I've used this knife for edging, cutting small roots, digging, and planting, and it's great. This knife can be used in a variety of ways. When I'm in the garden, I always pull it out. It's ideal for planting and weeding. It came in handy when I was laying out a new garden bed because it easily slices through grass. This tool has so many uses that I would recommend it to any serious gardener.
I've tried a variety of knives to cut sod when laying sod over the years, and this one outperforms them all. They're razor-sharp when they arrive, so proceed with caution! They become fairly dull after cutting a bit of sod, but the cutting action remains excellent. In the spring, I'll be laying a lot more sod, and I'm confident these will hold up.
Today, I used it to cut the grass around my father's army post. There is no bending involved in this deep cut, and it is very clean. It really works. I'm glad I have it now.
The scalloped edge is like butter when it comes to cutting through sod. On sod, both the serrated and scalloped edges work, but the scalloped edge is faster. Before this, I was cutting sod with a manual edger blade, and I really wish I had bought this knife sooner, because it would have saved me a lot of blisters! I was only laying a half pallet this time because I didn't have a good knife the first time and it took a long time to make simple cuts.
