with a bastard and smooth file out of the box. You will be able to hold the edge very well once you get one. There was not much of a chip in the blade since I just nick the T post. Getting used to the handle is the only thing that takes a bit of Holding the Martin Dale handles in the buttocks of your hand will make the knife hit harder, I have always held the handles in your knuckles. That's a little different, I'm not sure I like this. The blade of this knife is curved so it will allow for better control when cutting thick brush in tight spaces like fence lines. Also, it is made of stainless steel, so it should last longer cutting infertile I believe that if you were in a field of thin brush, the longer Martindale might be a little more beneficial than the shorter Martindale. If possible, place an order for one copy of each. In terms of thickness, weight and durability, the Ontario is without question superior. This week's update With a full season of ownership under my belt, I am happy to change my review from a four to a five. Although the handle shape is still not to my taste, I may try to sand it or carve a wooden handle rather than using this material. I would have given five stars if not for the blade and metal! To keep a Martindale or tramontina sharp, I would sharpen it before each and Having sharpened this blade by hand (which makes a longer lasting edge, IMO) it is a challenge to hone the nose without a vice or grinder, but since I don't use it, it is not an issue for me.
