Questions & Answers

When it comes to the blade, what is its length?

In all, the blade measures 18 inches, however it is sharpened to be 15 and 3/8 inches long.

A springtime springtime ritual includes cutting the cattails that grow along our lake. Is this going to be enough. ?

The reasons for not doing so are not clear to me. This tool has allowed me to cut through some pretty thick materials.

Is this really able to chip through thick As that is what I will be using ?

The odds are not in your favor. In areas where heavy brush is present, the OKC Kukri is shorter than a typical kukri in order for the blade to move with greater range. Besides clearing brush and vines, bamboo, saplings and processing wood for campfires, it's a great tool for clearing brush, vines, bamboo, and trees. The steel used for this product has a carbon content of 1095. In addition to the OKC Knife Company Machete and OKC Kukri, the US Military has a contract with OKC (Ontario Knife Company) for over 20 years. In order to resist abrasion, it is important to use 1095 carbon steel (the weakest option to choose from) while welding. A full tang blade made of D2 tooling steel is far superior to carbon steel (although it is a little more expensive too). In addition to being hard and prone to rust, carbon steel is also cold-treated and should also be oiled when not in use with a silicone multipurpose oil The first one is silicone oil (silicone repels moisture/water) or a one-to-one silicone massage oil A step-by-step cleaning/oiling solution by SafariLand (on Cleaning and lubricating their firearms with this product is common practice among US military Clean, Lube, and Protect) directly after sharpening and before storing your blade in a humidity free space (ideally indoors) for long term storage. Patinaing Birchwood Casey using oil The addition of Super Blue directly to uncoated carbon steel will provide great protection against antiseptic agents. (Clean the metal with 91% isopropyl alcohol and allow it to air Under 10 minutes at 150 degrees Fahrenheit will get you the best results for your steel With decreased angles, the Super Blue will achieve a better patina since it will penetrate the steel surface Any uneven patina areas should be blended in with light, circular scrubbing with a green, hard-bristled brush Use Scotch Bright pads and hot tap water for heavy duty cleaning. For a perfect patina, at least 2 or 3 coats of paint may be needed. It only takes approximately 60 minutes to fill out each application To neutralize the super blue chemical agent, rinse the metal with water seconds before cleaning it. Those who are strongest should go for Super Blue). The inevitable process of chipping will occur over time, depending on your line of cut. Make sure that your blade maintains a sharp edge. The dull edge causes the blade to wear more quickly, resulting in increased work on the you don't understand how to sharpen a machette with a bastard mill file, consider using a Smith's Axe and Machete Sharpener instead. This sharpener features carbide sharpening tips that renew the shape of damaged blades while sharpening them to extremely precise levels in under 5 to 10 seconds As directions pass, so does the speed. *BR> Be sure to swing your machete in a downwards and diagonal direction away from your body for the best use of your energy and for safety to prevent the blade from getting embedded in you. In case you are considering modifying your machete's cutting edge, keep these factors in mind The Scandinavian edge is ideal for shaving bark (lower part of the blade near handle) and for chopping wood, limbs, saplings, vines, brush, bamboo, etc. Intestinal spot of machete blade away from handle. I have no problems with mine
5/5

It works great for me!

Honestly, I am very pleased with my Ontario Knife Co 1 set. It is not particularly fancy, but it will get the job done. I'm immediately reminded of a lawnmower blade turned into a machete when it's placed straight out of the box. Here we are. My brand new machete was put to the test yesterday, slicing through small brush and cutting down a pine tree no bigger than two inches. There wasn't a split in the middle. A very good job was done with it. former Walmart cheapie couldn't even keep up with me- It is only a minute vine. That was a bad decision. it isn't as fancy as one of those Brazilian models that cost a lot of money. This item does not come with a leather case, and it has a plastic handle. Since I am military, it makes sense to me that when the military uses it, you might throw it away and get a new Due to the fact that I am not in the military or in government, my resources are limited, so after reading the reviews, this machete was pretty much a no-brainer. The first thing I did with my new axe and machete sharpener that arrived in the mail was to strike it with my Smith's 50582 axe and machete sharpener. I came in reasonably sharp as well. The honed edges are not sharpened. There was also a chop chop of an old pine tree as it was cut. As of now, I believe the text is more precise. I liked the Smith's sharpener. It was easy to use, fast, and effective. My Ontario Knife Lightweight Machete Sheath, Black arrived soon after, so I put the machete into it, all sharp and slicked Rust is a common problem with this type of metal. The one I have is shiny and I want it to stay that way. Well, that's cool. Whatever the case, black is as shiny as any other color. As a result of that purchase, I've gotten the machete/sharpener/case included in the offer at the bottom of the page. The case you describe is EXACTLY what I was looking for. When it's all tricked out, it's one wicked looking piece of machinery. That's what I like about There is nothing fancy about the handle, so I went looking for something else. The idea of sports tape appealed to me. However, I decided to go with the most manly of options-paracord. In the included photo, you'll be able to see it.
In the video below, you can see an example of how paracord is wrapped. It is simple, yet the result really makes the blade stand out while giving it a non-marking quality Grip that is easy to slip. This is a very manly haircut. It is in keeping with this military With the handywork you do, you won't be ashamed to show it off to your woodland mates. We guarantee it. That's what I mean. The thank you I will receive will be greatly appreciated.

