Questions & Answers

This shovel is meant to be used to dig up the roots of an old climber rose bush. Will this work?

Its wide flange makes it easier to cut through the roots and compacted earth on top of extremely hard ground, making it excellent for digging in hard ground. It is heavier than most shovels and more effective at digging through roots and compacted earth than many shovels. The ground needs to be soaked before you start using the tool, sometimes that extra effort is hard to avoid. The root system in my yard was very fine, hard, and I could not even use this shovel to cut through them, I had to use a hatchet and limb cutter to get down to the ground first, then I could use the shovel. Root Slayer is a great product, and I would buy another if I needed one.

In order to cut bamboo roots with a shovel, what tool should I use?

I am glad you asked this question, Allan. If you plan to remove bamboo, then you will need a shovel like the one you are considering. If you use these to pry, you will likely damage the handle or blade. Because they are designed for cutting, please do not use them for prying. Exactly why does this have a warning about Prop 65?

Fiberglass is probably the reason behind the handle's durability. In addition, it is required to put a Prop 65 warning on almost everything.

Do you know if this is made in the United States?

I find it a good alternative to my straight edge spade
4/5

The straight edge garden spade I have been using for edging for many years isn't too much better than this garden tool, so I purchased it. As well as the Radius hand trowel I purchased previously and the Radius transplanter, I am really pleased with its quality and functionality. XL model is about 7" shorter than my spade, but I am 5'-5", therefore the longer height works well for me. The height is 10 inches. Moreover, it is somewhat heavier than my spade and has a nice solid feel to it. It is actually easier to use since it is heavier (plus it has a sharper edge) since I do not have to use as much force to penetrate the ground. As you edge and move outwards into new soil, the edger cuts through the soil and grass with a sharp edge. The mower does a poor job of cutting the grass along the full width and length of the edger when you want to maintain the existing edge. The mower did have a good impact on cultivating soil edges, but I found that I had to cut the grass multiple times to reach the very.

It's engineered to be like a battle tank, but with a better The Root Slayer belongs to a class of its own among the many shovels I've owned in the past
5/5

Now that I've finally found the shovel I've been looking for for 20 years, I can start digging again! That's what you get if you want badass. The first thing that strikes you is how heavy it is. It is heavy with men. This head and neck are made of solid steel, so they are "just right heavy". A single inch root is cut like butter by it. My strength comes from its length, which allows me to stand upright and deliver a powerful blow to any root that I come across. My digging tool has teeth on the edge that help to clear small roots. I can dig a hole in half the time with its weight. And don't fear bending your neck to pry up a large rock - it's not like you're going to fall down. It will be the rock that breaks before the Root Slayer. A company that knows the meaning of quality and value deserves a pat on the back. This is the best root slayer you can buy. Thanks so much!.

People listen when a gardener over the age of 87 speaks up
5/5

When I dropped by my friend's house one day, the shovels were lying on her table. This friend will be 87 in a few months and has a 2 acre "park" on her land. Since I garden myself, I was interested in learning more about them since they looked very attractive. After she told me about them, I went home and ordered one. My second is on its way to me now. told everyone about it at the 4th of July celebration, and she was truly shocked by what she heard. Having said it was one of the best tools she'd ever used. A gardener of that age should know better than to discount something that she claims is the best tool she's ever had. It's good to see someone who knows what they're There are a lot of people in our group that went to Amazon and bought one of her recommendations. Root Slayer shovel marketing is being handled by Barbara in a fantastic way!.

I thought the design was good, but it was too flimsy
3/5

I've bought four products from the Rootslayer line, and I especially enjoy the O-Healing Essence. It is both a large and a shaped Rootslayer Despite being small, it needed the long blade & the long handle This handle is long and comfortable. I like the design, and I think it's unique It is very difficult to cut deep roots with the extra long blade, both the blade and rod are weak, and both are too flimsy A flexible person. I was careful, but the blade broke within two months despite all my efforts. One to two times per week, I use it. Would anyone be able to recommend a good source to get a replacement under warranty? It would be great if the manufacturer updated the thickness & anti-friction properties The shovel is highly durable. By using the same amount of fiberglass but a thicker rod at the base and a thinner rod at the top, they can build a stronger rod. If the revisions were beefed up, I'd be willing to pay extra for them.

It is a great tool with 16 inches of depth, but its head cracked in eight months
3/5

I am in love with There are 16" in length on the XL head. The blade effortlessly slices through soil with small roots and gives you a fighting chance against larger roots when it is used around the yard. It's a terrible shame, but I cracked my head today while trenching. The lifetime warranty now needs to be tested to determine its responsiveness and quality.

Is good for the job! To dig six feet, I needed to dig In Jacksonville, FL, you can find horizontal-drilled 18" deep sono-tube holes for deck footings, you can drill 16" deep holes for concrete piers, etc
5/5

This shovel is able to cut straight through soil and through the small roots everywhere under the surface dirt due to the sandy clay soil. The roots are between two and three inches thick under the surface dirt. A jump on top of it helped me cut through everything in my way where it wasn't able to do so on its own. Even though it costs a bit more than renting a post hole digger, I can use this whenever I need to, and I will have more opportunities to use it. The product is excellent, with solid construction and a good balance between lifting weight and puncture resistance.

The majority of the time, it works fine
3/5

The system for the most part works fine in our tree nursery, but now and then we have trouble digging out Saw Tooth Oaks. We caught the shovel head on the ground and it snapped. As a whole, I think it is a decent tool and it is well worth the purchase price.

The new man in your life that you love This Radius Garden Root Slayer Drain Spade XL is a great tool
5/5

It is awesome that Radius Garden 22911 Root Slayer Drain Spade XL exists. The drill has enabled me to remove roots from a wooden fence line and create a slot to install a rhizome barrier to keep the native scrub oak from growing into my yard. With the really large roots my sawsall did a good job, but with the smaller roots the size of carrots it took them with ease. My experience with it is finding irrigation tubing that has been buried. In the past, I have used it to dig around fence posts to remove a fence section. Sod and dirt are cut more easily with this tool than with a This is a great tool that I found by chance.
