The handle on my steel edger broke after I bought it on Amazon. The edger was eventually replaced by Fiskars. I finally got a new edger, though it took a while.
Steel is used throughout the plate. I didn't have to try to sharpen the edge because it was already sharp. I haven't needed to do so yet. The edger is fine; I use it to edge along our brick pathway, and it has proven to be extremely useful.

Edging isn't easy, and this tool didn't make it any easier. It did the job, but I had to put a lot of effort into getting it to cut. For the record, I'm 5'10" and 130 pounds, so I don't have much rear-end strength. lol, power In the end, if you're a skinny lady, this might not be the best option for you. My 210-pound husband had no problems, but he wasn't exactly singing as he worked. I forced him to finish for me and then fed him a steak dinner as a reward. 😉.
That's why I gave it two stars: it's lightweight and simple to use. When I used it for the second time, I snapped the handle off. I'm not sure why they didn't make the handles out of metal and wrap them in rubber. It astounds me. I really like Fiskars products, but they really let me down with these.
I was removing the plastic wrapping when the handle broke off.
I was extremely disappointed. I was ecstatic to find an edger with a flat, curved blade because none of the stores in my area carried one. I was also pleased to see that it was made by Fiskars, as that is a brand I trust and have a number of other gardening tools from them that I enjoy. When it arrived, I was pleased, and I used it on a small project, but it broke where the handle meets the blade. It's tubular metal rather than solid metal, and you'd think that would be the place to reinforce it, but it's not well made. I'm going back to get my money back. Very let down. The only reason I gave it two stars is because it did a good job cutting my line, but the blade separated from the handle, so I had to finish with a regular shovel.
Because of the covid19 delays, it took over a month to arrive. I finally got the edger today, and within 10 minutes of using it, the cheap plastic handle broke. I was also using it in very soft soil and pushing it into the ground with my foot. Please, Fiskars engineers, create a metal handle for these faulty products.

When I first moved in, I had my lawn professionally mowed and edged, and I began using this in conjunction with the Fiskars Reel Mower, which can be found here: .
The product is far too dull to be useful for edging lawns as intended. It barely managed to pierce the ground on the first try. Listen to all of the other reviews that say it's too boring. This isn't a fabrication. I hate giving one star reviews, but this item is deserving of one because its primary function as an edging tool is impossible to fulfill due to its poorly constructed design.