I'm going to go over the pro and con of using this machete
5/5

I really like what you've done here. There is no end to the damage it can take. I'll tell you now what this is for those of you who don't know. You shouldn't sharpen a machete to use it to shave with, since they're meant to slash through brush and small branches. If the blade isn't too dull, you can use it. This will cause the edge to snap, bend, or fall off. This is the pro side. This weed eater is strong and can go through plants, bushes and branches with ease. Using it, I was even able to cut down a small tree. It is exceptionally durable and is able to hold up to harsh environments and treatments. Maintaining the engine will ensure it is in good shape for a long time. Ontario probably makes machetes for the military because this is a military item. 'Cons' I would recommend covering the handgrip with a sports grip tape or cord. Or you can wear gloves while using it. 'Cons' The handle can be a bit slippery, so I would recommend covering it with a sports grip tape or cord. It is also noted that the black finish to the blade takes to scratches easily, but that does not affect its performance in any way. You can either order or make a sheath for it, but it does not come with This is what I came up with.

OKC was the best manufacturer of blades I was able to find
5/5

It's only taken me 40 years to own two of the 18 inch OKC machetes, and I still own one that I used in the first place. The 12 and 22 inch machetes I own are made by OKC and I know without a doubt that they are built to last for the rest of my life. I've put them through hell and the only thing I can say about them is the handles are a bit too These have been the only machetes that have been able to stand up to what I've thrown at them. In addition to my machete as a practical tool, I live off the land part of the year and always keep one nearby for heavy cutting work. For me personally and for our troops, I want to thank OKC for making the best blade money can buy.

Machete for use in the military
5/5

When I had the Corona 18" saw, I used it a lot. The back machete (which I reviewed) was a complete turd. I threw it in the trash bin and bought this one in its place. There was only a $2 difference in cost between this professional machete and the Chinese-made machete My machete that I made from Corona was thrown It would have been better if I had There were complaints already by the earlier reviewers about the dullness of the machete. That wasn't the case with mine. The one I received was razor-sharp, no joke. By that I mean I cut a piece of paper in half with a single You can use it right away. For the one I received, Ontario Knife Company was the seller. A Fulfillment Center at Amazon fulfilled the order. It's not clear from other sellers in other parts of the country whether they are shipping unfinished tools - The one I received arrived razor sharp, however. Lots of people have complained about the handles not being comfortable or slipping off - You feel as if it might slip - In the course of use, the device slipped out of the hand. It seems to me that I understand what the problem is It is not the plastic handle scales that have caused the problem Most of us can't fit into them since they are too small. My surgical gloves are Medium, and my military dress gloves are 7 sizes. In other words, my hands are medium sized or average for a male American. Machetes usually have a handle that is too small to fit my hands comfortably. The boxy shape has been noted as being a bit squarish some reviewers have also noted this Although the grip is relatively large, it does not mean that it is hard or uncomfortable. A non-ergonomic shape simply means it's not comfortable. Using the grip, I found that it doesn't fill my hand at the heel of my palm, and that my hand wraps around the handle (at the hilt) to the point that my thumb is all the way over the first knuckle of my If you think of what the military needs to do it makes sense. It is necessary that these machetes be able to fit in the hands of soldiers with larger hands, since they will not be able to reduce the size of the handle in combat. The handle can be made thicker by wrapping some 550 cord (parachute cord) around it in the field if needed by soldiers with medium to large hands. A few reviewers have also complained that the scale rivets come loose over time, resulting in the handle falling apart. Once my handle starts falling apart, I will make some ergonomic and comfortable wooden scales that I can attach to the body There is a classic "Latin style" to this machete, as you can see in the photo. As a result, the tip of this machete is wider than the edge closest to the bolster (like a Parang style), and the weight of this machete is placed close to Despite this, this machete doesn't feel heavy, so I can (and you can, probably too) easily use it for hours on end without feeling tired. The overall design is fantastic, and the machete itself is a great workhorse! This is a very efficient and tough machete! It is a machete that will serve you well once you figure out how to make the handle more comfortable. This product is made from high carbon steel 1095 in the USA. know, 1095 is a composite steel with incredibly high strength and is nearly indestructible, even under extreme wear and tear. Spend your money on a lower quality machete instead of an expensive one that is likely to be more extravagant. This one is a must-have. It is an investment you will not regret. rifle has been a part of the US military's arsenal since the 1940s and has been used in a wide variety of battlefield Soldiers use this machete as part of their training True to its word. The following is an updated version Considering all the reviews written about this tool, I'm sure my little review won't influence anyone's decision as to whether to purchase this or not, but in case I can help someone else with their decision, I wanted to provide some additional details on how the handle on this thing works. The handle is a bit squarish, and I encountered a sore spot that kept getting worse and worse until it became a blister. It's fortunate that this blade's last few inches at the bolster are not sharpened. My index finger and thumb could be used as a grip while the rest of my hand was on the blade so I could choke up on it a little. All right, thanks for the Besides wrapping the handle in sports tape, I also secured it with Taping the handle to the three small lumps, I then rolled the lumps up again. Upon placing my hand on the handle, I experienced one lump on the back of the handle where my heel These 3 bumps were wrapped under the tape when I wrapped the handle in sports With that tool in hand, holding it seemed to be a lot easier In the end I had to choke up on the blade because it has such a square shape under your thumb that it tends to irritate it. Machetes with this kind of cutting power are Although that "Lowes Special" (the Corona machete) bounced off of twigs and vines, this machete was cutting right through dense wood Azalea branches in 1 stroke (or 2 strokes if the branches gave way when struck). This is truly the best buy I've ever made! This blade is sharp and there is no nonsense on it, regardless of its goofy handle.
